Haven't been on the forums in a long time, and am looking forward to jumping back into it!

anyways..

After 15 long years since I first played Zelda II, I finally beat it! and legit on my original NES.
I have beaten every Zelda game except that until this point. It is such a difficult but satisfying game
that dosent get the credit it deserves!

So fellow heroes and villains,
What game have you beat recently that either took you forever to finish or that you finally got around to finishing?

Ninja Gaiden II... I finally got the best of that game.

But back on Zelda II, I loved that game so much, I even loved every game like it. Rambo was a blast (fuck the Angry Video Game Nerd, that game was awesome) but Faxanadu is amazing. You know, come to think of it... I don't think I ever beat Faxanadu. I need to dust that off and get to it!

Zelda II is the shit. Love that game. Hard as balls but so satisfying to beat. My brother and I got it one xmas and I remember my dad saying he wouldn't buy us any new NES games until we beat Zelda. We grinded the hell out of that game and when we finally beat it I don;t think 2 kids have screamed for excitement as much as we did. Underappreciated game that people need to try.

Anyways, a game I never beat was Batman for NES. I can make it to the last level no problem but dear god those gears... those fucking gears... I should throw that in again and give it another go.

When you say you've beaten every Zelda game...are you counting the CD-I games? Because they were officially licensed and in my opinion still more playable than Ocarina *not trolling*

Faxanadu is great for it's atmosphere alone.

Okay Braky, this is the first time an opinion has actually been wrong.

And you just made me defend OoT. That hurt my soul.

*Tilts head to the side* I dunno... I really enjoyed Ocarina of Time and never had a problem with it and I just don't see the criticism. Please please please, Braky, I want a text wall on why you dislike Ocarina of Time.

Seriously though, I've just...Never been able to get into Ocarina of Time. I hate the controls, I hate its over yappiness and the fact that it feels like all I'm doing is clicking through dialogue half the time (and my favorite game is fucking Monkey Island), and the camera makes me want to kill myself, and just...Everything about it, every time I've tried to play it, I haven't lasted past going inside that stupid tree.

And it's not just because I hate the N64 controller. I've tried it on the Gamecube also. I just don't find the controls agreeable...and still the camera angle. The camera was one of my big issues with most of the N64 games as well, particularly Mario 64.

I think I just hate the N64 honestly.

I will say, given the chance, I'll try the 3DS version because it does seems quite a bit more controllable.

But yeah, I played the CD-I Zeldas longer than Ocarina at this classic game shop that's in my town and I honestly didn't mind them THAT much...Sure there are some maddening decisions made, but I guess I just prefer maddening old-school games sometimes. At least they were cheesy enough that I had to keep playing to see the next ridiculous thing.

It's not so "recently" anymore but it took me 17 years to beat Castlevania. I got the game when it first came out in 1987, and it wasn't until October 2004 that I finally beat it. Granted I did go a long stretch of years without playing it; before 2004 I think the last time I had played it was around 1996 or 1997. I believe I started playing it again because earlier in the year I finally finished both N64 Castlevania games after not touching them for about 5 years.

Geez I'm old.

Wow Braky that was intense, the camera and controls on the most fluid games of the 90's? I'm speechless really.

I'm not hatin' or anything I'm just surprised. If you hated those games, I'm curious what you'll say about Superman 64. OoT has 1% dialogue of any Final Fantasy IMO.

Within the past year or so I've managed to beat Crystalis, Dragon Warrior 1, 2 and 3, Castlevania, and Double Dragon for NES. Some of those were screaming at me to finally finish them off. I also did a run through of both Duck Tales 2 and Rescue Rangers 2 both of which felt very much unfinished.

I had a PS1. Dual Analog = most fluid of the generation, no exceptions. That n64 controller is still an ungodly pile of mutant shit every time I use it, which isn't terribly common. I also haven't finished a Final Fantasy but I find what gameplay there is to be more engaging for the most part.

I also own Superman 64 and have legitimately played it more than Ocarina. Once I got past the rings it wasn't quite as monotonous...but holy shit does it get IMPOSSIBLE.

You can just come out and say it, you know.

And I love you.

By far the hardest game I ever played as a kid. I had Dragon Warrior but never Zelda 1 so I didnt really understand what was going on in Zelda II. It was very confusing to me. Luckily Im able to play it now and throughly enjoy it.

I'm gonna add you to my list of heroes.

But I agree with you there, I played Superman 64 a lot in the day, there's this part where you need to rescue Lois before this dude and chick in green kill her...it's impossible to get passed it.

Zelda II is underrated.

I recently beat A Nightmare on Elm St, which has been sitting for too long.

You all know my take on "Zelda 64."

Rambo is good.

Final Fantasy WAS good. Unless you're talking about the blacktual original Final Fantasy, which IS good.
