Well I've got my new PC up and running. Been all about Civ 5 at the moment, but am seriously open to suggestions at this point.

I like dungeon crawlers, Strategy games, RPGS, and Action Adventure games, but am willing to look into any suggestions. I've been trying to hit up review sites to pull some good suggestions from there, but I know from experience; when in doubt, take to the forums.

I should also add that I'm not looking for suggestions of Must-Play titles on the PC from all eras. I have a new machine with a massive video card that I want to utilize, not necessarily run to the max, but take advantage of definitely.

Hopping on Steam, I get overwhelmed and don't know what to buy! Suggest me some stuff yo.

(PS. I own the orange box on PC, so Half life, TF2 and Portal are there already.)

Well, you should download Alien Swarm anyway since it's free, and it's surprisingly fun!
I personally love L4D2, but if you have that already but like that sort of game then Killing Floor might be for you.
Audiosurf is sort of like Wipeout meets Rock Band, and is a pretty neat experience since you can use your own songs on it. Not sure if you're really into standard FPS games, but if you are you'll probably like Counter Strike: Source and Day Of Defeat: Source, they're both multiplayer only, one set modern day, the other is WW2.

Buy both. KF is a great zombie shooter that deserves your time and money (if you enjoy cooperative shooters that is). And with a pretty sweet leveling system it'll have you coming back. I've probably invested three times as many hours in KF than in L4D2.

Unreal Tournament 3 is also a great shooter. The online community is not as great as it was on the previous UT titles. But you'll still be able to find people to play with. And if you get together with a group of friends you can play the SP campaign cooperatively.

If you're into point and click adventure games I recommend either you download SCUMMVM and play through a bunch of old school titles. Or try some of TellTales titles like Tales of Monkey Island. Puzzle Agent (not a point and click adventure game) was pretty cool. If you enjoy games like Professor Layton you'll probably enjoy it. Also, the remakes of the first and second Monkey Island games were really well done.

As for strategy, I see you're already plating Civ V. A game that definitely will scratch the strategy itch for quite some time. But when you're done with it I strongly recommend you pick up StarCraft II.

If you're into exploring indie titles, World of Goo and VVVVVV are worth checking out.

Torchlight is a good dungeon crawler from what I hear.

I'd check out VVVVVV on Steam, that's amazingly fun platformer goodness.

For older games just cruise through http://www.gog.com, a majority of the cool shit is there, especially Point & Click Adventure awesomeness as well as older Fallout games and other cool RPGs (KOTOR, Jade Empire, Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, etc.)\

What's your Steam ID? I'll try and make recommendations through there if I can.

Also, obvious shoutouts to Warcraft 1 - 3 & Starcraft 1 - 2. Quintessential RTS games.

Yeah man, I know how I was when I first started rocking the PC and Steam. I actually like Civ IV better than Civ V to be honest, and I think it's pretty cheap at the moment....was $10 when I bought it with all the expansions.

Even though it's not a game so much as an interactive move - Back to the Future is really fun. Then your usual suspects - Fallout, Dragon Age, etc.

Get KOTOR 1 and 2. There are so many mods out for those games, especially 2, that make them extra awesome to play. I forget the name, but there is a mod for KOTOR 2 that adds all the cut content for it. It was like playing a completely different game.

A bit of a disclaimer, I've played games on the PC before, my old rig got outdated and I got a new one that can now handle directx 11. So I've played the classic PC games.

Some great sounding referralls so far though.

I would try something like Metro 2033 if your looking test out your computers graphical power. It is one of the most underrated games of 2010.

I would say it's not the least bit underrated. Meta critic gave it a 81 (user 82), a fair score IMO. It wasn't bad, just not nearly as polished as people have come to expect from games these days.

As for testing it for the graphics, it's not that impressive. Go with Crysis 2.

But considering how efficient the CryEngine 3 is ... Crysis 1 is still likely a better measure of hardware performance. (even if Crysis 2 looks better)

I bought Dragon Age 2, which in turn got me Mass Effect 2, for free. WOot.. Both look great.. However; Putting DA2 on texture detail on it's highest setting, doesn't render the textures at some angles. Just shows them as black, looks like my card isn't as powerful as I thought.. which is upsetting. :( but ME2 runs fine on it's highest setting, so I guess I could chalk it up to something being wrong with DA2. :teehee:

You need to download the high resolution texture pack. For some reason they didn't get it out in time for release or something.

Yeah, you're probably right. Crysis 1 also had more physics in its engine like destructible environments. But I always felt its textures looked bland and low res. I dunno, I might just be my me remembering it wrong.

I'd check Dragon Age 1 out on the PC. I hear it's superior to the console versions in every way possible and plays much differently.

Kinda stating the obvious by saying Crysis 2. Seems like he is looking for games he may have missed or not been able to play while having a lower end pc.

Turns out its a driver issue caused by the game +Directx11 on Nvidia cards. There's a patch from Geforce.com. so woot.

You might still need the texture pack. Don't know if they started including it with updates, or if you still have to download it.
