I liked edge a whole lot more back before they turned him into this whole rated R superstar asshole persona, back before the first time he got hurt and had to leave for a while, he was just funny as hell, everytime he opened his mouth hilarity ensued, now hes just bitter and mean and trying to be all hardcore, wish they would go back to the old edge like he was right after edge and christian broke as a tag team, as I found him to be much more entertaining then .

QFT, it seemed more natural back then.

Well, as far as Vickie goes, I can't exactly fault her for being in this storyline. She's doing what she has to in order to provide for her family, even if it involves sloppy makeouts with Edge, and I think Eddie could understand that; remember when he was supposedly shacking up with Chyna? This is hopefully something similar. Besides, we all know someone will interrupt the damn thing anyway, and I seriously hope it's Kane, just for the lulz. As for Edge, I think if he could make a turn to face, he would, but he's unfortunately locked himself into the role of heel because of the "Rated R Superstar" persona. It's almost like how Cena could easily turn heel (considering the fans either love him or loathe him, often in the same bloody arena), but he's made himself into a superface (and then they'd lose merchandise sales), so it could never happen...or they'd have to do it perfectly.

Quote:
With DiBiase as one of his trainers he's sure to be good but the limitations put in place by the WWE restricts his movelist significantly. Also it's worth noting that you're only as strong as your weakest link; if you're a great wrestler working with a sub-standard worker it's bound to look like crap unless you bring it down to his level.

Yeah, that's something that annoys me about the WWE now. They ban a bunch of moves and every match feels the same anyway, so it might hurt him in the long run. I guess feds like ROH and TNA don't have those restrictions (gotta do something towards a certain camera all the time, etc), but the WWE has always been more "sports entertainment"-focused than wrestling-focused...which hurts them because they're not even entertaining anymore.

Did you catch that new guy (former ROH) at the most recent (otherwise crappy as usual) WWECW? He's obviously still allowed to use a larger moveset. If they let him keep this style, WWECW might turn out pretty well with Punk, Kofi and Bourne - unless they are forced to switch brands in course of the upcoming draft that is. Speaking of ECW: Am I the only one thinking that Kane vs. Big Show at the next PPV doesn't sound halfbad? At least these two "monsters" actually know what they are doing and could put up an interesting match.

I'm guessing that they've realized that they need more starpower in ECW to draw a crowd; hell, I'd love to see ECW be more distinguished in their match-types and attitude but we all know that's not going to happen... Though I will say this: if they start to allow more dangerous moves in their ECW-branch then maybe Punk will stop using the G2S and go back to his Pepsi Plunge.
We can only hope...

I don't really like Kofi as it is now... his gimmick is just ridiculously generic and he's pretty sloppy (well... with most of their workers it's hard to tell who's messing up but still...). Just as with Edge and Cena I'd like to see him used in other ways. One thing's for sure and that's that he needs another gimmick.

I'd say Kane vs Show could be average but we'll just have to see... We'll be seeing a lot of "Mah Gawd, he can't POSSIBLY chokeslam someone of that SIZE!" though.

Too tell you the truth, I didn't even like that side. I liked when it was him, he never talked, and he came in out of the crowd. Then when they added Christian as his brother and they both came in out of the crowd. His theme music was badass.

Maybe I'm just getting more cynical as I get older, or the wonder of it has just worn off or something, because I really haven't been in to wrestling in a long time.

A lot of the wonder was when you were a kid watching it and believing it was all real. After that it's more an appreciation for the athleticism and skill of the workers... and seeing as that's kind of lacking in most orgs today it's hard to get motivated.

Yeah, we "smart marks", as they call it, are in a peculiar position. Take a TLC-match for instance: As a hardcore "smart mark" (which I am not, I hope), all you'll ever see is two guys setting up spots, sometimes so obvious that you scratch your head. As a casual fan, you just enjoy the carnage. You just don't care about how the table or ladder ended up being in that position.

