ryu has been an icon since well the 2nd Street Fighter game. now, how do you really pronounce that 3 letter name?

rhi-yu like ryu hayabusa or... rha-yu like how they pronounced it in the american cartoon and...Street Fighter movie (first one) and handsome tom's dog * i think *

I used to say Rha-yu, but now I say Rhi-yu since that's how it's said in Japanese.

Ho ho ho, silly americans who can't pronounce Y as a vowel on it's own. :-)

Technically, I don't think it's "Rai" or "Ree". Closest one would be Ree-yu, though.

Man, how about that Ninja GAY-DEN game or that Secret of MAN-NAH game? Those are pretty sweet.

Everyone is wrong. This comes from Ryo Anaraku who I went to highschool with for a year. He was an international student from Japan.

"Like my name you do not say the R as R. You say it as D. So its like D sound then Yo for my name. For Ryu from Street Fighter it is D sound then U."

If you listen to the announcer on SFIV you will hear him say "Ryu (sound like 'Deu') Wins!".

Mission Completed.

Oooh.
So that explains why everyone in Shenmue kept calling me "Dio."

But it IS written as "Ryu" in Japanese, and I've heard it said as "Ryu" in the japanese language. It means "Dragon".

i liked where the thread headed, if you watch street fighter alpha, alpha origins and II v anime, like what AKADave said they go "rhi-yu" or "ree-you". the "d" sounding first letter does happen occasionally however we aren't japanese are we?

Chung-Lee (that being your wife) is a whore (i.e. She willingly accept multiple penises in exchange for money. Sometimes just for the sheer love of cock.)

You don't have the balls. Though from what I've heard Chung-Lee has a spare set going.
