The 3DS is going to get a dramatic price cut soon, but if you bought a 3DS before the price cut is put in place then you'll be getting a ton of free games.

In August the 3DS will drop its price to about 169 in the US, but if you bought yours before that, you can go to the eshop and download 10 select NES virtual console games and 10 select GBA virtual console games for FREE!

I know Nintendo is generous with giving away stuff for free but that's alot of free stuff. Good call, Nintendo. I tip my hat to thee.

Trying to stimulate the slumping 3DS sales by cutting the price at this early stage in it's cycle? Concerning.

It's going to be on sale at Walmart, Future Shop and Best Buy for $200 next week. I haven't heard anything on a price drop here in Canada beyond the sale I just stated though, but I would expect that we would be getting one too seeing as how Europe, Australia and Japan are getting one.

If you're eligible you can actually download your ten NES games right now. Go to the eshop and go to Your Downloads. The ten NES games will be there, select "redownload" for each one.

I'm doing it right now.

You can tell they have no framework for giving away games to select people ... there was no systems update prior to this happening, so it looks like they just went through and marked everyone who qualified as owners of these titles already.

It makes it rather annoying to get to the area ... ten times. (Menu > Settings > Your Downloads ... every time)

Oh well.

They didn't include the save state feature for these games like they did for the Game Boy games. Which is weird.

Actually, all of the NES games we're getting are going to be released on the eShop to buy. These versions will have updated software including online features. I'm assuming that this is when the save state feature will be implemented... which is fine with me because we get to update to the full version when they come out.

The thing I don't like is that they didn't edit them for the 3DS in the slightest, you still get the "Hold Reset while you turn the power off" thing in Legend of Zelda, and the controls for Mario are all fucked up due to the fact that A is still jump.
I can't even play Mario on my 3DS just because I cannot get used to that at all.

They aren't going to go in and edit the text but yeah being able to remap the buttons would have been nice. It isn't a dealbreaker you just need to stick with it and your brain rewires itself.

I never found that jarring at all. In fact that's easier for me because I was raised on the NES and I always remember pressing the A button on the NES controller lets me jump, so putting it on the 3DS with the same controls works just the same.

When you've been playing Super Mario World and NSMB for so long, it fucks with you.
