Game Informer had a 10 page cover story on Dead Space 2 not that long ago and the impression that I got from it was that while they are amping up the action the game is going to have ebbs and flows. The setting sounds really cool seeing as how its a huge space station that's laid out like a city with set pieces like churches and schools. The best analogy I can think of is to compare it to the first two films in the Aliens franchise. The first installment was scary because it was the one resourceful character in a relatively small location against the unknown. The sequel expands the scope and becomes more of an action/horror. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't their inspiration in the first place.

The only thing that I think that's going to be weird is that Isaac is going to talk in this one. I'm not against the idea, but it's still just is a weird thought and hopefully they get a good VO actor for the job.

As for the RE5 comparison I think you might be overlooking a huge difference here. The guy behind RE5 was not the same director from RE4. Shinji Mikami directed RE1, its remake, Zero and 4. He also produced 2 - Code Veronica. He left and Capcom gave the title over to Kenichi Ueda. That would be as if Marvel were to replace Bendis just as Siege started with some random writer. It's still Visceral Games working on DS2.

What I will agree with you on though Link is the way EA turned Dead Space into a franchise overnight. The comics were "ehh", the animated film was "ehh" and the Wii railshooter I didn't bother with (but it looks like its coming to the PS3 and 360 along with Planet Cracker). The figures are pretty sweet though


But you can't blame Visceral Games for EA pimping out the brand; that's just what publishers do.

The game is about a year away still and we've yet to see any footage on it yet. Not need to dismiss it just because they want to make a few changes.

Ohh and random tidbit I just learned: the first Dead Space story was penned by comic writers; specifically Warren Ellis (who I dig), Rick Remender and Antony Johnson. Let's see if they come back for the sequel.

Even though I would buy it on the console's. Again this is a jerk move, the PC market's there, yeah there not exclusive's (aside from a few) but PC gaming is still fun with games like Mass Effect, Call of Duty, and Left 4 Dead which is far better on PC!

But, I guess there right when they mentioned it sold bad on PC, I did buy it for PC at first and it does control fairly average, and it's more fun on consoles so fair enough on that part

I've always been kind of puzzled as to why someone would buy a game more or less meant for PC at a new price with a new console (assuming the buyer doesn't own either game or console) when you can just as easily play it on PC for a low price (or no price, if you're internet savvy, and most PC players should be).

Dead space 1 was great. not gonna lie i'm excited for dead space 2!

while I agree with ya Black, we will never get that atmosphere again, because you know, Isaac survived the whole ordeal but he cant really be considered a mere engineer now, since he pretty much knows everything now.

itd be hard pressed to find a new area to get trapped in (unless they basically try a RE3 plot), or a new group of people to push him around and bitch at him to do things.

Though I dont like it, Action seems to be the only real way for it to go, but it could still have the horror aspect to it like other actions like Parasite Eve 2, or even RE4 (a whole game of regenerator-like creepy things)

why does it have to be Isaac?

they sent Isaac out to destroy a small pocket of necromorph activity, he goes silent / drops off the radar, they send in a new team to investigate and find out where isaac is / what happend to him, and your the ships chef, or pilot or something similar, the shit hits the fan, and its up to you to save your crew, find out where isaac is and find out exactly what happened.

there ya go, deadspace 2, no need to make it "gears of resident evil 5 space" , they could keep it much more like the first game in tone and feel with a few tweaks and improvements here and there.

anyway, heres my guess as to how preproduction for this game went...

guy A : so guys, our game had great atmosphere, lots of tension, and is being lauded as the last true survival horror game.

guy B : resident evil 5 made a stupid amount of money

guy A : I like money !

guy B : me too !

guy A and B at the same time : LETS COPY RESIDENT EVIL 5 AND MAKE LOTS OF MONEY !!!! hur hur hur

the only saving grace I have with Dead space 2, is they milk the shit out of the 'isaac went insane' bit, throwing in all sorts of weird shit like the first game, and even go further then that. That alone should be scary enough.

I don't know what to make of the teaser, because it's basically a teaser and doesn't show much. Still not sold on the game. I'll wait to hear/see more but I'm not looking forward to it.

gamers today are way to nit pickey I mean..... fuck! I'm sure as long as they stay with the main idea (guy stranded on a space ship fighting alien zombies) and they take their time with it which they are, then it will turn out to be a good game. If they are going to focus a bit more on action then that's fine also. I mean wasn't there already a good amount of action in the first one like how you can melee attack a necromorph and when one of them jumps onto your suit and you can hit "A" to get them off by ripping them apart with your hands? damn that was fucking cool! I'm sure they are focusing on that more than they did on the first game and that's what they mean when they say they will be focusing more on action this time around. I can't wait for this game, and a message to fellow gamers, try not to be another douchey mc nit pick...

yea were way too nit picky, while were at it lets make starcraft 2 a FPS, and diablo 3 is going to be a flight sim.

this game was the last real survival horror game that was both scary ( horror ) and had you on the ropes all the time ( survival / surviving ) , if they make you another over powered killing machine it will be neither scary nor any real survival , it will almost literally be resident evil 5 in space spiced up with a bit of gears of war for good measure.

And to that I say look at Resident Evil 4. Its the best selling game of its series, the most critically acclaimed of its series and yet different from what came before. I'm just saying that chances of this game just down right sucking are pretty slim. In the worst case scenario we get a Bioshock 2 scenario: the game is ok, but just doesn't live up to its predecessor; which in all honesty I can live with. But I do hope the game can still be just as scary as the first one.

what you dont think it will be scary? and all you have is a news article and a teaser trailer about it. hmmmmmm maybe its a bit early to decide if you are gonna like it or not, we still have some times before its released and comparing this to starcraft being made into an fps is way different than whats going on here, im sure it will have a lot of elements from the first game but jsut with a bit more action, im actually looking forward to this game.

Yeah we should see how it turns out first. Adding more action won't necessarily make it a bad game, but I don't it will live up to it's predecessor though.
