Today I want to discuss something that gets super misunderstood, now this is a link heavy thread, but take some time to follow these links to understand my point
Christian music.......I can see the eyes rolling already....
What do you think of modern Christian music as
This?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7F-B2DLvAQMaybe this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfFdGbdlyzIA little of this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZi-NqndeokYeah...not the coolest thing to confess you have on your iPod......but what about this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjpoFFE1 ... re=relatedAs a Christian growing up in the days where Manson, Korn, and Slipknot were all the guys in upper elementary school could talk about...I always felt like I couldn't find anything that was what people were calling "cool" that didnt talk about Satan, sex, hating the world, hating authority, etc. I mean I certainly wasn't going to listen to my sisters NSYNC CDs...
In the summer of 2003, I attended Sonshine, the Woodstock of Christian music. Now, yes, I heard some of the evangelical stuff,
but I also heard
this,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9ATO77IVDc, this,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5XFLS8Kytosome of this,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utzaHP5E4ngand a little of this,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ywag29SsctEI also saw just about every kind of person imaginable, goth, punk, skater, prep, biker, young, old......all at one event
My mind was blown
As I grew up, I went back to Sonshine a few times, went to concerts locally, bought lots of cds, attended teen youth groups at megachurches where they played videos for this music, and met my best friend, who also dug this stuff, and still does!
The bottom line is this, believe what you want to, thats cool, thats not at ALL what this is about, but know that music reflects self expression, and Christians come in just as many w alks of life as anyone else, and Christian music reflects that.
