How about a show on great strategy games. Nobunaga's Ambition for the NES was one of the first I every played... and one of my all time favs. There's RTS games, TBS games (a la the Metal Gear Acid you just picked up, Mike), Sim games, there's tons of material there.

Destroying the brand...in other words...when a studio (or studios) takes an already popular and cemented franchise and destroys its legacy with one game (or if need be multiple games...or even no game)

For example...Tomb Raider, Duke Nukem (insert the no game part), Sonic (multiple games), Turok, possibly Guitar Hero (depending on who you ask), and several others...

Also to add more to the show how about the rise from the grave with an unexpected sequel that returns the franchise to its glory...example...Batman on NES to Batman Arkham Asylum

I liked the bit Mike touched on this week about another video game crash. Why not have a retrospective on the video game crash in the 80's, then tie it in with how this might happen today. I think the Wii & DS are following in the footsteps of Atari, in which they are allowing 3rd party developers to produce absolute crap titles, thus flooding the market with more lackluster games. This brings up the point of systems that actually produce more A titles, like Xbox 360, PS3, or maybe the best example is what the Dreamcast accomplished in it's day. Obviously, the video game market isn't in turmoil currently. However, I think we would have been saying the same thing about the industry in 1983.

Also...I like Willy T-Bird's topic suggestion as well.

I'm not sure if it was discussed before but my suggestion is the evolution of first person shooters, from wolfenstein, goldeneye to duke numkem, halo to killzone 2

I have a pretty good topic discussion for a future podcast, the ECA, the ESRB and the ongoing debate of violence in video games as well as the government's repeated attempts at trying to regulate the sales of violent video games to minors, kids under the age of the ESRB's Mature rating where only people at the age of 17 are allowed to purchase the game, and also trying to pass these absolutely pathetic and ridiculous bills to get them turned into laws which are absolutely unconstitutional and against the rights of the first amendment of the constitution!

How about controversial games that were just made for the sake of being controversial.... Carmageddon and Postal come to mind.

This, please, or maybe as a one shot thing, I would love to come on for this and talk about how bad this is for Australians, I've said it loads of times but I really think this would make an excellent topic guys.

How about the evolution of Zelda games, since Spirit Tracks just got released this week. What is going to happen with the next Wii Zelda title, where it can go beyond this, and where it might have been let astray.

I was looking back at the Prototype archives, and this hasn't been a topic yet:

The best & worst Arcade to Console ports

Which ones are the best, and which ones failed.

Beat Em Ups: past, present and future

Double Dragon, Final Fight, X men and all the other co op classics you and your friends pumped countless quarters into back in the golden days of the arcade. Not to mention some home console greats like Rockstar's Warriors title from a few years back.

This genre kind of died out but with stuff like Castle Crashers and online co-op all the rage, do you think Beat Em Ups have a future in the current gen?

I absolutely agree on that topic! You also left out the Streets of Rage games on the Sega Genesis/Megadrive by the way. This genre was very dominant back in the 80s and 90s but started to die out after the 32 bit and 64 bit eras and just totally died shortly afterwards.

Would love to hear Mike and Tom's opinions on this genre and how it could possibly make a comeback!

An episode of what "type" of gamer you are in any given genre, like:

FPS: Melee, sniper...etc

RPG: Level grinder, kamikaze, strategist

Fighter: Turtle, agressive, technical

Would a market monopoly for a console necessarily be a bad thing? Right now we have Sony, MS and to some degree Nintendo all fighting for the same market share. Would it be beneficial or detrimental to the consumer to just have one hardware manufacturer ?
