Why? *Ahem*

Also, it finally gets that part of my soul that imploded when I was expecting battlebots to be robots fighting, but their "robots" were toasters with buzzsaws fighting a pneumatic hammer on a stripped down lawnmower.

Thanks to Darkseid, which I never thought I'd say without fear of Omega-beam death.

honestly, the first trailer didn't do it justice. I honestly thought it was mega campy.
But then again...it is campy, but it looks like a movie that would be awesome in 3D.

I saw it Wednesday at a pre-screening event.
It was ultra stereotypical. Extremely stupid. And a good amount of fun.

There's a severe lack of robot fighting in the movie, though, only about 1/3rd of the flick has it. The bulk of the time is focused on Hugh's ex boxing career and his abandoned son.

It's really not worth the price of admission, but if you gotta see it, make sure you pay as little as possible.

Also, if you don't want to know what happens in the movie ... stop watching the trailers <_<

Is this movie based on the Twilight Zone episode "Steel"? Take a look at it if you can find it, I believe it's on Netflix.

The history is actually pretty interesting.

The original story is by Richard Matheson. It was called Steel. It was adapted into that episode of Twilight Zone, (very) loosely adapted into this movie, and was also the basis of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots.

(Matheson actually wrote a few Twilight Zone episodes, based on his stories and originals alike)

The dude has influenced more multimedia than people realize. (And he's still publishing!)

So that's 100% more awesome robots fighting than battlebots... got it. I'll catch it when I can.

It's the closest I am going to get to a Battletech/Mechwarrior movie in the next 100 years so I'll take it.

Robot Jox doesn't count.

Basewars would be slick. Also, I thought this movie looked better then Battleship, which isn't saying much.

But Battleship looks so awesomely bad! And I'll totally watch Real Steel when it's on F/X in like the middle of the afternoon, like what, eight months from now :rabbid:

I have the need for some more stupid fun movies to go along with my pretentious side, so I shall have a place for Real Steel in my life :P

When it's on TV or a friend gets it on DVD, clearly...:P

Wow, third free screening listing in my area, not related to a contest. They must want to push this hard.

Anyone who's interested, go to filmmetro.com and look at your city (or one near you) to see the listings. It's a handy site, they never have contests it's just open seating.

You can see a list of potential screenings here: http://advancescreenings.com/movie/real_steel/ (They pool from multiple sources)

I also wish they'd gone for the obvious Robot Jox tie-in. But I'm glad to see Matheson's work still being adapted as well.
