The death of print magazines for gaming. With EGM joining the ranks of the great Computer Gaming World/Games For Windows, largely due to the internet's speed of delivering news over print.

Indipendent game companies.

With the increasing number of really good downloadable games on XBLA, it's propably time to discuss this almost forgotten genre. I mean, If it wasn't for these companies we wouldn't have games like Braid. And many people put Braid in their "best games of the year" list and this is all without any advertising or a million dollar budget.

Games and consoles that were scrapped and never saw the light of day, this can also include games that felt unfinished or that could have been much more.

Few examples:

Sega Neptune
Star Fox 2
Sonic X-treme
Halo DS (may have been a golden eye mod)
Resident Evil 2 port for GBA
Megaman Mania GBA

You get the Idea. :-)

The fall of Sega, having a great system like the genesis now a minor company and no consoles, what happened?

You could also do the rise of Sony or Microsoft in the console industry.

im still sticking to the topic of Music, how old consoles had limited sound cards, but still produced classic works, and how current gens have technology at their fingertips to produce just as great works. Also about how music can greatly enhance the quality of a game.

To further elaborate on this, it'd be nice to hear about certain songs that make you think about VERY specific areas/parts in a game or storyline.

Example:

Frog's Theme ALWAYS reminds me of when he splits that mountain in half with the Masamune. It's just amazing.

lots of other great examples, like Aeris's theme, and how it was enough to poke at the heartstrings when she gets stabbed.
