Deep down in my soul I want the Wii U to be awesome, but my brain keeps telling me that it will be the same experience I've had with the Wii. Some amazing first party games crippled by forced new ways of gameplay that are harder to pull off then buttons and a few gems of 3rd party support. I wanted to love the Wii, but the Wii didn't love me back. I am prepared for the same rejection letter from the Wii U. God I hate the Wii name. Also PC!!!!!

im not excited about any of the consoles at the moment.
i barely play the Wii
I use the 360 as a media center for my videos and make purchases on the market place
and the ps3 is a blueray player that happens to play good games but needs a solid RPG, wizardry almost makes the cut but its on the back burner for now

I'm less excited about the next console cycle than anything. Are people even craving new systems yet? WiiU sure, the Wii itself is done. But the next Xbox or Playstation? In this economy I don't think people are ready to shell out $500+ for a new system. I have decent PC that runs games wonderfully so I'll just stick with that at launch.

Here's what needs to happen:

Nintendo: Wii U
Xbox: New Console that can sustain Blu-Ray type discs of both storage and quality
Playstation: Software overhaul to look more like Xbox, but keep the PSN free.

Nope. The older I get the less time I have to spend playing new systems with games that take three hours to get in to, have a multi-player shelf life of two months before people quit playing them, have a single player experience that is just multi-player but with bots or just complete shit, and cost more than I am willing to spend on food for a month.

The older I get, the more I find myself going back to older games that I can play for five minutes and feel like I got somewhere.

Or indie/small budget games that play like old school games. See: Bastion, Gemini Rue, Super Meat Boy, Legend of Grimrock, shit like that.

The older I get the less inclined I am to have to work through all the bullshit to get to the game.

My first memory is playing some handheld car racing game that was a scroll of paper with cars on it that looped around and you had to hold a button down to make it go and you made a little paper cutout car miss the obstacles. You only lost if you let go of the button.

That was in like, 1981.

Brother, I think I'm done with consoles.

Edit:

I found the first memory I have...it's this old bucket.

I had that too! Well, I had a variation of it anyways. Signs you're old...

I don't think I'm done with consoles but I can tell you I won't be jumping in right away. It took me two years after launch and a boxing day sale to get the 360, it took getting it for free when I bought my tv to get the PS3 and it took the huge price drop and going halfs with my girlfriend to get the Wii so I'm a cheap bastard when it comes to buying systems. I don't see myself buying all three systems next gen. I'll pick one and go with it and stick with my PC for the rest.

Nintendo at heart... Can't go past Wii U soley for first party titles, and now third party line-up looking strong.

The WiiU looks pretty underwhelming. Touch screen gimmicks, mario, pikmin, and old games.

Microsoft seems too transfixed on kinect and media apps. Will be surprised if their next console even plays video games.

I might just skip the next console cycle and focus on handhelds and retro stuff.

The other 2 haven't been announced, and the WII-U looks weird as hell.

I'm looking forward to the Wii U quite a bit. All the stuff they've shown has me in pretty good spirits about the whole thing (I think most people are jaded about everything and just aren't happy unless their personal idea of what Nintendo should do is fulfilled, which just isn't going to happen)

In terms of Microsoft and Sony ... they haven't shown anything yet ... but it'll likely play out like it does normally ... Sony will be the only one I'd consider buying new between the two and I'll have to wait several years until it's actually affordable. Microsoft will make something that will break constantly and have service charges everywhere.

I hope more developers properly support PC in the coming years. Seriously.
