Fun fact: I met the person who made anime-planet. Apparently myanimelist was made after a lead member of anime-planet went off and stole all of anime-planet's ideas. In other words, my anime list is a cheap knock off of anime-planet.

Also, my anime list has no content control and the recommendations are more or less useless. So yeah, anime-planet is better.

Also, 3 months.

That may be so but I don't like how anime-planet doesn't count re-watches to your total time. I also like the simplicity of mal better overall, but to each their own.

simplicity? Please, its design is much worse than AP's. And are you really okay with a knock-off?

And to me, the dissallowation (its a word now) of counting the same anime twice is a great way to promote the expansion of your anime viewing. Otherwise people could just watch dragon ball z 23 times and claim that they've watched 23 anime. I've seen over 250 different anime, and no one can beat that without actually going out and looking for each and every series, not just inflating their time through reruns.

by the way, did you know that anime planet has the ability to import your list from my anime list?

also, look below my AP sig. I should probably let you know that.

Never seen the point of counting rewatches, I mainly use Anime Planet to keep track of what I've all seen.

No, you misunderstand me. If I watch a show twice it doesn't count as though I've seen 2 separate shows, but rather counts the time that I spent watching both which is very important to me and a huge reason why I use mal. I rewatch lots of things so to only count the first viewing of a show would be very inaccurate to the amount of time I have spent watching anime. I've watched 449 different anime series, ovas, movies etc.

MAL doesn't work the way you claim. If you watch Dragonball Z 23 different times, you have seen 1 show and it counts as only 1 show, however the amount of time you spend watching dbz 23 times is calculated into how much time you have watch anime in the Time (Days) counter.

I don't have a problem with anime-planet but it doesn't meet that particular aspect which as you can see is a make or break deal. Basically I want the most accuracy a list can give me in all aspects and mal from what I've seen does things I need and anime-planet does not.

I'm partial to MAL because of the "Time Watched" factor too. It's interesting that Anime Planet didn't implement something like this, like Raptr and other "time tracking" things on the net I always like to know how many years of my life I've devoted to a hobby. 200+ hours devoted to World of Warcraft in the matter of a few weeks? Yeah... that's depressing, haha.

I will say they both seem to be good anime tracking programs, sucks that the one is a knock-off, but... whatevs, I've been using it for 3 or so years now, I'm not going to stop now that I've found that out.

You mean how they do?

Well, I guess it makes sense actually, Anime planet is all about finding shows related to the shows you like in a simple, easy way. Myanimelist is more of a way to show people how elite you are. With bars graphs! The best kind of graph!

I fail to see how wanting to have an accurate time watched stat is elite.

So you are saying that it is impossible to want to know how much time you have spent watching anime accurately without being a show off and wanting to spam it around to everyone saying how much better you are then people who have seen less?

No, but seriously, have you ever met the average otaku? The otaku motto might as well be:
"The best thing about anime is not watching it, but showing everyone else online that I did"

Or maybe
"English sucks!"

I understand what you're getting at, but I don't consider myself an otaku, just someone who wants an accurate and as comprehensive of a list as possible and for all my purposes mal does that. Like I said, I don't have a problem with anime-planet and if they changed and adapted some things to meet my needs I would consider switching over, but for now they just don't.

I know, but remember I'm not calling you a problem or anything. Nor am I getting at anything, I'm just arguing because I do that. How did you think you understood what I was getting at? Was I not confusing enough?
No, myanimelist is perfectly fine for stuff, I use it sometimes for character references.

Honestly to me the whole thing that happened here looked almost like a fanboy debate (not to insult you) where you preferred one thing over another and were trying to shit talk the other thing. If that wasn't your intentions then you were off the mark. :)

That being said, I agree, MyAnimeList can definitely be about "I watch so much anime! I am king nerd!" but really, that's just sad. I like to pull out the "suckah, please. I've watched way more shit than you, you're not even trying." when people brag about how much stuff they've watched, but rarely do I ever spam it up in places and act like a jackass about it. It's also nice to spy on people and see what they have or haven't seen, and then harass them if they haven't watched a particularly awesome show yet. :rabbid:
