Wasn't Marvel's the one that came out recently in a semi-expensive book and talked about a universe where superheroes never existed or didn't work out right? It was permeated with black humor and irony and such. Like Wolverine having a bone disease.

Nope. This came out around '94.
Marvel's starts out during the "birth" of Marvel's super heroes (original Human Torch, Namor, Captain America, etc) and ends around the time of Gwen Stacy's death. It gives us a view of a bunch of different Marvel stories through the eyes of everyday people. Showing people fearing them, then accepting them, praising them, turning on them, hating them (mutants in particular) etc, etc.
It all centers around this photographer who ends up writing a book about the "Marvels" (what he calls the super heroes).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvels

It's pretty cool. You should check it out.

Ah, I'm thinking of something else with "Marvels" in the title that came out 4 or so months ago.

Getting:
Azrael Deaths Dark Knight #2 (of 3)(Batman Battle For The Cowl Tie-In), $2.99
Batman Battle For The Cowl Arkham Asylum #1 (One Shot), $2.99
Detective Comics #853 (Andy Kubert Regular Cover)(Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader? Part 2), $3.99
Amazing Spider-Man #592 (Joe Quesada Regular Cover), $2.99
Daredevil #118 (Marko Djurdjevic Regular Cover), $2.99
Dark Reign Elektra #2 (of 5), $3.99
New Avengers #52 (Billy Tan Regular Cover)(Dark Reign Tie-In), $3.99
Secret Invasion Chronicles #2 (of 9), $5.99

Maybe:

Outsiders #17, $2.99 - I skipped #16, I'll probably continue skipping this and pick it up in TPB or just "read it somehow".

Resident Evil #2 (of 6), $3.99 - #1 sort of sucked. I'll skim through #2 and see if it's worth giving a shit about.

Hmm, I'm not sure what that would be. Sounds interesting though (Wolverine with a bone disease? XD ).

It was like intense irony. It basically consisted of this story with a reporter (who had Cancer I believe) talking about a world that could have existed but never did. Like, think of EVERY "hero origin" story. Now think, instead of what happened in comics, what would happen in the "real world" would happen.

Like, The Human Torch got his powers, but he has to be kept in a containment unit and is in constant agony because he's on fire 24/7.

You mean really sucked right? I can think of five things I could get with 4 bucks that are better than that comic:

- Double Cheeseburger from McDonalds
- A case of Dr.Pepper
- Any movie on VHS
- A Snickers bar
- An issue of Captain America

I rest my case.

It was 4 bucks, and that DID suck, but it MIGHT be going somewhere, and so I'll browse through the second issue, see if any notable characters turn up. Although I suspect it's a generally non-canon piece of poo like the rest of the RE comics were.

I don't think I've read anything above mediocre from them.

Just make sure you get the more recent stuff (2006 onwards). Anything before that and I can't guarantee its good (mainly cause I haven't read it. ;-)

Then you should be fine. I also failed myself by quoting when I meant to edit my post. Oh well. :rabbid:

Over the past few months they've been putting out X-Men Origins: *character name here* books that focus on a specific characters beginnings. I know they've done Colossus, Jean Grey and Sabretooth so far (can't remember if they've done any others yet).
They aren't movie related in case you were wondering about that.

I don't know what the hell they're going to do for Wolverine though since we already had his beginnings shown in his own mini series. Maybe they'll just condense his whole history? Who knows.

They also did Beast. They're actually REALLY good One-Shots.

PS. I am sick and fucking tired of the word "Origins" especially when it doesn't actually really seem to focus on "past" events.
