I'll admit that I've never actually played this game ever. Until recently since I purchased the newly revamped DS version of the game. Now I regret not playing it in the past! The game is fantastic not to mention hard but I love a good challenge. I don't know about you guys but I like to play my RPG's on active rather than this wait crap. Keeps you on your toes and you can make a plan if you die. I don't think I've ever played a FF with so many tear jerking moments I won't say what they are for the sake of not spoiling anything. Man I thought I had played some games with the most unhappy things happening but not as much as the tragedy's that happen in FFIV. I'm looking forward to beating it and this might be the first FF I play through again on New Game+.

I'm a little pissed, as All my local stores dont even have a copy. I've owned all american copies of the game, but cant even find a copy, and the stores I asked, said they dont even have a shipment date for it. >>

I own every version of Final Fantasy 4 that came out in the US, needless to say, I'm a big fan. I was wary about this version because of voices/3D. I have to admit though, Square came through and this is a great version. Final Fantasy 4 was one of the first RPG's I ever played and I love it now as I loved it then.

I'm guessing that they will prob release 5/6 in the same way. They are releasing Dragon Quest 4-6 on the DS so I kinda figure that the same will happen for the other FF's.

I'm glad that you enjoyed this game so much, and if you haven't, I hope you play other Final Fantasy's especially older ones. If you can get a hold of Final Fantasy 6 in any way, I would suggest you do so.

FFIV pretty much cemented the fact that I was going to end up a console RPG freak. I've owned what I think is every version except for this one. Honestly though, I don't think I am going to get this version. Not because I don't think it wouldn't be fun but because I just played through Chrono Trigger again and it seemed...small. Something that I realized was for myself, one reason I love the games so much was because I first played them when I was a kid and they seemed so big. Kind of the wonder and awe factor. It wasn't there when I was playing CT. There were a lot of other things I noticed that I never noticed before which made up for the loss of the wonder factor. But those were things I noticed on the old version of it. I'm thinking I won't end up getting the CT remake either.

Then again, we'll see. I know there are a bunch of moments that I would like to see again with updated graphics and sound. Like
Spoiler
Palom and Porom turning to stone.
I bet that part looks freaking sweet. The summons probably look badass too. I think I wouldn't be doing myself any favors if I passed on this.

FF IV is probaly my favorite JRPG of all time, its close between 4, 6 and 7 but I think 4 edges the others out, there are just so many great moments I remember about this game like...

Spoiler
getting to the bottom of that one cave in the underground and finding yang unconcious in the bed when you thought he was dead, for me this was epic as yang was probaly my favorite character for some reason

I dont have a DS atm , I had to sell mine for gas money about a year ago, but I definatly plan on getting another one very soon and this will be the first game I get for it.

This game is amazing. I have played through it multiple times, once on the SNES, and once on the GBA, but this version is by far the best. The voice acting is incredible, especially Kain. I never get tired of this game and I hope we get to see FFVI (III) done in this fashion in the very near future.

I also can't wait until Chrono Trigger is released on DS but since it supposedly isn't getting the graphical upgrade like FFIV and will probably be purely a port, my excitement wains a little bit.

Maaan, I can't begin to proclaim my love for FFIV. I played it after a lot of the older final fantasies (I think maybe even FFIX) but I still instantly fell in love with it. It has a charm that has never quite been replicated again in any Final Fantasy. I'd say that this was the first game in the series to really get everything right. It had decent enough graphics (especially for the time), a storyline you could sink your teeth into, gameplay that stayed fun throughout with epic boss battles. Sadly it also had a difficulty that was relentless in every way (Unless you play the easytype, but that's only half the game IMO).

I have ordered FFIV DS (I love the region-free DS, no way am I waiting until October for the UK release). I am excited, very excited.

I would love to see FFV done in the same style but honestly, I don't think the style would fit FFVI. I would prefer to see something a little different done with FFVI. I really want Square Enix to do something special if they're going to remake FFVI.

I think that it'd be amazing to see FFVI all decked out in next gen graphics.

As for FFIV it is my favorite FF possibly because I've played it the most. I love the boss theme of FFIV as well. But that might be because it's the same one that appears when you fight Culex in Super Mario RPG...
:-D

I picked up the SNES version recently and can't wait to begin playing it. I'm still working on VI at the moment but this thread has really gotten me pumped. Thanks for using the spoiler tags!!

Dammit, I'm really tempted to go out and pick up a DS this weekend. This game was fun as hell back in the day and I've been following all the trailers / previews and now that the game is out I still don't have a DS. :-?

With DQIV coming out next month and Chrono Trigger after that I really think now is the time to pick up a DS.

I havn't picked this up yet but I will very soon.
Having finished III not too long ago I can't wait to play a game with more story and similar pretty graphics.
It'll be a nice refresher too since I've only finished IV once and with my crappy memory I've forgotten a lot of the story  .

I just went through two fights back to back I thought were a bit tuff.

Spoiler
The 4 archfiends back to back then the CPU. It was mostly hard for me on the CPU because of the laser attack one of the nodes does. It took out just about everyone except for Rosa and Cecil. I just happen to get lucky today and the attacking node didn't get off any attacks till a few turns later. Rather than the usual 1st attack so that bought me some time. I cast shell and kept healing with Rosa while summoning Ramuh. Throwing surikens with Edge and attempt to hurt the node with Cecils attacks.

I pulled it off and I consider myself very lucky that I didn't wipe right at the start of the fight. If I think this fight is hard I wonder what the final boss is like. :-?

I'm finding the DS version is significantly more difficult than even the PSX port, and a lot more tedious. Though, playing it only makes me long to pick up the SNES version again -- and it's purely the music. I know people think FF6's soundtrack is Uematsu's masterpiece, but I honestly think FF4's soundtrack is where it's at. I get injected with nostalgia every time I hear a song from it.

Yep, they did that on purpose because a major gripe about any of the U.S. versions that were released were way watered down on the difficulty level. I also read that many of the tactics used on prior versions don't work anymore.

I've never played it before either, so I picked it up. It's pretty good. But after playing FF6 on GBA I have one major and annoying complaint and that's how the progress bars completely stop everytime an attack animation goes off. It really breaks the flow. In FF6 i liked how it kept going when attacks went off so you could startegize, say, use an attack with a long animation before it's Cyan's turn to give him extra time to charge up his Bushido ability. Aside from that and some lag issues during battle, its a good game. I give it an 8.4.

Final Fantasy IV for the Ds rules.

Now that I have made my statement heres my short explanation.

With this Remake Square Enix have nailed everything that is Final Fantasy. The 3d graphics are perfect for the game, since it perfectly represents the original graphic style on the Snes version in an amped up form. YOu can also really understand why Square chose to have voices in the FF titles from FF X and upwards (Except in FF III remake), the voices in FF IV really gives the game a whole new emotional dimension.

Spoiler
Just came from the battle with Rubicante and it was one
of my most epic Final Fantasy moments ever.

The gameplay is just as good as it was on the Snes, one thing is better thou, and thats the upped Difficulty. I love that the game is harder in every way cause the Original was way to easy I think.

If they make a Final Fantasy V and VI remakes like this then I will buy it bigtime :) cause I love the FF IV remake.
