So, Higurashi (released on DVD in the states under When They Cry by the now dead GENEON lable) was originally based on a "Sound Game", a visual novel that focused more on the story, the surroundings, and didn't involve hooking up with any of the girls (unlike AIR, KANNON, CLANNAD, Fate/Stay Night, etc.) It was created in a guys garage (literally!) by 07th Expansion. It was sold at Anime Conventions in Japan and its brilliant script and horrifying moments made it an instant favorite, which lead to a manga adaptation, three Anime seasons (the third one coming either late this year or early 09) and a very successful live-action film.

So, discuss the wonderful world of Hinamizawa! And don't forget to pay your respects to Oyashiro-Sama!

UNF! UNF! UNF!

That's the sound of me humping this thread.

This anime totally got overshadowed by all the Death Note crap everywhere. :(

Definitely worth checking out if you haven't yet. It's like... looking through a multi-faceted gemstone at a storyline. You have all these various paths and points, and it almost is like watching a choose your own adventure book. You see all these paths and points and how they would play out under various circumstances with only a few key events remaining the same, and then you're more or less supposed to solve the puzzle and mystery behind a mysterious chain of murders.

It's very awesome, and the first 4 episodes (the first story arc) still creeps me out to this day.

One of my favorite things to do is to re-watch the show and pinpoint EXACTLY where things fall to shit XD

Duuuhhrrrr why watch Kaiji when you can have NA-RU-TO.

Why is it that good anime with brilliant stories are always over-looked in favor of mindless 500+ episode bore fest? <_<

The feelings mutual. :-D

Though I'll admit I do enjoy One Piece every once in a while. Its the Anime equivilent of Jackass: Its not deep, its not smart, but it sure is fun to watch...Shit are we off topic.

So, yeah, you get ahold of the live movie yet? Man does it look sweet!

Oh, yeah!

07th Expansion's newest game, Umineko no Naku Koro ni, has been picked up for Animation! I've read some of the manga, and its just as creepy and bizzare and Higurashi, except this is (believe it or not) even more violent! :-? What a head trip!

Indeed, but I think it's only going to be me and you discussing it. Feel free to write your heart out about it in your first post. Inform the masses!

There are only TWO seasons right now:

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni & Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai

All the episodes should be in # order. Most Arcs are 4 episodes long, but occasionally there is a 5 or 6 episode long arc. There is also a HUGE 12 episode arc at the end of the 'kai' season. Also, there is an OVA that happens at the end of the first season.

26ish per season. There is a third season in the works. Also, a Live Action movie of the first 4 episodes you just watched.

Well there goes my weekend >D

3 an hour

54ish episodes give or take. 18 hours to watch them all. I've done it before >D.

I find this anime very interesting. At first I was like its boring, and then it suddenly got extremely interesting.

Spoiler
Specially when that rena chick went all crazy when he was like your lying. Scared the shit out of me.

What's the live action movie called? And is it any good?

Check Wikipedia for details. I can't remember it's exact name, but chances are you can find it on the net & subbed by now.

As unoriginal as it is, the film is simply called "Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni"!

However, recently, two DS games have been released! Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni: Tatari

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrtfXfE7 ... re=related

Supposedly these are side-stories that flesh out some of the other arcs, while also introducing an entirely new cast and story-line which is freakin' awesome.
