Today I want to discuss something that gets super misunderstood, now this is a link heavy thread, but take some time to follow these links to understand my point

Christian music.......I can see the eyes rolling already....

What do you think of modern Christian music as
This? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7F-B2DLvAQ
Maybe this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfFdGbdlyzI
A little of this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZi-Nqndeok

Yeah...not the coolest thing to confess you have on your iPod......but what about this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjpoFFE1 ... re=related

As a Christian growing up in the days where Manson, Korn, and Slipknot were all the guys in upper elementary school could talk about...I always felt like I couldn't find anything that was what people were calling "cool" that didnt talk about Satan, sex, hating the world, hating authority, etc. I mean I certainly wasn't going to listen to my sisters NSYNC CDs...

In the summer of 2003, I attended Sonshine, the Woodstock of Christian music. Now, yes, I heard some of the evangelical stuff,

but I also heard
this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9ATO77IVDc, this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5XFLS8Kyto
some of this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utzaHP5E4ng
and a little of this, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ywag29SsctE

I also saw just about every kind of person imaginable, goth, punk, skater, prep, biker, young, old......all at one event

My mind was blown

As I grew up, I went back to Sonshine a few times, went to concerts locally, bought lots of cds, attended teen youth groups at megachurches where they played videos for this music, and met my best friend, who also dug this stuff, and still does!

The bottom line is this, believe what you want to, thats cool, thats not at ALL what this is about, but know that music reflects self expression, and Christians come in just as many w alks of life as anyone else, and Christian music reflects that.

back in the day I used to listen to a lot of Christian rock music, a few of my favorites are as follows

the whole jesus freak album pure awesome IMO, but this is my favorite.

Spoiler

the supertones first few albums were great as well, christian ska, pretty good stuff

Spoiler

and of course the one everyone knows, or at least most folks from the 80s know, and its only kinda sorta Christian rock, started as straight up Christian rock and ended up going full on main stream after their first few albums . . . Stryper!

Spoiler

takes me back to my teens and this really awesome youth group I was in, good times for sure.

since I am posting in this thread, and just started a thread about ozzy music, does that make me a walking contradiction ?

:zombie:

hahahahahahaha idk, but I DO know that Alice Cooper, the most controversial shock rock artists of the 70s, the crazy drunk who many thought was taking teens straight to Hell, is actually a VERY open and devout Christian

Heres a song no one EVER expected out of him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mnb3mzP0Z0Y

I dig the band "Anberlin" quite a bit. They're the only ones I can think of off the top of my head that I like that fall under this.

Anberlin - True Faith
Spoiler

Anberlin - The Feel Good Drag (fave song of theirs that I know)
Spoiler

Same song, just a newer version

Anberline - Closer
Spoiler

Jesus Walks is awesome, it's brutal, it's real, there's no sugarcoating, it's a real guy expressing his desperation for Jesus in a seemingly hopeless situation. It's not clean, it's not made to please the oversensitive over conservative crowd, it's a real cry for help.
