So, I started getting my fat ass out of my chair at and away from my desk at work to go on walks during my lunch break. I hate walking and normally spent my hour break playing old school SNES on my PSP. I also love to read but between having a new kid, going to school full time and working 55 hours per week finding time to read anything other than a comic was not likely.

I used to hate, really loathe audiobooks but I figured what the hell because I can only listen to so many podcasts before you start hearing different people talk about the same shit.

So, while I know this doesn't technically count as "reading" I'm working my way through 2001: A Space Odyssey. Really fascinating book. All of the sudden references in movies and television make much more sense. The way the future is described has some pretty accurate portrayals of what we actually have now. I'm on chapter 17 - the trip to Saturn and just got introduced to the legendary HAL 9000.

What are you reading right now?

Yeah, I just got back into reading this year... kind of like a new year's resolution. Looking for something productive to do while on my hour-long bus rides to and from work so why not read a book. Finished the Dave Grohl Biography. Good read. A big chunk of it was mostly a history of punk rock of the 80s and bands/people that inspired Dave. Pretty interesting stuff.

Reading World War Z now and it's freakin fantastic! Also half way through V for Vendetta.

Finished World War Z last week and started reading the Dexter series of books again. About half way through the first book already. Very quick reads, but excellent books.

Started reading the Orc King by R.A. Salvatore. Before that, I read Hounded by Kevin Hearne (good book).

Ready Player One & Redshirts are two fucking amazing books that any self-respecting nerd should read. Also, don't be fooled, Redshirts is about sci-fi in general not specifically Star Trek. Ready Player One is like a cyberpunkish '80s movie fandom circle jerk.

I'm also reading Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Vastly different (and better) than the movie.

Finished the first Dexter book and 2/3 the way through the second. The first season of the show is better than the book I think (the book just ended abruptly with little closure) but the second book is better than the second season. Vastly different stories, but I find the book more compelling and what the killer does, although I don't really call him that is just creepy and... let's just say what he does to people would probably be my biggest nightmare.

Also finished V for Vendetta while on vacation. I want to read Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter too. Think I might put that on my birthday wish list.

Warning: Dexter Book 3 is kinda dumb. Not necessarily bad ... but it gets into some weird territory regarding the Dark Passenger.

About 2/3's of the way through Ender's Game. Crazy mix of Starship Troopers and Lord of the Flies. With the best parts of both.

My girlfriend read it and gave me a very brief rundown. It does sound kinda dumb, especially because the second book is really good. I guess I'll see.

Sadly, I do think Book 2 is the best in the series so far. We'll see if Dexter's Debut can change that. (It sounds like a good setup, to say the least)

I can honestly say, though. Considering the last season of the show, the books are, overall, much stronger.
I think the books are also much darker in tone than the show, by like a mile.

Books tend to be better than the movie/tv counterpart most of the time as they can get away with more. Although I still think season 1 of the show is better than the first book as it... well ended with a sense of closure. But then again, after the first book both really go in different directions so it's kind of hard to compare at times. The show's been fizzling away with meh storylines (plus side there's only two seasons less so hopefully they can refocus and get back to what made it awesome) but I'll have to plow through the other books before I can say which I think is really better. I still think season 4 is some of the best tv I've ever watched.

Honestly, I thought the show was pretty weak after Season 3. I wasn't that floored by Season 4 at all.

The books followup all loose ends.

Just wrapped up Ender's Game which totally delivers on all fronts. Definitely one of the better reads I've done in a good long while.

In keeping with the theme of top sci-fi books ever I am thinking of either tackling Foundation by Asimov, Stranger in a Strange Land, Starship Troopers or I, Robot next.

The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta. Not sure where the book is going, but in a good way. Looking forward to the next book in The Passage series by Justin Cronin.

Also, recently finished Jurassic Park for the first time. It was my first Chrichton novel. Gotta say, his characters are very weak and the ending just fell apart - but I still enjoyed it.

Troy Denning - The Crimson Legion

It is set in the Dark Sun Dungeons & Dragons universe and the second book which was preceded by The Verdant Passage.

It is very action oriented, but it is also not to intense that you wouldn't understand it if you never heard of the Dark Sun universe.

**EDIT**

Finished that. I am now reading...

Terry Brooks - The Wishsong Of Shannara

This is the final book in the first trilogy in the Shannara universe. I absolutely adored the first two and I cannot wait to read this one. So Excited!
