Forum rules

Rules

1. All normal forum rules apply.

2. NO JOKES! This isn't the topic for funny pictures or wise ass remarks.

3. Serious topics need to be well thought out when written, they also need to have well thought out replies. Please try to write more than a single sentence. Back up your opinion with facts or something else.

4. Keep a cool and calm head, especially about things such as politics, gay rights, religion, etc. People are allowed to have differing opinions than you, please don't view them as personal attacks, please don't start any sort of major drama or get all offended here. In the end, we're all friends still.

5. Use common sense when posting in here, which simply means ask yourself if this is something really worth posting, are you intentionally being mean to someone, if your topic is ridiculously controversial (IE. Baby Eating), are you accidentally bashing Christianity on Easter Day, etc.

6. In your posts, please try to clarify whether you're speaking based on fact or personal experiences as it will lead to less misunderstandings. Please do not state opinions as if they were facts without proof to back it up.

7. NO DRUNK POSTING.

Failure to comply with any of these rules (additional rules may be added in the future as needed) will result in a warning or perhaps a banning from the 'Why So Serious?' sub-forum. The severity of the punishment works in tandem with the severity of your actions.

Just saw this and came back online to post this same vid...

Not to be corny, but humanity seriously has to unite to take out pure evil like men like Kony.

There is an untouched group of celebrities that are followed by tons of people. Internet reviewers (most likely they already know) and also video game developers and companies as a whole. Do everything you can within your power to spread the word, but we should also be targeting this untouched group of people. We are gamers, and we follow and look up to these people, so we should start a campaign of our own to make sure that this group of people are aware (if they aren't already) and to make sure that they make a statement about it.

- The SpoonyOne
- The Angry Video Game Nerd
- That Guy With The Glasses
- Egoraptor
- Screwattack
- Angry Joe
- Microsoft
- Bioware
- EA
- Nintendo
- Sony

And tons more.

A huge list of online personalities and game companies should be reached. Social networking is obviously a very helpful tool in sharing information.

Anyone with a twitter or facebook or youtube account should ask these people or companies to spread the word and make a statement on "Kony 2012".

After posting the original video I've also seen these arguments against IC too, and I definitely believe that it isn't a good idea anymore to support the Invisible Children organisation, but I at the very least still find it great to see so much support behind raising awareness on Kony's crimes, and while he is one of so many more warlord's in Africa, to see mass media covering the issue seriously is at the very least something great to come out of this movement since it exploded a few days ago, and we can at least hope he is brought to justice, but from what many of the counter-arguments have stated, Kony is likely not even in Uganda anymore and isn't in a good state of health either.

Basically, people are fucking idiots and sheep. They'll follow pretty words without questioning the actual issue or knowing all the facts. This "movement" is already doomed because this explosion was due to a bunch of fucking morons who have no idea what the actual issue is other than what they saw in a thirty minute scam video by a very questionable organization.

The entire "movement" is made up of these idiots:

Fuck this cause, they're a Non-Profit that can afford shit they call the "action kit" with trackers and a geotagging system, very well made HD videos, and a big ass Social Media campaign. That's probably worth atleast 100k.

There's something wrong when a so-called "Non-Profit" spends more money on advocacy than the actual aid they're preaching.

Plus, they want our money and our tax money (sending troops to Uganda durr) too!?

Fucking Hipsters.

"I support arresting this man. I support people putting pressure on the international community to arrest him. I think the idea of everyone coming together to show support on an issue is a great thing! It never hurts to be informed. If people can show support and achieve something, without it being at the expense of starting turmoil in a country that is not our own, then why not? It all goes back to international relations. I am not against the campaign, I just think people should have a better understanding of what they are supporting. Never hurts to educate and learn about both sides of an issue or story. If anything, it may help support your stance on an issue."

My argument on facebook. How did I Do?

You're not actually informed.

