So yeah, to be honest, I ain't much of a gamer anymore except classic collection and football games I rarely buy anything. I guess it's a loss of interest.

So yeah, any football guys, what's your favourites from days gone by? I mean if I asked "what's your favourite new football game?" and anything other than Pro Evo or Football Manager were mentioned, I'd wonder what the hell planet you come from.

I'll start with a couple.

Nintendo World Cup: What do you get when you cross River City Ransom and football? Pure awesome, that's what. Even if you're an American who think that football is modified rugby(just a joke, I'm actually quite partial to some gridiron despite not having good grasp of the rules) and like a bit of 8-bit shenanigans, you'll probably enjoy this, especially with 2-4 players. Great game.

Sensible Soccer/Sensible World of Soccer: 8x8 pixel players punting a 2x2 pixel ball around a field that's probably like 200 yards by 500 yards at ridiculously high speeds, comical shot/pass curling skills, stupendously bad goalkeeping and up to 64 players in a tournament or league? Bring a crate of beer each, lads, we're in for an all-nighter. Words cannot even begin the describe this game. Just watch this video. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=NNyU4xc-G6Y

There's more I could go on about, but I'll just list a few, and maybe let others elaborate or give their thoughts on the games I mentioned.

Other honourable mentions: Kick-Off, Striker, Goal, International Superstar Soccer Deluxe

Did you have original, Deluxe or the N64 one?

I had all 3(then again, check my location and it probably won't seem that strange :p), and the first, at the time was amazing, the second improved the first, not just ball control, but heading, shooting and the overall feel was just upgraded. As for N64? Well, I'm sure you've heard of Winning Eleven... ISS64 was called Winning Eleven in Japan. I'm sure you know the rest is history. ^_^;

When I used to play soccer many years ago, I enjoyed Fifa 99 on the N64.

Still looking for a copy of Pro Evo on Wii. I don't know why none of the stores around here have it.

The FIFA/UEFA games have been nasty since after FIFA '95, which ROCKED. I dunno how, but EA somehow broke the perfectly good FIFA '95 engine when they made '96 on the SNES/Mega Drive(it was based on FIFA '95, but they somehow broke the gameplay in a way I can't even explain), and well... the 3D engine was always bad. It's got worse over time, too. I mean the FIFA '96-'99 engine was forgivable because the hardware(PSX, you could say N64, but they were just straight ports of the PSX ones) they were using was hardly designed for football games, but after that they really should've done better.

On PS2/X-Box/360, they feel more like games that I should be shoving 20p coins into but won't hold my interest for more than an hour, rather than a game that is allegedly a simulation. Especially since to unlock everything you have to win EVERY SINGLE competition, some of which are 46 game round robin contests. For a game with such a mindless arcade feel that generally will only keep you entertained for an hour at most, that's one hell of a tall order.

Kick-Off (2, I think?) and Sensible Soccer are automatic win all throughout history no matter what came and shall come after them.

Personally I kinda prefer manager games though but I won't bother getting into that here though.

Oooh yeah, that's the stuff.

The last (realistic) soccer game I really enjoyed was This Is Football 2003 on the Playstation 2. I liked that you could take a dive in the penalty area and get a penalty too, it was very funny to mess with my friends that way.
The other game was Redcard Soccer, man that game had some vicious tackles.

Don't have to be serious football games. Like one of the ones I listed, Nintendo World Cup, is a fun little game using the characters from RCR to play football with things like lightning striking the pitch, rocks in the way and all sorts. If you ain't played it, it'll most likely be for VC download since it's a NES game. Really great game if you have 2-4 players and some beer on hand.

I'v played most football games since Football Italia 90 on the Megadrive. Pro Evo 5 on the PS2 I think has to be the best, Fifa 08 online over the xbox is great aswell.

Football games are totally addictive. I spent days playing both Goal! and Goal 2! for the NES and I was knocked flat when my grandmother bought me FIFA 94 for the Genesis. Then they screw the franchise up when they released FIFA 96.
The Super Sidekicks series is a great one too. I 've spent just too many coins in the arcades playing that one.

You're not really one to talk. English may have been invented over in Europe, but apparently you still don't know how to use it.
I think I'm going to start calling it soccer now just to spite you. XD

Fun fact: The word soccer was invented by an Englishman, and was used until the '70s as the main word, even over here. However, as a counter-case, soccer, short for Football Association, only refers to professional football. Football is the official name of the game, but soccer is a shorthand term for professional football.

I ain't fussed either way, to be honest. I never say soccer myself, but I firmly believe the way you talk should represent where you come from. For instance, I say "aye" instead of "yes", or "ya'right!" for "hey!". I refer to the game as football, but if I met an American or Australian who said football to refer to our game I'd probably be pretty freaked out by this.

I'd say the best football game so far has been Pro Evo 6. I felt like Pro Evo 2008 didn't try to do much to improve, gameplay wise.
