It's very awkward when almost 60-75% through the game you end up defeating the pseudo final boss and then you're all like "Uhh.... now what?"

it always been like that always a damn rune in the end....

Well technically in the 4th one...

Spoiler
It's a tree!

Used a spoiler just because there's people that read this that didn't play Suikoden yet.

I hope Suikoden VI is announced at E3. I'm sort of worried the franchise is dying. :(

I remember buying Suikoden 1 at Electronics Boutique one day when it came out new not even knowing what it was. I just looked at the back cover and knew that I would love it, and I was right. One of the best, if not the best, random purchases I've ever made. I love this series.

The 'american fantasy' looking artwork on the cover of Suikoden 1 really made me think it was some weird boring D&D styled game, or even worse a non-RPG that would be like a really old version of Kessen or Romance of the III Kingdoms.

Yeah the cover of 1 isn't what made me want to buy it, I'm still confused to this day about who exactly everyone is on it. I just saw the back screen shots and saw that it was 2D and looked awesome.

suikodens 1-3 are pretty awesome games. i really like how fast the battles are especially. a big thing for me with rpgs is that the battles need to go pretty quickly, and most of the battles are over in less than 30 seconds. plus the experience curve makes leveling up new characters super easy.

also Image luca is one happenin' cat.

My favorite suikoden is easily the first one. I loved the story, the rune being a self desctructive weapon, amongst other story developments in the game. I've also finished the game three times without actually owning a copy of the game
<_<

I missed out on Suikoden II and Suikoden III but I was able to obtain Suikoden IV and finished it. I must admit that i expected more out of the fourth one. A lot of the familiar systems were still around and I didn't like the change from 6 party members down to 4.

about 6 months ago I found out that Suikoden V was already out for a while.. which by the time i began looking around for the game it was no where to be seen. So like an impatient person I went to a gamestore that often had more rare games and paid multiple pretty pennies for the game (70 bucks!? DAMNIT). So far I haven't gotten very far but the game is really starting to pick up.

Now, my cousin also purchased the game not knowing I already had it. He went to a local blockbuster and looked in "Previously used" bin and got Suikoden V for $20.

I hurt inside. :ouch:

Money isn't that big of an issue but I'm just bitter >_<
Like when the PSP compilation of suikoden 1&2 chose not to have a North American Release. (There goes my reason to buy a PSP)

To recap: I've finished Suikoden I multiple times. I missed out on Suikoden II, Suikoden III and Suikoden Tatics. I own and finished suikoden IV and am currently playing a very expensive Suikoden V.

For anyone who's looking for more information on suikoden as a series on a whole. You can find all the information you'd ever want on suikoden at http://www.suikosource.com. The site isn't the easiest to navigate but if you trudge through that you'll eventually find what you want.

I apologize if I bored you x_x

Play these. Immediately. Do you live in the states? Have you tried ebay?! They really aren't THAT expensive. Well... Suikoden II is since 125 dollars for it is considered 'cheap'

http://cgi.ebay.com/Suikoden-II-COMPLET ... dZViewItem

But it's easily the best one and worth the cash, or worth modding an old PSX to play a burner iso of it.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Suikoden-III-Playst ... dZViewItem

Suikoden III is cheap, as you can see, 30 bucks Buy it Now.

Tactics is epic cheap @ 15 bucks

http://cgi.ebay.com/Suikoden-Tactics_W0 ... dZViewItem

OR

you can buy both for 40 bucks from this one guy!

http://cgi.ebay.com/2-Suikoden-game-Lot ... dZViewItem

Overall, I'd shell out that 40 dollars and get the III & Tactics combo, for reals. It does blow super hardcore that II is so expensive, but it's also awesome that I own a fully working and intact copy with the manual, etc.

I must admit, I jumped in on the Suikoden Series late... in fact I started with Suikoden V and honestly I find it a truly amazing game. I like the art style although I sometimes think it looks a little empty. The game really does take you on a journey and although in reality the story is quite linear, it's told in such a way that you really feel like your making a big difference in the world. I actually quite enjoyed the war battles, which I really thought I wouldn't. The silent protagonist quite often just leaves the main character being weak with little development but Suikoden Remedied this with having a secondary character follow all the time.

For all it's positives there are a few negatives, and sadly one of them a bit of a biggie. The battle system. Not a bad battle system but it is simplistic and lacked much depth. I can understand why, with so many characters it would be too difficult for the player if there was too much depth. It doesn't make the game unplayable, far from it, but it is a little of a turn-off.

Another problem are the over-powered characters which are thrown into you're party. The worst offender is Zerase who I refused to touch when I realised just how over-powered she was. Luckily it's not a big problem because you can choose between so many other playable characters. It does lower the difficulty of an already easy game.

I'm in the middle of playing the first Suikoden at the moment, again on my list of games I need to finish. I'm not overly keen on it and I'm finding it a little boring... but it should be worth it because once I'm done with it I'll move onto Suikoden II.

I doubt I'll ever play Suikoden III, no relase in PAL areas >.< and Suikoden IV's terribleness isn't exaggerated. Really I don't like talking about that game.

Zerase is definitely overpowered, I've played through the game only using her when have to and every other time using other characters. But at a different time, I've also tried playing only using her and characters you have to.. Only using her was easier >_>

Actually, the fact she IS overpowered is to reflect that well... she's powerful. Hell, in the original Suikoden the main character's rune was over powered as shit. xD They make game mechanics to reflect the powerfulness of somebodies true rune.

haha, I'm thinking of making an 'The Unknown Age' sub-forum, where we'll store all the unknown topics for future discussion.

This piece of news is a couple days old, but according to NeoGaf there's a new Suikoden in works for the DS called "Suikoden Tierkreis."

Quote:
The latest issues of Famitsu has revealed Konami newest project, Suikoden Tierkreis for the Nintendo DS. This portable title is a brand new game in the Suikoden series and will feature 3D characters, voice acting, and cinematic cutscenes. The game is an estimated 50% complete at this time.

Suikoden Tierkreis includes touch screen functionality to move battles along at a speedy pace. The game still looks to feature the series staple 108 characters, but the party size has appeared to drop to a maximum of four in battle. It is stated that Tierkreis will have support characters and new races. The quest appears to involve a new main character attempting to reunite the 108 heroes after a tragic loss to the game's villain. Unfortunately, no release date has been stated as of yet. There is also no word of a North American release, though the name has been trademarked in the US, time will tell.

It should be noted that this isn't Suikoden VI.

Man, they should port Suikogaiden 1 & 2 to the DS. :-/

Side-Note: The fact Suikoden 1 & 2 on the PSP never made it to the states makes me worried about the chances of this coming here.

And it was the fucking BOMB!

Unfortunately, i lost my PS and also my game :( Reading this really makes me want to play this awesome game again. Never finished it, got stuck at the battle after you got the castle i think.