You don't think people aren't already trying to take this bastard down? Plus, he's in an entirely different country now and has been for years. People are being played like suckers by the millions over misinformation. Also, were was this massive "movement" for every fucking other African warlord who does the exact same shit that number in the dozens if not hundreds? This entire thing sickens me because people don't understand a fucking thing about it and don't realize they're being scammed by some douchebag who's using good will or rather sense of having good will to get paid.

I thought you blocked me.

Anyways, I posted that to get people from commenting on my original post. I don't mind what it represents, which in my opinion is people rallying support for a cause. You don't have to support Invisible Children in order to try and make a difference. You can do some research, I'm sure there are plenty of charities that raise funds for these sorts of issues.

Anyways, here is my original post:

"There are two sides to every story. Yes, Joesph Kony is a very bad man who has done terrible things, but it hardly seems like the effort and large scale campaigns are worth it at this time. First of all, the 30 minute video that went viral was filmed in 2003, and in 2005 the ICC sent out warrants for the arrest of 5 LRA leaders. Most regions of Uganda have been free from terror and the LRA have dramatically decreased by a large amount. This isn't due to the "Invisible Children" group, it's because the ICC and Ugandan military have intercepted. The "Invisible Children" group want a bill to pass to allow the American government to militarize the region. Why bring more turmoil to an area of the world that already seems to be doing a lot better now. Yes I believe Joseph Kony should be arrested, but let the Ugandan Military deal with it.

Given the facts, it's clear that the man who started the campaign has his heart set in the right place, but I can't help but think that he is trying to sensationalize the entire ordeal. The LRA aren't nearly as active as they were years ago and this sort of thing has been happening (and is happening) all over Africa for centuries. Why isn't this kind of awareness being brought up for Blood Diamonds, or pirates in Somalia attacking citizens? How about the widespread AIDS epidemic and famine? The world is shit.

I am in no way saying people should ignore this, I'm just saying it's being sensationalized and doesn't deserve this kind of widespread attention. Joseph Kony will either die of old age or be arrested and tried by the ICC. Do some research, there are far more pressing issues in the world that need people's attention and effort."

Most of the jokes I hear keep coming back to this.

But in all seriousness, this pretty much kills any sense of credibility Invisible Children and the Kony2012 movement had left after all the criticism and disproving of the video's statements, especially given how horribly out of date the video's information is apparently (like six years out of date)

It raised awareness but then something like this happens and suddenly it's reduced to meme status and the criticism of anyone on the internet who has an opinion.

Pfffft, I was supporting Invisible Children before it was cool.

But seriously, when I was in college, I did a lot of work and organizing with them in '08 and '09.

While I'm glad that Kony finally has become a household name in America (he already was in the rest of the world) and I'm proud of the president and our military for undertaking missions to "get" Kony, I agree with Bill Maher in that it's not enough for us just to recognize he is a problem. He needs to be stopped and us and the world community need to make it our goal to get Kony as soon as we can. Write letters, demonstrate, make yourself heard, get involved. Shit, now that the weather is nice, me and all the other protesters are taking to the streets again. Join us?

Danimal, I normally agree with you, but you've forced my hand as of now.

Do you really think the United States should be the guys going after Kony? We're already wearing ourselves thin with all the conflicts we've become involved on and it's been a big drain on our economy. Yes, what this man is doing is horrible, but he's far from the only warlord in Africa and you seem to live in a reality where you think no one is bothering to go after him. On top of this, we need to stop giving a fuck if we're going to survive as a country, at least for a few years to fix the mess that Bush brought with him.

Plus, I'd say this entire movement just makes the situation worse, spreading a shit ton of misinformation and ignoring all the other warlords. Turning Kony into public enemy number one just makes it seem like he's the only problem in the eyes of the idiot public.

And on top of all this, you're trusting Invisible Children? A group that barely gives money to the cause they say they're raising awareness for? You know, pumping that cash into Religious propaganda and Christian camps they advertise on their channel? How is that helping with the problem of African warlords? And why would we trust a group with information six years out of date? Sounds like they don't care that much if they got the most basic information on the issue wrong.

Why bother protesting when the "cause" just makes the problem worse?
