Really love the community interaction over the last few weeks on The Prototype and I am glad that I am seeing the show grow and mature.

I just want to express my sincere thanks to every sidekick & Henchmen that has taken the time to call in,write and listen to our little show here.
It's the interaction that make it worth while and make the show even better.

Keep those topic suggestions coming!

After listening to Sessler's Soapbox, here's an idea for a topic.

Fanboys on how stupid it has gotten from the fun times of Sega vs Nintendo to just the flat out flame wars w/ 360 vs PS3 that continues today on different message boards. :verymad:

After hearing all my friends who own a Wii say they played it for about a month and haven't touched it or have sold it so after hearing all this it got me thinking to my topic...

The possible demise of the Nintendo franchise due to gimmicky gameplay and a lack of "gamer" focused games. Will it stay afloat or will it burn in flames with the likes of Sega and Atari?

Meh, that topic is so beaten into the ground though. Anywho, the answer to this debate is simply, there ARE core games out there, but people are way too picky about what they consider to be a core game, even the games for gamers are essentially still accessible for casuals and somehow with Nintendo it's always been "If you don't have horribly violent games and FPS titles then you don't have any good titles at all." But, totally a different debate we can have in the Nintendo section. :)

I this will be our NEXT WEEK's topic :)

Here's an old topic that had me really heated up.

The inclusion of random franchise characters in games in order to increase the sales.

Examples:

Darth Vader and Yoda in SC4
Link, Heihachi, and Spawn in SC3
Master Chief/Spartans in DOA4
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

I'm totally cool with cameos like... Megaman in a Capcom fighting game IE. Onimusha Warriors or whatever it was, but... Star Wars has nothing to do with Soul Calibur, and while it's cool it also seems to reek of "selling out for big money from fanboys".

I think it could be a decent topic if delved into further, additionally, do the inclusion of these characters upset the canon of these games? I know fighting games aren't known for their storylines, but it still seems to hurt what little story they have left.

You can also discuss the GOOD cameos/appearances like when Cody from Final Fight had his storyline continued via Street Fighter 3.

What will the next set of awesome game franchises be?

Graphics VS Gameplay Do games need just have amazing graphics to be good regardless of gameplay (Lair) or does it need great gameplay regardless of how it looks. (Deus Ex)

Remaking old classics. have devepers ran out of good ideas for new IP's so they just remake the best games because of an already established fanbase?

Just out of curiosity: Where do Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Capcom vs SNK 2 fall for you? Because I do agree with you that Vader and Yoda as cameos made absolutely no sense (why a light saber isn't an instant kill is beyond logic); but I thought that MK vs DC was done very much in the vein of Marvel vs Capcom 2 (just not as good).

Y'know what. Marvel vs. Capcom made more sense than MK vs. DC, primarily because Midway doesn't have a pile of franchises to pull characters from for a fighting game. Sure there was Street Fighter vs. Marvel Heroes or whatever, but... actually, I thought that game was hokey too.

For some reason Marvel vs. Capcom just FEELS right compared to all these other games. One reason would be, as I said, it's a PILE of characters from one company vs. another company, not a specific game vs. another specific game. I think one big thing might be because they are 2D games where as all the games I have beefs with are 3D games.

How can franchises compete when people idlise a certain game in it's genre as the staple. E.g. GTA franchise being the best and games like Saints Row considered as a clone when it is just as good a game. (Personally I love Saint's 2 more than GTAIV)

Game Companies absorbing the little companies. An example is likely EA and Activision-Blizzard (I think that's right...) who are absorbing other companies to make them bigger. Does this method mean the companies lose there heart and just work for the big companies and make games just to make more money or can they still produce amazing games that are made by people who care about it and want to make it perfect in there eyes or just make sure it's out in time for holidays when people will buy more so the company makes some money.

THIS WEEK"S topic is

"Sequels to games and what happens with them"

Do they evolve, or grow stale and or simply sell out?

First off great work guys :-D The prototype is my favorite podcast of all time!!!

Anyways though I have been waiting for Resident Evil 5 ever since I saw the first trailer where people didn't even know the guy was Chris Redfield. So my suggestion is games that you waited for what seemed like forever!

I kind of had the same experience back when I was obsessed with Mortal Kombat and first heard about Armageddon. I was on the midway fourms and it was released date, and I pre ordered the special edition.....online.....so everyone's was making a new topic saying "I GOT IT, I GOT ARMAGEDDON" While I had to wait another week to get it in the mail. The only bad thing was once I beat through the conquest mode and got everything in the krypt (which took a day), I've been done with it. I was really disapointed because Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance and Deception had so much replay value with the krypt (if you had patience that is)

Keep up the great work-The show is amazing

I really like this topic... because sequels will ALWAYS come out... game company's are always going to want to capitalize on popular game titles... imo look at the first three Mario's and Sonic's all three games were great games, have huge replay value, and were steps in a positive direction for the franchises... then you get the Madden's which pump out titles every year and aren't THAT much better... and (i know ima get hell for this) the difference between Halo and Halo 3 is not that substantial enough to generate as much hype as was given to Halo 3... interested in what Tom and Captain Awesome has to say...

I recently played Halo 3 and thought it was amazing, not because it's halo but simply because it was such a fun game to waste time on when I was bored, this is the same when I played Halo combat evolved albeit that was on PC and not a 360 (At least with the 360 I can be in bed while I play it. :-D )

Some suggestions I also have are... (I keep thinking of topics you guys should do) :-)

Talk about Shigeru Miyamoto, people consider him to be a rock god of gaming and one of it's greatest influences, if not just him why not talk about the greatest game creators in gaming? IGN recently did a top 100 so you could grab the top 10 of them and talk about them. :-) (Of course giving them a shout out too)

Video Game Music - talk about the songs that define a franchise or make you cry or get goosebumps every time you hear it.

I remember hearing something about Nicole in Dead or Alive, about how Team Ninja Wanted Master Chief to appear in it, but Bungie didnt want to, as they didnt want to effect the story cannon of Halo, so they Created Nicole as a way to get into the game for Team Ninja. She got lost in an dimensional Warp, when traveling through lightspeed, which actually went into more details about the disappearing of Crew Members in Lightspeed, and how they would have to pull out of it instantly. It was a Rare occasion but it has happened in the halo universe. So to tribute Team ninja for using a Spartan in their game, Bungie Created the Hayabusa armor for halo 3. :D

correction; Link and the others were in SC2.

talking about cameos and crossovers KH is one of the good ones, totally random and unexpected. throw in Dissidia in there and you get a fanboy's dream thus adding up to your fighting game theory.

It's sounds like from how you dislike random, cameos...you're not a Smash Bros. fan :|

Love smash brothers, but that's because everything is part of the same franchise/company. Kinda like a Capcom vs. Marvel title, sure they're two different companies, but it's not like you're taking some random character who has no business in your fantasy setting and tossing them in there to sell units, like Yoda.
