The Death of Game Retals

Hollywood is gone, Blockbuster is on the way out, and when was the last time you rented something from a supermarket or anyplace else? It has become a lot harder to check out games without buying or barrowing them. I finally caved and signed up for online mail order rentals for games. Got me to thinking about all the good times and thrill of actually going to a brick and mortar store and renting a game.

So anyone miss the excitement and surprise of looking at all the rental games and selecting one not knowing if your weekend would be filled with pleasure or pain? Ever lose, break, or steal a rental game? I'm sure everyone has at least one good rental story.

I would like you to talk about game company shenanigans.

What brings this up is the conversation in the Mass Effect topic.

As I brought forward, the Ps3 version is getting a bunch of the DLc ready on the disc, plus new stuff such as new romances, a new character, etc. Even more DLC down the road. now I know this is out so the PS3 users could get into the game. (Yes there will be a part in the beginning to explain ME1 and allow you to make the game changing decisions). Thus They can release Me3 on BOTH consoles.

But anyone with half a brain can easily see this is just a ploy so they can force people who own both systems to buy the game a second time. But what's worse? Obviously they are going to release this version on the 360 as a GOTY Edition so they make MORE money.

That is kind of annoying. They should just release a huge patch and that is all you should have to pay for and keep your old copy.

Problem is a lot of company pulls stupid stunts like this.

How about a topic about reboots and remakes of classic games. Kirby, NBA Jam, Medal of Honor, Sonic 4, Donkey Kong Country and Goldeneye just came out recently and Super Mario All Stars Wii is coming out next month... reboots and remakes are definitely the theme of 2010.

There are actually a shitload of titles due out next year that fall under this category I'm psyched for:

Bionic Commando Rearmed 2
Rush'n Attack: Ex-Patriot
Spatterhouse
Hard Corps: Uprising
Mortal Kombat 9
Twisted Metal

I think comparing the good and bad First Person RPG's from the old days. Anything from Wizardry to Shadowgate. I recall a game titled Arcana for the SNES and remember it being really easy to navigate and crazy hard, but not too hard making for an amazing game. But then I remember games like Eye of the Beholder for SNES where everything was just too cryptic and I found navigation to be such a pain in the ass!

Anyhow, you probably won't do something that boring, but I thought I'd share the interest. Happy Topic Hunting!

Not sure if this has been talked about before but the guys kind of touched on it last week when talking about which takes more skill Halo or CoD but my topic suggestion would be Pro Gaming or E-Sports. What are their thoughts on this? Should playing video games be considered a sport? Do they think anybody could become a pro gamer with enough training? Which genre in general takes the most skill? RTS? FPS? Fighter?

The next gen of gaming

*looks into crystal ball*

Wii U is coming, PS4 is confirmed, the next Xbox is likely in the works. What will the next generation of console games bring to the table?

3D?
Tablets?
Cloud gaming?
Bigger focus on casual or hardcore?
Return of old franchises or new IP properties?

When will it be here? How much will it cost? What new games would you like to see on more powerful hardware?
