Well what do you guys think?

Both have their ups and downs obviously...But my main concern with LCDs is the response time. For now, I have my eye on this Samsung 720p 40" Display, and it's supposed to be great based on all of the reviews, but I just don't know if its response time '6ms' will cut it. I'm so used to my killer high end Sony Wega CRT SDTV which is perfect when it comes to everything picture wise....just no 720p, widescreen or HDMI of course.

But ya, Plasma on the other hand beats LCD when it comes to Response time, better blacks and even color...Yet the down side is that their 42" models, are lower res(for some odd reason), they're 1024 x 768, where as LCDs are 1366 x 768 no matter what size you buy for 720p....I mean is there really even a difference when playing a PS3/360 Game as far as resolution goes? because i really don't want to have to get a '50' " 720p Plasma in order to get 1366 x 758. And what I dont understand is that why arent 720p displays 1280 x 720? wtf!?. that's what 720p is, and that's what the 360 and PS3 DO.

Besides that, what do you guys prefer based on what you've played on? for now I'm all for CRT, but of course, there arent any CRT HDTVS that go beyong 34" sadly.

I have both an LCD is way better for games, Plasma is better for movies and TV. Simple as that.

So how exactly is LCD better for gaming? I know there's no worry for burn in and no picture glare, but you're saying you'd rather have a slower response time, inferior color and black levels from an LCD? And the thing is, I want an HDTV for Blu ray, PS3, Wii and 360...Actually, Then again...The Wii migh actually be better on my SDTV considering it's not HD....No need to worry about a blown up image and scaling lag, but then I'll be missing out on Progressive and Widescreen. :-?

The reason why is that the "inferior" visual aspects are hardly noticeable. And, Plasmas are pretty susceptible to burn in ... you want to use it with games that have stationary huds almost all the time ... play some game for 100 hours with the same hud throughout the whole time and you'll notice some pretty bad burn in.

Here's a pretty good example of what can happen in extreme cases.
But ... if you're only planning on using it for 5 years or so ... it'll work. At that point in time you probably wont even notice any dimming in brightness either.
I don't know why you keep bringing up 720P plasmas ... almost all plasmas around are full 1080P. Most LCDs of the same size are the same.

All games on my LCD compared to the plasma are cleaner, brighter, crisper and easier to follow. There is no burn in, no ghosting, no shadowing or anything like that which you do get for spit seconds during high movement situations. Like on Halo when you are on Snowbound on a ghost in the little cave it does it pretty blatantly. On my LCD nothing at all.

Alright I see what your saying, but really your just basing it off of one display, unless you've checked out some others.
Anyways, here's the LCD I plan on buying in a weeks or so, and I don't care for 1080p, since the only thing it's good for is Blu ray...And the difference between 720p and 1080p is really only noticable over 50" but even then you have to be sitting close to the screen to even tell.

Anyhoo, I'm going with this display > http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... 2649424224

So what do you think, solid choice?

my cousin has a plasma its terrible for response time on games if not all. especially if you are playing DDR or any other game that requires timing. although most rythem games come with time lag calibration.

Wierd. being that Plasmas have a faster response time than LCDs. But then again, he must have an old model. Also Response time and Lag are two different things...You must be talking about scaling Lag

none of the sort really. its is the lag that she has problems with. im pretty sure if you tried playing mario on it you'd have problems.
EDIT: i do remember hearing about timing problems in PUNCHOUT!! for the nes on TVs like that as well

So is it an older model? and ya you're talking about Scaling Lag...since Punch-out!!(for example) is 480i and it's being upscaled to 720p i'm guessing....The newer models out now really don't have that kind of problem, or to the degree that you're describing....unless we're talking DLP...But ya want kind of plasma is it?

i have no idea dude. i just don't go apeshit for big TVs, LCDs, or plasma's its not until the current one breaks i look into a new one. i think its gonna be quite a while before lag time reaches the 0 mark anyway.
she's got a wide screen TV quite big.

Well as it stands, i'm worried that i'll get some slight scaling lag when i play wii games on the LCD i plan on picking up....Although it is obviously a new model and it has GameMode. i really need to test before i buy.

LCD saves you money because Plasma needs much more power.

I'd totaly go with LaserVue handsdown, but seeing as they currently don't have any displays that are under 65" and 720p, i'm not interested.

I guess, but the only real reason why i'm going with A Samsung 40" LCD over a Samsung 42" Plasma is because the Plasma that i am interested in has a lower resolution...But all 720p plasmas under 50" have lower resolutions which sucks....Because I would of prefered the slightly better color, black levels and of course response time, but the lower Res breaks it for me. :serious:

My parents have a 50 something inch Plasma and I prefer my 32" LCD to it. Way better for gaming.

Wrong-O there Ratix, some HDTVs just handle it better than others. By the way, what kind of TV do you use to play VideoGames? I myself, use CRT and LCD
