As it was a joke.

But turning a legitimate thread into an open ground for jokes just sidetracks it and leads to it being closed.

You seem to take this tech support thread on a personal level.
I don't. I just respond when there's something I know about. If I don't know anything or can't find anything useful I don't say anything. Which has happened plenty of times.

if you find a question 'beneath your level' and it can be solved with a simple query, but you don't feel like being a broken record and saying "Google it" over and over... Just don't reply.
I don't think anyone's questions are "beneath me". I'm not some elitist prick. That's just the wrong way to look at what happened in the PSP thread, frankly.
Not only do I not say, "Google It" over and over again, but Joel is a unique case. The guy would constantly (as in the more than 20 times) asks these kinds of questions. And, yes, SPECIFICALLY to me. He has on multiple occasions come into the IRC channel and called me out to help him with an issue that is, literally, a very easy thing to find using a search engine. He literally just doesn't want to do it himself. As a result, he really pisses me off sometimes.
The guy flagrantly abused the help I offered on multiple occasions.

no one HAS to respond. What I'm saying is, I agree no one's hired to do this, but people don't need you, or ANYONE ELSE for that matter, jumping on their balls to google everything they want to post. (now people calling you out specifically for something that's easily looked up, I understand getting upset.)
In the case of Joel, which is the ONLY case you could be referring to, he abused the help that I offered previously to an appalling degree, and yeah, when he shifted from asking me in IRC to just making threads about it, I decided to bust his balls a bit while I helped him out. (I know he didn't notice, but I still helped him out)
I don't really think that's really illegitimate.

This thread was started as a place for people to bring their tech issues, so it's no surprise to me that they feel more comfortable coming here than they do going out into the scary interweb. NO ONE PERSON is expected to be the only person to respond.
Like I said, I think you're a kick ass guy and super-intelligent and don't really want to come off as offensive or upsetting, but I had to say my piece.
Like I said, I don't mind helping people. Even if it's something that's findable using a search engine, I still don't mind helping, I understand that even if you find answers, you may not understand them: that's fine, ask away.
I don't view the tech questions as "mine" and I don't feel obligated to answer anyone's questions. Joel was a specific case of someone being abusive to help offered. I don't think I'm above anyone here, and if you feel that way, that says much more about you than I.
I'll be frank: if this is generally what people think of me here, then I don't really see a point in sticking around, regardless of tech. related issues.
It just shows that people in the community really have no idea what I'm like (even in an e-personality sense) and have decided I'm some sort of stereotypical elitist tech prick. In which case it's just not worth having to deal with anyone who has that kind of mindset about me.
