NY Rangers fan here. Not sure if all the moves are going to work, and it seems as though there are some 'Nuck fans in the room, so perhaps they can lend a better perspective on the impact of Naslund. I certainly DON'T like the signing of Redden, especially to a albatross of a contract that the Rangers will never find their way out of. I will eat some 'fishsticks' if Redden does indeed pan out, but until then, I think that was a horrible signing. Zherdev was a shrewd move, but once again, I just hope the hockey gods haven't sent us another Kovalev. We'll see how it goes. From a fan perspective, it always seems the Rangers are in transition. Haven't really been able to solidly root for a player since the Richter/Leetch days.

Good luck Jagr by the way, thanks for the time in NY.

I've been a Bruins fan through and through. I like getting into the game, and I think that the Bruins-Canadiens series re-invigorated Boston for hockey. We'll be back to the Stanley Cup Finals eventually. Now that we have Ryder, who has always been great with Claude Julien as his coach, I think we stand a good chance at doing better.

Then don't post in this topic. Simple solution.

The Rangers have a pretty solid core I think, and one of the best goalie's in the league. I have to agree with you, the Redden signing might come back and bite you. His play has gone downhill the last two seasons, and signing him for the same money for the same salary he was making? It seems like they're trying to compliment his shitty performance in Ottawa... but that's my bias talking.

Naslund I think will help your team. I think a change in scenery and a fresh start will help him, and the Rangers out. He's also a great leader.

I don't know man, Luongo is pretty solid, as far as goal tenders are considered. My favorite goaltender is actually Kipper in Calgary.

He said one, not the best. 3 year finalist for the Vezina in his first three years in the league; The King is pretty solid. Luongo may be slightly better, but I really haven't seen him play since the Isles/Panthers days. The only goalies I'd take over Lundy is Luongo, maybe. Brodeur, as much as I hate to admit, is the best, but he's too old to build a team around, AND, he got destroyed in the playoffs by the Rangers. I never seen him play so bad.

Lundquist is definetly in the top 5 goalies in the league today. I don't think anyone can deny that. Brodeur had an off season last year, but even at his age he's still amazing.

My picks for top 5 goalies are:

1)Brodeur
2)Luongo
3)Nabokov
4)Lundquist
5)Kipper

Top three goalies I'd say imo are:
1.) Luongo
2.)Hasek
3.)Kipper

Hasek's retired now. In the 90s/early 2000s I would 100% agree with you. He was incredible. But since coming back from his first retirement he wasn't the same. Still a great keeper, mind you, but not as good as he used to be. Also, since winning his first cup he's never had to really carry a team. He's had some good backups like Osgoode, Emery (even though he's a douchebag), Legacy and Cujo. Brodeur, Luongo, Nobokov and Kipper (even though he had Cujo as a backup for part of last season) have had no real good backup and have had to carry their team. I also think Nobokov is very underated and overlooked. The man is a workhorse and a superb goaltender. For sure in the top 5 elite of today.

Yeah, I forgot about Nabokov, he's pretty solid. As far as Hasek goes, I was talking more about his days in Buffalo, that guy was unreal. :-D

Oh, I agree totally. Hasek in his hayday could only be matched by Brodeur and Roy for skill. Even the year his first cup with Detroit he had an amazing season and playoff run. The guy will be in the hall of fame the first year he's available for sure.

I'm amazed at how long Hasek has chosen to play, there's only a hand full of guys that play into their mid to late forties, which is insane for a hockey player. That's some intense punishment those guys' bodies goes through, guys like Hasek and Chris Chelios, amazing examples of what kind of people are involved in hockey. Fedrov has got to be getting pretty close to 40 too.

No doubt, and don't forget about Gary Roberts. That man is a tank for his age.

I really think Hasek should have stayed retired the first time around. When he came back he had too many injury problems. Not to say that he still wasn't good. He had some fantastic numbers. If he remained healthy a few years ago I think Ottawa would have won the cup.

Hell yeah Gary Roberts really held the Penguins together with an ass load of experience, that team is so young they probably need that knowledge and calmness from experience.

For sure. Tampa's going to love him this season... too bad they have no defence or goaltending!

I think he fits just fine with the Leafs, they'll need him.

I say sign Sundin, that way it'll be easier to get Gillis to be fired sooner then later and then maybe we can beg and plead and get Nonis back or someone who knows how to build a team. This was the one offseason in which Nonis would finally have Burkie's dead weight contracts eliminated but no he never got a chance to really build his own team, it's a real shame.

Three things.

1) Nonis signed Naslund to that deal.
2) Gillis has done a decent job as GM. Improving our scouting department and we now have the most money put into player development in the NHL.
3)We have Mason Raymond, who will score at least 50-60 points this season so we finally have two lines(They aren't amazing I admit, but better than what we have had before).

Raymond-Krog/Wellwood-Demitra or Raymond-Demitra-Grabner/Pyatt

Honestly, I can't remember the last time there has been such a soap opera relating to a free agent. Sundin has been rumored everywhere, including the Iraqi National Ice Hockey Team. But seriously though, I think a dark horse may enter the fray, namely the Colorado Avalanche, or Calgary Flames. I just don't see the Rangers making salary room for him, as much as I'd like them too (ONCE again -- should not have signed Redden), Philly simply does not have the space either. Montreal, Vanny, and Toronto are the most logical options. But, like I said, look out for a dark horse team.

If anyone cares the greatest player in the league has re-signed with the Colorado Avalanche.
