Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children = 9/10

So, I finally got around to watching this last night and I wasn't too terribly disappointed. I've had a rather weird relationship with FF7 for a long while. I respect what the game has done and don't mind it as a good RPG, but I cannot stand the fanatical love and devotion that this game has by the fans has kind of ruined it for me. It took me until last year when I beat it to look past it and just take the game itself as a whole.

For the movie, the 'Final Fantasy' is obviously the best part. The characters are badass. The references and music are a good enough reason to watch the film. The plot is rather thin and it kind of feels like an excuse to show the movie.

The main part of the movie are the action scenes. They take up about 70 Minutes of the 100 Minute film. At the beginning, they are awesome and great. By the end, the wow factor is done and they don't jump off the screen as much. It really begins to feel like one long cutscene. The characters are a bit thin especially if you have never played the games.

If you have played and enjoyed Final Fantasy VII or just a fan of crazy Japanese action scenes, then you should watch it. The movie is pretty damn good and worth your time to watch it!

Campy, corny but really entertaining. Liam Neeson's Qui Gon Jinn 2.0

Saw a couple of movies about 2 weeks ago, never got around to posting:

Avengers: 9/10. I went it with low expectations due to so many big names being involved in one movie but was blown away. Batman, I have faith in you but you're going to have to really impress me to be the best movie of the summer.

Snow White and the Huntsman: 7.5/10. Again, went in with low expectations as my prettier half dragged me to it but it was enjoyable. Dragged on a bit leading up to the climax but it had a little something for everyone.

Rock of Ages: 5/10

To me, it was some kind of musical with 80's rock music in it. It could have been better.

ParaNorman

9/10

Animation in this was stellar. I loved the art direction in this one as well, great use of color in each scene. Sucks that the academy is so boner over Pixar, because this definitely should've beat out Brave for Best Animated Feature.

Evil Dead = 9.5 /10

It's that good. It does the original justice. If you haven't seen it yet, I suggest that you watch it.

John Carter.

Man, this is tough. It's like this...for enjoyment purposes, it gets a 9/10. It had great action, the chick was smokin' hot, the dog was cool, the special effects were top notch, and it was really fun to sit there, eat pizza and watch.

As far as being a good movie, it gets like a 5/10. It tried to do too much in too short of time. It felt like there were major story elements cut out to trim the movie down to a reasonable time. There was a lot of back story missing for all the main players.

I think if there was a 3.5 hour long directors cut of this movie rather than the 2 hour theatrical release it would score much higher. It just felt rushed.
