capcom series play different too

it's just that they're consistently bad, or at least worse than SNK series

(jojo's bizarre adventure doesn't count cuz it ain't part of a series (well a fight in gaymez series anyways))

Geese Howard would smash Magneto's nose with his wristwatch while crushing Chun Li's throat with his foot.

Too bad Geese was left out of King of Fighters XII along with everything else that made that series good. I'm not knocking the series, just pointing out that it's fallen off and XIII better not be another half-assed game like last year's.

Don't get me wrong had Capcom announced Capcom vs SNK 3 I'd be way more excited, but MvC should turn out to be cool too.

I'm hoping the final character count falls somewhere around 40 - 46. There are plenty of characters that can be cut from the last one like:
Spoiler
Shuma-Gorath
B.B. Hood (although I liked using her)
Sonson
Marrow
Blackheart
Ruby Heart
Jin
Anakaris
Hayato
Spiral
Tron Bonne
Roll

As for who I'd like to see who hasn't either been in MvC or hasn't been hinted at yet:
Spoiler
Moon Knight
Frank Castle
Arch Angel
Daredevil
Doc Oc
Mac Gorgon Venom
Green Goblin
Thor
Winter Soldier/Bucky
Sentry (most broken character in game)

Demitri from Dark Stalkers
a licker from Resident Evil
Dr. Wiley with robot masters
Arthur from Ghouls and Ghosts
Haggar from Final Fight
Cracker Jack from Street Fighter EX series
Skullomania from Street Fighter EX series
Scissorman from Clocktower (because I feel like thinking out of the box)

MvC Rugal was toned down like a little bitch.

Original KoF Rugal should be selectable, and he just wipes his ass with everybody at once.

I'm very disappointed over the number of characters this game has. 30? Marvel Vs Capcom 2 had over 40 characters. If you're gonna make a fighting game sequel the number of characters the game has is supposed to INCREASE! I think this more or less has to do with the fact that the game uses high res 3D models as opposed to 2D sprites and you can't fit as many models on a disc as you can 2D sprites. The way I see it is they should have just made the game back in the 2D style of the previous games, that way we can have MORE characters, and, as anybody who likes fighting games knows, the more characters a fighting game has the more depth and variety it has, and that makes the game so much better.

Reminds me, you know what really pissed me off about the MvC games that DIDN'T piss me off with the wonderful, wonderful CvS games? Unlocking characters. Just let me play the fucking thing, don't make me work for it. Even CvS games had a little unlockable character stuff in them, and that was too much. Don't get me started on the newer-ish MK games. Trilogy is how it should be done.

That and the PATHETIC damage Zangief does with his moves and throws. Zangief is like the Fedor of CvS2.

We ain't getting no lickers, and definitely no fantastic four.

Marvel has already said as much with their "T for Teen means no really freaky monsters" and "Fantastic Four doesn't work with three man teams" statements. Also, it's looking like 39 characters, and the ones in the silhouette are no promises since almost any character can be dropped from the roster if playtest proves them to be unworkable.

almost meaning Hulk, Deadpool and Iron Man are definitely in.

Unlockables is the way to go for a fighting game. At least if it wants to have any single player value. The moment you have everything unlocked and available there is almost NO incentive to play the game. Even if it's just unlocking alternate costumes or character endings or whatever. There needs to be unlockables, or different storylines for characters or something, otherwise you have nothing to keep track of your progress.

Take the latest MK for example, Armageddon or whatever. Pretty much EVERYTHING is available right at the start, and while that's cool, it's also a big 'ol "So.... what now?" I mean, there weren't even varying endings for different characters if I remember right. You beat the game with one character, you beat the game with them all.

More people play fighting games for the multiplayer though. It's annoying when your bring your friends over for a brand new game only to find out you have to spend several hours on the game yourself unlocking everybody.

Exactly. Consider that we're talking about us arcade players here. If you want single-player stuff, make it bonus endings or colors or some shit. If it includes CHARACTERS, I get pissed off and usually stop playing. The DoA series blacktually did it okay, with most of the unlockable stuff being costumes rather than players. If half the fucking roster is "locked" then it's nonsense I won't bother wasting my time with. If I have to do busywork to get an experience that felt more complete in the early '90s, you're doing it wrong. Hell, I play KoF and some of the Samurai Shodown games religiously, and they have tons of characters. Same with MK Trilogy, Capcom vs SNK, etc. I remember being furious with Marvel vs Capcom games and the later MK games for making me "unlock" real, concrete features. I care about playing against a human, not a moronic computer. And if that experience is incomplete vs a more complete experience, I will gravitate towards the complete side every single time. Every single time. DO YOU HEAR THAT, DEVELOPERS? I DON'T MEAN 99 PERCENT HERE.

If you want to make it something like "ability to play with a certain type of weapon," fine. Do that. Maybe one-button super moves, or invincibility, or infinite gauge vs the computer, or artwork, or trivia, or designer commentary. But I want to be able to jump right in and play with most of the cool features and characters and stages immediately.

Man, I agree, and honestly, I'm getting too old for that shit. There are so many hours in the day, and I don't want video games to feel like busywork.

I think the 360/PS3 port of MvC2 had all the characters unlocked. I'm not sure though.

An easy solution would be to have everything unlocked for multiplayer Vs. Mode only, or have an easy peasy "cheat code" you can enter to unlock everything.
