Well I pretty much beat most of the other games I got for xmas, so this past weekend I decided it was time to dive into Skyrim. Never played an Elder Scrolls game before but... shit... I know what I'll be doing up until and after Mass Effect 3 comes out. Only played maybe 4 hours and I'm completely hooked.

you decide what build you're going to go for? a mage build? Stealthy? Barbarian style 2h build?

I didn't really choose too well at the start.. so my points were spread out.. But I went for a stealth / bow skill. So I sneak around shooting things for 3x dmg a lot.

I'm thinking more of a stealthy character, good with a bow but also good with single arm weapons and shields. My character is already really good at blocking and single-arm weapons so I might just stick with it and get better at archery. My sneaking's already pretty good too as it plays pretty similar to the Fallout games so it's easy for me to get into.

To people that have beat the game. Do the Companion quests ever end? That is after you do all the main ones for them. Or are they just for making money and can pretty much be repeated over and over?

All of the "guilds" have repeatable radiant quests that don't advance the story themselves but give you money and may unlock later quests. Like in the Thieves guild,
Spoiler
you can do several different jobs and over time you will unlock special missions for the guild.

Well I've been playing Skyrim for a month now. Level 34 specializing in one handed weapons, blocking, heavy armor, archery and sneaking... which is weird with heavy armor. I've barely touched the main story. I'm just doing guild missions for achievements and walking the world, entering random caves and dungeons looking for loot. Loving the game but I've been playing it for so long that it's almost time for a break I think. Thankfully Mass Effect 3 is coming at the perfect moment so I'll jump right back into Skyrim once I'm done. My character's getting almost too strong as I can typically blow through most enemies now without too much problem, even dragons. Maybe I just haven't found an extremely hard dungeon or quest yet.

@MrBlack Sneaking is over powered. I started off as a jack-of-all trades type character and had a tough time in some dungeons with like draugr deathlords in them, but when I changed over to primarily stealth with the benefits of mid-level magic and combat, everything died.

That's pretty much exactly what happened to me. Found the draugr deathlords almost impossible at the start, applied most of my skill points into one handed, blocking, heavy armor and archery. Now those damn deathlords barely scratch me. I really haven't applied too many point to stealth, but I do sneak around all the time time it just keeps leveling up. I also barely use magic beyond flames and healing. Haven't applied any points to them at all. I prefer melee combat.

I would advise putting some time into magic though. Nothing major if you don't want, its just that there's some really handy spells in there.

I'm a sword/archer type guy with 100 sneak but magic has saved my ass more than once.

Yeah, I should drop some into healing... I guzzle down a ton of potions in really heavy battles.

Ever since I got Mehrune's Razor and Ebony Mail I've switched to using Invisibility and sneaking up behind people getting nothing but one hit kills, nothing looks cooler than turning visible in that kill cam.

I prefer getting stealth kills with my bow. Keep those assholes at a distance! The witches in the Companions quest never even saw me coming... all 5 of them.

don't over work smithing, I spent a good while churning out iron daggers to get my skill up then farmed me some daedric hearts, then everything in the game just sort of started laying down and dying for me, I am thinking of starting over and only using gear I loot / find / buy and avoiding making my own gear as it leads to being way too OP way too fast.

Now that I've finished ME3 I'm on the fence: Do I get sucked right back into Skyrim or do I finish getting my platinum trophy for Infamous 2? If I put Skyrim back into by Xbox I won't be able to stop playing it...
