Rules

1. All normal forum rules apply.

2. NO JOKES! This isn't the topic for funny pictures or wise ass remarks.

3. Serious topics need to be well thought out when written, they also need to have well thought out replies. Please try to write more than a single sentence. Back up your opinion with facts or something else.

4. Keep a cool and calm head, especially about things such as politics, gay rights, religion, etc. People are allowed to have differing opinions than you, please don't view them as personal attacks, please don't start any sort of major drama or get all offended here. In the end, we're all friends still.

5. Use common sense when posting in here, which simply means ask yourself if this is something really worth posting, are you intentionally being mean to someone, if your topic is ridiculously controversial (IE. Baby Eating), are you accidentally bashing Christianity on Easter Day, etc.

6. In your posts, please try to clarify whether you're speaking based on fact or personal experiences as it will lead to less misunderstandings. Please do not state opinions as if they were facts without proof to back it up.

7. NO DRUNK POSTING.

Failure to comply with any of these rules (additional rules may be added in the future as needed) will result in a warning or perhaps a banning from the 'Why So Serious?' sub-forum. The severity of the punishment works in tandem with the severity of your actions.

Well... It's definitely an idea... Nothing on the long-term yet, and there's still the risk of disease.
But at least it's something.

Your thoughts?

Eh, I would rather get a vasectomy. It's a one-time charge, and has the same effect.

I think being subservient to some woman because you were careless enough to knock her up would be far more emasculating. That's the way it seems to work in the U.S., anyway.

Its nice to have an alternative but I don't feel comfortable with this just yet. Its still in testing and I don't like those psychological side effects that are being reported ("feelings of moodiness, depression and loss of sex drive"). I wanna wait and see what the long term effects of taking this pill are.

The worst of the risks with the female birth control pill (blood pressure and cardiovascular disease) are extremely rare and come with age. I wanna see what the risks of the male pill are going to be.

The pill they write about here has no side effects that have been discovered so far. The reported side effects are from hormone jabs previously developed, not from the pills, hence why this is considered such a break through. And even so, those feeling of "moodiness, depression and loss of sex drive" are actually quite common side effects of the female pill.

As for the side effects women experience from birth control pills, they are a bit worse and more frequent than what you seem to think, Danimal. I know several women who have had blood clots as a result of birth control pills (although I personally never had any serious problems back when I was on the pill).

I thought "moodiness, depression and loss of sex drive" are only side effects of some of the pills, not all brands. That's another thing, there is options with the female birth control pill, but only one option here. I kinda want to wait an see what's going to happen. According the article, the real human trials haven't even begun yet.

Also, I remember blood clots being extremely rare, like less than one percent rare, in women who don't already have some sort of thrombosis problem (at least, that's how my girlfriend explained it me when she went on the pill last year). I forget what the cancer statistics are, but there's also a slightly higher chance for cervical cancer I forgot to mention.

One more thing, is it just me, or was that a very poorly written article (wtf is a "horpmone"?). Was it translated from another language or something?

EDIT: I just wanted to add one more thing. I refuse to believe a single pill that stops a man's body from producing protein vital to healthy sperm production for months at a time has zero side effects. That is a major change to a body's natural chemistry. For now, I think the female pill is better just because its been around alot longer and we know the risks.

Indeed, the female pills have been around for a long time, and there are kinds that are less likely to cause unwanted side effects. After all, I have used them myself, and I think the convenience far outweighs the risks. Although I personally don't think "less than 1%" is a very reassuring number when it comes to blood clots.

Of course you guys shouldn't just hop on this stuff but wait and see how it turns out. New medication is always something to be careful with. It amuses me though, the fact that men are so protective of their sperm. I mean, really, it's like they're little beloved pets of yours. :teehee:

We don't hate them because he don't have to shove cotton up our wangs every month to stop them.

Clearly this doesn't belong in the Serious section... anymore, anyway.

Also, did you know that spunk shoots out at 28mph? Making it completely safe to hit a child with.

It wouldn't make you uncomfortable to completely forgo the usual female process and just stop producing proper eggs, so to speak?

No way. I am totally game for being a test subject for this. Like right now. I think my sex drive needs to take a hit anyway.

Well, technically, that's what the female pill does, by tricking the body it's pregnant. So no. :nosepick:
