This was already posted on another site show i thought to get it started here as well, anyway...

Job: Bar Tender (Bar Risa/Jongleurs Comedy Club)

Advantages: Free beer at the end of each night, get lots of hot girls talking to you and giving you there mobile numbers, people i work with are great fun, pays for my driving lessons and video games, get to see and meet some great stand-up comedians. (Sean Collins is a great example)

Disadvantages: Oh boy, here goes.
Hours are a nightmare, working untill 6am in the morning is really awful.

Customers can be such arseholes, there attitude really stinks, some don't even have to decency to say Hello to you when you great them, they just give there order and then don't even say thank you.

When i run out food or drink at the Comedy club and when at the table i ask for example "Who has the Pint of Budwieser" sometimes they just give you a misereble look and just point to a spot on the table where they want it. GOD I WANNA SMASH THERE FACE IN WITH SOMETHING.

Speaking of which, if theres a big party of 30 or so people in one group and they have all orderd food, you take it to there table and call out to them who was ordered what, getting a responce back from any of them is like saying the XBOX 360 is a symbol of reliabillity, they all sit there like gormless idiots and can't make up there god dam mind.

Also, when serving at the bar, you have taken someones order, and have put it through the till and made there drink i have to ask for payment, but alot of the time i see the chatting to there freinds, completely oblivious to the fact i have everything ready for them, i really wanna grab an empty bottle and smash it over there head.

And on Friday or Saturday nights, i can garantee ill get at least 10 different groups of people who will try to get something for nothing. When i have finnished someones order and then saying i have left something out of there order, err, no i didn't, i remember exactly what you asked for and did it, don't fucking add more to it after the transaction has been completed.
Girls usually say "Its my freinds birthday, can we get any free drinks" Now i don't like to say no to a hot girl, but...

FU*K RIGHT OFF

Lately, if i ever get asked that by a group of hot girls ill always follow up with "If i give you free drinks, WHATS IN IT FOR ME?"

And don't get me started on the mess the customers leave after we close.
Broken glass and empty bottles litter the dance floor with the occasional puddle of sick and drops of blood from the enevitable fight, and since the venue i work at has 7 rooms with dance floors, there is a massive mess left behind. And in the womens bathroom, there is a massive amount of paper towels all over the floor.

And to cap it all, the wages and benefits are utter shit.
Bar Risa recently won 2 awards for best bar on Birminghams Broad St, and best bar in the town of Birmingham itself, and what did the staff get in return for all our hard work?

SWEET FU*K ALL

I have been doing some research and it turns out, no matter how many times the managers say to me that i work for the best bar on Borad St, we get the least pay, every other bar in that St and in the whole of the Birmingham city centre gets more wages and i hear Weatherspoons/Lloyds bar get staff benefits at the end of each month.

Getting payed £4.85 an hour to be dealing with rude, stupid, moronic arsehole customers, working until stupid hour in the morning cleaning up a massive amount of broken glass, empty bottles and puke and seeing every single rival bars staff get payed more has pissed me off to the point where i spend the one day i have off (Yes just one fucking day) searching for another job to get me out of the nightmare i am at now.

I Preferably want to work at GAME or GameStation.

Anyway thats me, what about you?

I'm actually at work right now.

I'm a part-time proof operator for Bank Atlantic, bank located only in Florida. I basically put numbers from checks in boxes all day in a computer system.

Pros - Have my own desk, Internet access, easiest job in the world, I get paid way more than my old job (Burger King) to do less work, allowed to use Ipod, I sit all day, and take breaks when I want. I'm scheduled to do 12-7 from Mon-Wed, and Friday, so I get the night to myself, and if I want some more hours, I'm allowed to stay for as long as I want.

Cons - It's extremely boring if there's no one around to talk to. I also work every Sunday morning, from 7-when we finish, so my Saturday night is shot.

Definitely the best job a 19-year old can have right now.

Job: Content Producer for a learning/entertainment software company

What I do: We created a program that aids people in english comprehension, or aids teachers teach english, call centres train their agents in how to speak proper english. What this software does is take written text, say like a newspaper article, and has a human voice read it out loud to the listener. While the article is being read to them a cursor follows each word being read allowing the listener to follow what word is being read as well as learn the proper pronounciation for the word. We have customers in India, China, Korea as well as the US and Mexico!

What I do is create/edit content that's created by our partners in China, Korea etc. make sure they're written in proper english (HUGE issue that drives me nuts), outsource the units for narration. Once their narrated I check them to make sure that everything is said properly, there are no technical or sound issues and then send them off to the partner to distrubute them to the consumer. I also write these learning units for our platform. My favorite was the history of videogames. I made a brief timeline of system/game history!

