Am I the only one who is upset about Resident Evil 5?

I recently watched a trailer from the TGS in 2008 (the most recent trailer on x-box live) and Wesker made some comment like "The last time we met was in the Spencer Estate, wasn't it?" Now... unless they returned to a nuked raccoon city, then Capcom has decided to entirely erase Resident Evil: CV from the continuity, which is total fucking balls.

Why the fuck would you even do that?! Seriously. CV was hardly my favorite RE, in fact it might've been my least favorite, but it had some SOLID moments with Chris and Wesker, and the concept of an "evil" Steve Burnside seemed cool too. Man, fuck retcons this late in the game.

EDIT: Apparently I'm not the only person in the Internet who thinks this, but some people pointed out it MAY be the chick he's talking to, or somebody who isn't Chris. Then again... that's a really shitty thing to put in a trailer that FEATURES Chris Redfield. Hell, now that I can't EXACTLY remember who was all in the scene or if they showed who he was talking to, maybe it's Barry! :o

I hope Barry returns in all of his cheesy dialogue glory.

"Just take-a-look-at-THIS!"

"Blood? I hope it's not chris's blood"

"I have THIS!"

Isn't everyone jumping the gun a bit, I mean there's the other big issue about RE5 (the death) and now this....I'd say maybe we should wait until we see what happens in the game. Trailers usually take things out of context in the game/movie. We don't know who he's talking to, he could be talking to Rebecca for all we know.

I know Capcom has gotten the RE storyline screwy but I would doubt they choose to now retcon Code Veronica. If that happens, then yeah Capcom is full of idiots, but I'll wait until we get more info.

I am glad they didnt make it so you could run while shooting, you have never been able to run and shoot in a RE game, why start now, I mean they have to at least try to keep SOME stuff about the game feeling like RE instead of just some generic shooter with RE characters.

but anyway yea, link the reason i was coming here right now was to post and ask what the fuck kind of drugs they were smoking at capcom and why they would have wesker make that comment, either they forgot about CV or recinded it from the timeline .

I am hoping it is a story driven thing though, something along the lines of that wasnt the real wesker it was a clone / robot / alien / acid flashback , something , so then they can legitimatly say the last time they met was at the spencer mansion - but i doubt it.

another posibility is that it was a mistake, and that footage was taken from an old build and it has since been fixxed?

maybe hes not talking to chris, who knows just gotta wait and see.

all I know is I can not wait for this game to come out, I am foaming at the mouth, I just really hope it retains at least some of the RE feeling, hopefuly this stays about where RE4 was and doesnt move the game any further from the RE roots.

PS you guys know me, ive been beating the bring barry back drum as long as I can remember ( look up my where the hell is barry thread ), give him his own game, his own CGI movie, a page in the instruction book , ANYTHING - with RE5 looking like its gonna be the best selling game of the year and being a ps3 / 360 only title, why not make a game staring barry thats a wii exclusive that runs on the RE4 wii engine .

Barry's voice acting was so bad that they had to retcon him out of existence. :O

You're not alone. I hate how Barry gets so overlooked. Back when NECA put out the Anniversary figures I was hoping to see Barry and Wesker in series 1.... Nothing... Then series 2 rolls around and Barry and Wesker were the most requested figures by fans and Capcom said no to both of those and I was denied again and instead treated to even more zombies. Meh. Sorry for the tangent.

Well if there was some sort of circle strafing system while shooting, do you know how easy the game would be. There would be no real challenge and no suspense.

Btw guys.

PROTIP: You always had to stop and fire in Resident Evil. This isn't Gears of Evil. STFU AND STOP RUINING MY FRANCHISE!

I don't mind it. Though I think people are complaining because Dead space allowed you to move and fire.

While on that note so did Outbreak File #2

Yes I know, Still I would prefer if they gave the option of at least backpeddling while firing. It feels clunky when you have to run backwards and then stop turn fire, run back and repeat. Give it an option to turn it on or off, for you guys that want the clunky controls.

Guess the people who complain about the shooting have never played RE4. It had the same controls basically.

Thats the thing, It had the same controls then, and that ways how many years ago? They need to at least add backpeddling, and I'll be happy. Some games need to evolve with time. Not just stay with clunky controls. I played the demo, and it felt very restrictive in movement.

haha gears of evil, im so stealing that phrase.

honestly as amazing as RE4 was gameplay wise, and it was amazing, I wouldnt if RE had kept those "tank" controlls everyone seems to bitch about, I really liked the controlls in the original games, but i can also see why they would want to update it to where it is in 4, but lets leave it there, the fact you can strafe now is almost enough to make me shoot blood from my eyeballs hopefuly that is the last "enhancement" they make to it.

I just downloaded the demo earlier today, and I couldn't believe how much I didn't like it. Worrying about Shiva was a pain in the ass, and she sucked. The combat for some reason doesn't feel as fluid as RE4 on the PS2 or Gamecube and... I don't know. I never minded the controls be it RE1 or RE4, it's just the story/characters/everything I loved about the series seems messed up now. I also don't like how ammo is everywhere since RE4, along with grenades. Part of what made the older games scary is knowing when to pick your fights, and sometimes not having enough pepper to bring down a big boss. As a long time fan of the series I'm just rather disappointed. And why the hell do these "zombies" have the same weapons as the ones in RE4, including the chainsaw, which is getting a bit cliche? On a side note, if I'm in Africa, why is it that most of the time 70% of the zombies I fight are Caucasian? XD

I also agree with how dumb ignoring Code Veronica is, that was one of my favorites in the series, definitely in the top 3. I guess I'm glad I don't have to spend $90 on another collectors edition, but I'm rather disillusioned that the game isn't as grand as I was hoping.

Ok after playing the demo solo and online I don't know how to feel anymore about RE5. On the one hand it was a lot of fun playing with a friend because no matter how good an AI can be, nothing beats another person who is smart enough to not get in your way and give you a heads up on what's behind you. On the other though it doesn't "feel" like Resident Evil anymore.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person here who has had a routine when it comes to Resident Evil and mine was always at night with the lights off and the volume up. I'd zone out the outside world while playing and explore every little detail. Now with one other person there it doesn't have that same feeling which is going to be a bit of a rough transition.

The demo doesn't really give you the kind of environment to really get a good handle on how the AI works because everything is really hectic. I found myself too busy trying to learn the new controls, mind my surroundings and figure out the new inventory system that I kept losing track of what Sheva was doing.

Lastly I just want to point out the one weird problem I kept having. I just beat Dead Space a few weeks ago and while playing the demo I kept wanting to play it like Dead Space; mostly because of the new inventory system. I really like the way items are mapped to the d-pad but I'm not digging opening the window because, like Dead Space, the gameplay does not stop but you can't do anything else while its open. I also kept wanting to aim and walk like in Dead Space which is frustrating that I had come so accustomed to it. I'm not complaining about the choice of the inability, just that if you're coming off Dead Space prepare for something different.

Honestly, the demo has made me consider skipping this game entirely. That or at least wait until it drops in price.
'tis not like I don't have enough expenses with Street Fighter IV and the Mad Catz arcade stick anyhow.
