Hey, I'm thinking of making an FAQ/Guide for Dead Rising, primarily a "time management" guide.

I'd start and stop times for all of Otis' transmissions, scoops, survivor's and psycho's appearing/disappearing, and basically just keep track of people's "window of opportunity" for completing things. Also, I'd keep track of what times effect what... like "Above the Law" for example, see what time you need to be somewhere before someone dies, sort of like with the Kent thing if you show up late.

First thing I need is the following:

Has this been done before? I can't find anything on GameFAQs but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. This seems like something... well... basic, that you'd EXPECT, considering people have archived all the clothing, pp shots, books, etc.

Second thing:

Does anybody want to assist with this? Sure, I can do it in multiple playthroughs, but it'd be MUCH easier if one or two other people joined in and we each took a day out of the 3 to be responsible for. We'd then keep track of all the different scoops and reports and basically just... look at them, on our watch, as they count down, start time and end time. It should be easy enough.

It is really tricky to be able to rescue all survivors and be to places on time to advance the story. I just rescued survivors whenever I could. Do you mean you want help with time management in the game so you can do that?

haha, you totally misread my topic. Now, I need help MAKING a guide, not a guide that tells you how to get and do everything (because, you can't, unless you abuse the Mega Buster.) I want to make a guide that people can use as a time reference for scoops and other time based events.

I think something similar was done with the guide for the "Frank the pimp" achievement. Albeit far smaller in scale then what your are planning, since it only focuses on that one achievement . There is also a guide for Otis' transmissions, but once again it only deals with them and gives no detailed walkthrough etc.
So more power to you. Go make this thing. Maybe I'll be able to get my 1000 GS in Dead Rising with the help of your ÜBER-guide.
:-D

Yeah, I'm going to pull whatever info I can. Some saint walkthroughs on GameFAQs have some "start" times for events but no end times. (Not that specific times REALLY matter since the analog watch is such a pain in the ass to read compared to a digital watch. It would've been nice if the game allowed you to change your watch style.)

You will probably have to restart the game until you are strong enough like I did. Or what you can do is go through the tunnels in the parking lot in the mall. Take a car, go left and you will see a truck with it's lights on. Just keep killing zombies and for every fifty you kill, you get five hundred exp points. You can rank up quickly with that at low levels.

Yeah, the "cheap" way to do it is grab some Zombie PP Books, there are two that boost your PP gained from killing zombies by 50% and then another by 50%, I think they're the Horror books. Then go into the tunnels and drive around for all 3 days. Not only will you be like level 30 - 50 by the time you finish, but you'll also unlock the most powerful gun in the game. The downside to all of that is simply the fact that the game will be retarded easy.

Not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about a time specific guide like... 4:00 AM - 6:00 PM you can do such and such event before it ends, etc. That sort of stuff.

Wow man, you're a pro. :)

Anywho, yeah... I'm going to try and do this after I pull myself away from Fallout 3.

Question:

I did up to the Evening of Day 1, but included, I added Time, Location, Reward, pre-requesits, and a description of whats happening, and what to do. Shall we be doing this for every event in the game? if so, I was wondering if anyone would be interested to give a sample read of what ive written so far.

Hrmm... you probably don't need to go into THAT much detail but pre-reqs and time/location would be the main things we'd like to keep in mind. Think of it like a timeline of the events in the mall as they fold out. Also, the most IMPORTANT thing is from what time to what time do the events last?

IE. If you never "visit" the location for the event, how long do you have before the event ceases to exist?

Also, Phil, don't bust your ass too hard on this, see how feasible it is for day 1 and if it's just a pain in the ass, or the events or the time starts/finishes are too random, then we'll drop the project. I haven't had the willpower/time to sit down and play Dead Rising lately. Primarily due moving and Fallout 3 consuming my life for a month (which I've yet to complete.)

I look at it this way. one person doing this, is quite troublesome.

but with two, it changes things considerably. one person keeps track of the mission timelines, and the other, keeps track of all the people timelines. if someone does the timeline of the story, then I can go ahead and work on all the survivor/psychopath/mutiny/request cases.

im up to the afternoons of Day 2, just gotta write in some descriptions for em.

by the way, a good way to tell time, is looking at the color bars. the second a bar goes from blue to yellow, that means 6 hours from then, it will expire. or, if it goes from yellow to red, its 3 hours to expire. I used that method and I wait every 30 minutes to check on the progress of the times :3 .
