I think the problem is that old school RE isn't relevant to Capcom anymore and they are just trying to push themselves away from everything Mikami established. If they want to do that, fine, but my biggest annoyance is that they're dragging the characters that we grew to like in the older games. Leon seems like the only one who wasn't ruined, but Chris and Jill got ruined, and Wesker's entire character of a sociopath who only wants to keep his skin turned into a world conquering bent psychopath. If you want this to be an action series, then put in new characters or at least try to stay true to the characters rather than slap them on the game with horrible storytelling (even by RE standards).
I dunno. It's just not the RE game I love to play. I never enjoyed RE solely because of action. I enjoyed it for it's atmosphere, cheap jump scares (like zombies grabbing you through a window), and its originality in gameplay. It really was a game series that made you rely on item management and planning ahead, not dropping hundreds of zombies with an overpowered gun. Maybe it's just me, but it'd be cool if they had an action based side series or whatever, but still had a horror series running. Dead Space, despite me not finding it the slightest bit scary, proved that horror games sell. Heck, the remake of the first game sold quite well and was loved by everyone. Why not continue that and expand upon the horror roots? But sadly, like all companies, sales are what influence their decisions, and RE 5 did sell well, so why bother changing the formula? Ever since Mikami left, the series went from amazing to meh for me.

It's really funny how easy of a fucking cash grab it would be to remake RE2 or even port it to the DS or something. It's usually cited as everyone's favorite Resident Evil, so... why the fuck not just pull a Square Enix here guys? Seri-fucking-iously
The best thing they could do would make an RE 1 type remake for RE 2 and 3. I would be so happy if they did that. And it would honestly sell well, because it worked so great with other Capcom rereleases. Street Fighter II, Bionic Commando, etc all had a remake and it worked fantastically.
