I'm so happy this thread is revived, haha.

Also, the book that comes with the Alan Wake collector's edition is an interesting read. As is the art book.

Definitely, it's one of the few games that I played through again immediately after finishing it. I almost 100% completed it in 2 days O.O

There was a good walkthrough on GameFAQs that I used.

I just finished the last DLC episode last weekend, and I have to say I thought it was meh

Spoiler
I really didn't feel like there was any closure at all. I dunno it just leads into a sequel but I was hoping the story would at least come to some sort of end.

I totally get what you are saying. But I still liked It

Also, I just picked up the collector's edition. Can't wait to crack it open and beat the game a bunch more times! :rabbid:

Rooster Teeth also do a great guide, although they don't include the Nightmare mode manuscripts.

so a couple of days ago I was bored, and I decide to wander into the family video thats less then a block from my house and see what they have in stock that may entertain me, saw they had 3 copies of alan wake in and immediately thought of this thread and its recent resurgence and high praise and decided to pop down 4 bucks and rent it for a few days...

holy shit, this game is AMAZING , everything about it from the opening screen to the last words of dialog had me completely captivated, and the music in this game blew my socks off - and I dont usually like video game sound tracks, I took the game back the next day and drove to a town 35 miles over and bought the collectors edition ( closest one in stock to me ).

going to try and burn through the signal and the writer today, because after I pick up dragon age II tonight at midnight I imagine i am going to have a hard time putting that game down.

Word. Enjoy the bonus themes and clothing and stuff. I really enjoy the dashboard theme they have for this. :D

Late to the party but I am just slowly working my way through my rental queue

epic soundtrack is epic

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and the story. I'm a pretty big Stephen King fan so I definately saw that influence along with twin peaks and others.

Feel the gameplay was a bit lacking. It was unique, but fighting the same shadowy hillbillies over and over again got old. Didn't get all the collectables or play the DLC but I would still recomend it as a rental (or even a buy if you find it cheap.)

thanks fox... I finally got that song out of my head, and now its right back there :P

personally, I really enjoyed the game play a lot and loved the mechanics with the light , I do agree some more varied enemies would have been nice, maybe some dogs, or some shapeless abominations / monsters etc.

How cool would it have been to be walking through the forrest and you catch a giant shadow moving out of the corner of your eye. You turn around and put your flashlight on it and it is some giant shadowy create about the size of bigfoot that lets out an inhuman roar and starts chasing after you.

I dunno given the setting and story, they could have done a lot more here in terms of enemies. 90% of the encounters are against the same drunken hillibillies, I must have murdered half the population of the town. They throw in birds or a possesed object once in a blue moon, but they could have at least tried to mix things up more.

The bad guys did get repetitive, it would have been nice to have other types of enemies but I guess it was supposed to harken back to the city's mine and the flood and stuff.

The collectibles are surprisingly related to the story (as collectibles should be) and with the exception of a few they're all within your direct path of travel. Even though there were a lot of achievements, I rarely felt as if looking for them wasn't worth my time, except the Thermoses of course.

Played through it once when it came out. Then I lent it to a friend (who still has it). I think it's going to be a game I return to over the summer to beat to 100%.

The Writer DLC is only 280 Microsoft points right now. Even though I'm only on episode 3 and have the first DLC to play I picked it up at that price :D

Fox, I'll warn you right now. These DLC don't really do much to tighten up the story or answer any major questions. They do however add some interesting stages, trippy visuals (running across a giant typewriter as you fight monsters) and cool gameplay mechanics that aren't seen very often in the main game. That being said, only The Writer is on sale, BUT I'd suspect The Signal will go on sale again the next big excuse they have to discount stuff, I think it's been 50% off at least once or twice since the game's release.

Say what now Link? The first DLC in particular explained EVERYTHING about the end of the game!
