Rules

1. All normal forum rules apply.

2. NO JOKES! This isn't the topic for funny pictures or wise ass remarks.

3. Serious topics need to be well thought out when written, they also need to have well thought out replies. Please try to write more than a single sentence. Back up your opinion with facts or something else.

4. Keep a cool and calm head, especially about things such as politics, gay rights, religion, etc. People are allowed to have differing opinions than you, please don't view them as personal attacks, please don't start any sort of major drama or get all offended here. In the end, we're all friends still.

5. Use common sense when posting in here, which simply means ask yourself if this is something really worth posting, are you intentionally being mean to someone, if your topic is ridiculously controversial (IE. Baby Eating), are you accidentally bashing Christianity on Easter Day, etc.

6. In your posts, please try to clarify whether you're speaking based on fact or personal experiences as it will lead to less misunderstandings. Please do not state opinions as if they were facts without proof to back it up.

7. NO DRUNK POSTING.

Failure to comply with any of these rules (additional rules may be added in the future as needed) will result in a warning or perhaps a banning from the 'Why So Serious?' sub-forum. The severity of the punishment works in tandem with the severity of your actions.

Just out of curiosity, with some of our younger members and those from foreign countries, are people actually educated about STDs, protection, etc. and all that good stuff? Also, for everyone, do you feel it should be a personal thing or something handled through schools or what?

I remember sex ed... I think the schools do a pretty good job. Most parents cover things that the school doesn't and vice versa so ya I'm for it.

I got sex ed in class.

I think schools and parents should both talk about it. One's more personal while the other is more direct. And you need both sides to get a good understanding of it.

I always thought sex ed was important because it's a huge part of life... and what is school except learning how to be a contributing human being. Every animal in the world has it's version of "school," we've just refined it as a species to include all the complexities that come with being a conscious being in a radically changing world of our own making. Think about where we were in the world a decade ago... now think back to twenty years ago... now a hundred years ago. The last Civil War vet died in 1951. Here was a man that saw the birth of electricity, cars, human flight, radio, telephones, television, motion pictures, and eventually the atomic age which is a cloud that hangs over us and every generation to come. Just imagine the what the world will look like from our own death beds. Basically what I'm trying to say here is that we need schooling to prepare for the future not only in the macro sense but for our own personal future. Where else are kids going to learn about sex as a function of life? TV? The internet? Parents? I'd rather it be in a clinical professional manner where there are also educated on birth control, risks, and preferences. Children seem to be sacrosanct in this country but I think we need to stop treating children like... well, children. Puberty seems to be a good time to alert kids to the idea of sex because they will naturally coming around to that idea anyway. School shouldn't just be a place to learn math and about dead famous people, it should be a place where you learn how to grow. I think the same goes for nutrition too. Sex, nutrition, and physical health are all areas that are just as important as math, reading, and history and they should be given equal weight as far as I'm concerned. Sex shouldn't be taboo, it should just be part of life.

So in conclusion, schools should teach 'bout fuckin... and I'm hella high right now.

Actually, common sense after watching some regular TV that doesn't show everything.

Oh, and my friend showing me the uncut version of Euro-Trip. That was a big help with the basic mechanics.

Yeah, but sex ed isn't about like actually having sex... that part you're supposed to figure out yourself. Sex ed is supposed to teach you about how to be responsible about sex and what the biological reason is for sex and so on.

Yeah, had to get that info from my mom and TV.

We just didn't have much sex education down here for some reason.

We had a health class that taught this stuff, they also taught us about "puberty" and other such. Usually it was taught by the Phys Ed teacher.

It's just scary sometimes to think people still don't understand how STDs work and how you can & can't get pregnant, etc.

My first experience with in-school sex-ed was in 5th Grade (still wonder if that's normal or not?) although that wasn't so much about sex and such but rather more about puberty and stuff like that, so boy and girl "naughty bits" were discussed but not so much the diseases and other such things.
Basically all it was was a couple of classes piled into the same room and we watched a video then I believe there was Q and A after. We then got a little booklet that had all the info and such from the video.

Then in 6th grade during a class (I forget which one, may have been English actually) the health teacher came in and took all the girls out of the room to go to another room to watch a video while we boys stayed watched our own.

I don't remember anything in 7th grade but in 8th we had a period of a few days in health class that dealt with pregnancy and the prevention thereof including watching the whole "miracle of life" video (which I was out sick for) learning about the effects of drug use during pregnancy and capping off with the good ole assignment where you take home this doll that cries until you stick this key into its back and hold it there until it coos and has sensors so it can track if the head ever snapped backwards or anything. I remember I got a 98. Yay me?
I'm positive that diseases came up in there too but all my more clear memories of STD discussion came throughout High School.

So yeah, essentially 8 years of on and off sex-ed for me.

Our social teacher was too embarrased to teach us about sex.

From what I can gather the pee stick goes in the mouth and plants the seed in a girls stomach. That IS where babies come from isn't it?

Spoiler
Basically we were taught in school that STDs are bad. Use a condom. Also don't get teen pregnanted.

Sex Ed in my school was a joke. My teacher would give half info and not all of it. For example a guy can only ejaculate while having an erection. That's correct however half the class was scared that when they got one they would just randomly orgasm and were scared. He also had a question box where you could ask a question without being known. He refused to answer half of them and the ones he did were like "what's a boob feel like" and he would say "kinda like a nerf ball".

Guess it didn't help he was also the gym teacher lol.

If I ever get asked what a boob feels like I will give them that answer. I laughed so hard when I read this...