It comes down to this: Without some supspension of disbelief you will never enjoy a fantasy sport like professional wrestling. It would be like watching a movie just to point out pimples on the actors' faces.

I both agree and disagree on that; some workers are great at setting up spots and can make it work even if you're a hardened cynic like myself. In my mind there shouldn't be any suspension of disbelief necessary in wrestling (or in movies for that matter, but I'll get to that some other time) as that's kind of taking a "cheap way out"; we failed at making it plausible or natural so it's the viewer's fault for not suspending his disbelief.

Anybody else excited for the Draft that's going on today on RAW. It's always interesting to see where some wrestlers go. Then you can almost predict who they will rival with because of past events.

eh, the draft is all a sham, a bunch of small potatoes will get shuffled around and 1 or 2 big guys will switch shows just to make it seem like something happend and at the end of the day everything will be mostly the same.

what they need to do, is take the story arcs, mic skills, showmanship and production values of WWE and mash it up with the wrestling and energey of TNA and well be getting somewhere.

Is it just me or is the WWE picking up some steam lately? The Summerslam-PPV was fairly good and even the inferior ECW featured some great (albeit short) matches. That Evan Bourne fellow does some very impressive things. There got to be springs in his legs …

As for the "less blading in WWE because of PG"-issue - I don't mind as long as there are still crazy spots like the ones in the latest "Hell in a Cell". I think the fascination of blood in the wrestling ring is wearing itself out. I don't follow CZW, but as far as I can tell even their blood baths seem somewhat stale these days.

And the Jericho/Michaels feud is awesome - a perfect blend of kayfabe and reality. Jericho plays the uber-heel to perfection. And he actually hit poor Mr. Hickenbottom square on her lip because she couldn't dodge it properly. Ouch!

oh hai guyz, what's going on in this thread? ^^

damn we have a wrestling thread here and i didn't see it...until now
well i watch it since the late 90's,the attitude era showed us the best that wrestling has to offer thanks to the competitive spirit of WWF and WCW who were engaged in a ratings war that brought out the best of the 2 companies.
while wrestling has gone up and down since that i've always found somekind of entertainment value in the program and right now pretty good stuff is going on
since the draft,Smackdown! is getting better and better due to TripleH,J.R. and the returning Undertaker
the diva division has also improved in the last couple of months. divas was pretty much all about good looking women in stupid contests like "lingerie pillow fights" but not anymore, the ladies are getting it on and i gotta give em props for that
and Raw got CTC and the most popular champion in recent histroy CM Punk
.....the only thing that i still don't care about is ECW but i'm thankfull that they took Mark Henry out of the good shows and gave him a championship that's pretty much wothless

I'm surprised to see a wrestling thread here. Well, I think WWE is on the right track right now. They're bringing in a lot of new talent, and letting the younger guys shine for once. CM punk has been doing a great job with the belt, he's a great athlete and a positive role model. I think now that Triple H is finally off of RAW.. newer more deserving wrestlers have a better shot.

Did anyone here order Summer Slam? I tried to watch it but sadly the PPV event reception was bad for some reason. A refund was given for such crappy reception. I didn't get to see the one match I really want to see the hell in the cell match. The highlights were good this Friday on Smackdown. I still would prefer to have watched it live when it all went down.

Yeah, I ordered SummerSlam. It was pretty good, I watched it with a bunch of friends and we we're all really into the Hell in a Cell match. If you can.. you should check out the replay. The Taker/Edge match was great but the MVP vs Hardy watch was really good too.

I wish Kurt Henning and Ravishing Rick Rude were still alive, back in the day those guys were classic. Bring Back Razor Ramon Vince, he's still in shape, better shape than Hogan.

Actually Razor Ramon "Scott Hall" has been wrestling in Mexico for the last year and is in pretty good shape. I personally would love to see him make a comeback.

Another one for the good guys :serious:
