Great to see a dock charger for the 3DS included, smart move to make knowing how weak the battery life is, while it doesn't bother me, I'd only play 2 hours at a time max, not long term, its good to see Nintendo making the wise decision to accommodate for this minor issue,

North America said to be getting the system round April too so hopefully us Aussies will get it round that time too, though I have a feeling some shipping issue means we might not see it until June/July...

5 hours for 3D mode game playing ... is pretty damn good considering it's rendering three images and powering three screens AND one is a touch screen (uses more power). That's WAY more efficient than smart phones. And word is the 3DS takes about 3 hours to fully charge.

The battery life jumps to 8 hours for DS playing.

The 5 hour figure is probably with brightness, sound, etc. all the way down, but that's just a personal postulation.

All I know is Destructoid's had a shitload of news about 3DS recently, so basically my weekend has consisted of me beating off to game screens of an N64 AT MY FINGER TIPS IN 3D FUCK YEAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Maybe it's time to finally upgrade my DS Phat?

Guess I will wait to see what else comes out.. I wonder if there will be a GTA 3DS game if so then I would buy one in a second.

Thanks for sharing!

When I first saw it I was pretty much ready to just go ahead and preorder it. But now with the PSP2 rumours and stuff, I'm kind of torn. Paper Mario 3DS looks pretty kick ass though.

For all games or just 3DS games?

3DS and DSi. The DS had no such encoding system so the games have no region marker.

I've already starting banking up money I get from work to put towards it when it comes out, really hoping that by June/July when Aus likely gets it that Zelda will be a launch title or at least released, I'm so excited to have it portable, hopefully they will do Majora as well, that'd be incredible, and surely they'll do Pokemon Snap, its perfect for the 3D!

I don't understand the hype for the 3DS.

It's just a PSP made by Nintendo. Oh, and it has 3D graphics, which I'm sure will be interesting for a little while before the novelty wears off. The graphics are on the same level as the PSP which just leaves the games as a driving factor. Yes it will have Zelda, Mario and Kid Icarus and all that fun stuff but quit acting like it's some miracle machine. I'm sorry but to me it has too much common with the PSP.

Commence fanboy bitching.

:-)

Well, that's nice at least... but, yeah, region encoding is the ultimate suck.

This is actually not true. The graphical capabilities are far beyond the PSP. They're more inline with the graphical capabilities of the gamecube. And unlike both of those platforms, it has a dynamic pipeline, which means proper shader support. So there's all sorts of tricks you can do to make it look better with less effort.

You're joking right? An enhanced port of an N64 game is your reference?

Yes, I'd say you're missing a lot.

Let's just do a quick comparison shot ... here's Resident Evil 5 on PS3, I think

This is Resident Evil Mercenaries (an unfinished game) on 3DS

Even if, that's still just a slight step up from the graphical capabilities of the PSP. Besides, graphics don't make the game. The 3DS is just a glorified PSP.

The 3DS adds a whole new fucking DIMENSION to your gaming experience. I'd say that's more than "a slight step up".
