Darkseid's Big Ass Sig Contest Summer 2011 Voting!

Yes, it be voting day.

Eight groups this time and some voting guidelines:

-You may only pick one in each category but do not have to vote for all categories.
-NO VOTING FOR YOURSELF
-Try voting on more than one site and your votes are discounted
-For gift, you cannot vote for a sig made for you.
-Please explain your votes, just because it's funny or you like the character in it is not enough. Those votes will be discounted. The exception is the Pic Challenge, this group was made for laughs.
-I will be collecting votes until the 7th of June.

Movement - Kakeh WOULD get my vote but it's just WAY too huge of a file, not to mention I think After Effects is kind of hax despite how cool the sigs are. The simplicity of Aftershock43's gets my vote, it gets the job done while being subtle and not a giant animated movie.

Gift - Wulfon has my vote, although catreturns also had a nice submission. The colors of Wulfon's are great, tons of earth tones, etc. and once again simplicity. Even the beveling on Woodman works out well, which is surprising because Bevel/Emboss always seems like a big no-no.

Render - mscupcakes gets my vote simply for thinking out of the box. Way to go!

Swimsuit - mscupcakes gets my vote again, this time for having a clean signature with complimentary colors. My favorite part is how her font doesn't need a border or a glow or anything fancy in order to show up on the sig, it's good clean fun on a theme that would lead most minds into the gutter.

Yellow - CHAOS_FANTAZY gets an honorable mention. I'm such a sucker for pixel art, especially when it's trying to tell a story. Unfortunately for him though Wulfon came out of fucking nowhere and blew me away. Construction zone post-apocalyptia style all the way! The colors work amazing, the render is really slick, and the brushes/logos look very snazzy as well. All this signature is missing is some rivets.

Saturday Morning - Jesia would've had my vote if they ditched the background, unfortunately they didn't, so... Darkseid it is! Solid color choices, create a lucha-licious sig.

Blockbuster - Unfortunately I have to abstain, nothing really calls out to me. A lot of the non-movie sigs kind of confuse me... guess I didn't understand the theme. Either way, Wulfon gets an honorable mention, it looks the best of the bunch but something about it, and maybe it's the render quality or something, leaves you wanting. Sorry man.

Conflict - Darkseid had a solid idea but too much font. Too artsy fartsy for me man. Kami had a good concept as well but the motion blur rubs me the wrong way. When doing motion blur you should also blur the foreground a bit. Ultimately my vote goes to CHAOS_FANTAZY for another excellent pixel art that conveys conflict/story. Very awesome stuff. Another honorable mention to Wulfon though.

Only non-movie sig in Blockbuster was Steve's Portal 2 sig, which I allowed since it was a major hot that came out in the Summer and I forgot to specify movies. The comic ones in there use renders from the movies.

I probably don't deserve a vote at all lol. Aside from the moving sig, I did the rest in a half hour all together while everyone else put more thought and effort into their. That alone means they all deserve votes. I will vote later

I will give you credit though, the concept for the Iron Man sig is cool, even if it was just a video it'd be cool. The only thing that needs work is perhaps the carrier in the background and how it moves, etc.

I can't say I'm the biggest fan of Crono Trigger, but you don't have to be in order to see how much hard work and dedication went into this sig. The blur while shifting between the time periods really gives a feeling of fast movement through time. As well as the surprising accuracy with the dates.

Gift
I'm going to have to abstain from voting in this category because I would vote for Link and I'll tell you why. It's the most clean and polished sig I've seen, it actually looks like something you'd get off the Disney website or as some sort of bonus from buying the Cinderella DVD and joining the Official Fan Club. The transparency is so subtle it really makes the image pop without being in your face. The background really pulls everything together though, it really shows how a relatively simple background can be used effectively. The text is non-intrusive and the pink compliments the baby blue perfectly and ties the whole image together. Finally the "Bippity Boppity Boo" curves around her shoulder in the background seamlessly adding to the overall simplicity. In my opinion it seems as if this sig belongs in a set of Disney Princesses signatures and Link should make more of this style because I'd definitely use them and I'm sure others would too.

Pic Challenge
Superman 64
Not only is his sig the funniest, it's the cleanest too. He managed to take a relatively bad render and make it look sharp, especially with the shadow on the background. Speaking of the background, I just love that texture he used, it really feels like you could almost touch it. The only problem I have with it is the blur used in the second panel, I think it's just a bit too much although it does seems more realistic to have him out of focus in the foreground, but maybe not as extreme as it is.

The colour transition on Iron Man's armour at the explosion is seamless and gives the signature a definite central point. I really like the HUD style border he used, it adds a transparent border all around the image, really unique.