Pros: Great job, benefits, the new version of our software allows video and MP3 playing capability. Because of this we've signed a contract with the parent company of Sony BMG and will be editing music videos by their artists to be played in our platform... and I'm the go to guy for this! Kick ass! I also got to hire an assistant for myself today. I have an assistant!! AKA coffee lackey!

Cons: Pretty much rewritting barely readable news articles from China and Korea.... it gets REALLY annoying to rewrite a 4 or 5 5-7 page news articles a day...

Overall, I love my job. Taking all the tools I learned from school and using them!

Yeah, I really value all the free time I get since I'm currently unemployed, but the lack of money is a real bitch. Hopefully I'll find a job soon

Software Developer/Web Developer

Pros:
I get to work from home.
I don't have to dress up
To an extent I can set my hours; as long as I get my crap done it's cool. Very Flexible.
I don't have to worry about any pesky corporate internet policy.
I make a lot of money.
I've loved computers/technology since I was a kid, so my career has become what I love to do.

Cons:
Not really any that I would consider abnormal. I've been a software developer for almost 10 years, and worked at several different places, and the IT environment in each place is basically the same. The one Con that I can constantly say about each place, to varying degrees, is that IT is usually overworked, under-funded, and under-appreciated. Many times other depts. have unrealistic expectations about IT projects, getting funding for IT is like pulling teeth, and in my experiences when it's time for job cuts, they look to IT as one of the first depts. Having said all that, these have all been corporations where the focus of the company was not IT-related (although at each place IT played a very significant role).

My Job: 9-1-1 Dispatcher

Pros: I get out of almost any ticket in a certain mile radius, I know about road closures before anyone, I hear the down and dirty on all gruesome or cool events in the area.

Cons: I work 6 days a week with at least 3 guaranteed OT shifts, the jags on the phone always telling me that their tax money pays my salary.

It's a good profession. I could seriously write a tell all book when I retire that people would love, just dealing with the calls that I have taken or been a part of in my career.

Thanks for the insight on your career. I'm actually studying to obtain my A+ certification, I want to get into IT as well. My main goal is to become one of those guys that's in charge of security for computers of big corporations, and yes, I plan on taking Network+ and Security+. Sad to hear IT guys are underappreciated, as if so many people know how to work with technology nowadays. We just had a huge layoff here, and the IS department got hit really hard. I hope that I can make it in my field as I can tell you have.

Location: Nowhere?
Job: Cashier/customer service at supermarket.

Pros: Decent pay. Can set up your own hours. Able to request days off for any time (week advance though). Work is pretty easy.

Cons: Can be long hours. Nightshifts can become extremely boring. Must deal with irritating customers every now and then.

Overall: Good place to start out, but you don't want to stay for too long (looking for a new job). The one advantage I like, is that you can set up your own hours.

Pros
- Can be away from People all day
- Decent Pay
- Not that much I have to do on a deadline
- See really cool old things (or not so old things like a Reagan Inguration Invite that came in yesterday)
- challenging because you have to figure out what people did with a thing-ma-jig
- Cool Boss
- I've off of work at decent hours
- Since school's out, no school tours

Cons
- Have to mess with volunteers who are three times my age (the closest person to my age is my boss and her youngest daughter graduated high school a year before me).
- Repeative at times
- The project I'm doing now is a bitch since I'm have to look at handwritten notes from 1976 that have been marked upon or can't read. The person who wrote them is dead so I can't ask them.
- I have to dress professionally even though my boss doesn't exactly have to (the person in charge of the checks kinda pushed that issues for me)
- County museum and not the Smithsonian. When I move to another one, I'll have convince them I don't have to be retaught

Pros:
Free home Internetz,Digital Cable(1/2 off ppv/premium channets), 1/2 off phone.
Full medical,dental,vision.
Full tuition reimbursement.
I get to watch TV while working.
Lots of gamers to work with and game with in the employee lounge which has 4 360s, 1 PS2, 1PS3, 2 Wiis, 1 Pinball machine, 12 Vending machines for food and drinks and 7 45" LCD screens.
Chance for advancement after 14 months.

Cons:
Crappy hours.
The older techs that think they are hardcore yet are reduced to help the technoobs over the phone because they decided to get comfy with one operating system and are now trying to catch up....(stupid guy next to me that thought Windows ME was great but is now a has-been.)
Crappy people that think they can fool the system by pleading that they paid the bill and that they sent it in the mail yet are to afraid to come down and file the complaint in person becuase they have no copy of the payment. Even though the bill was 2 months overdue and the balance was crazy...damn porn addicts lol.

All in all my job is great.
