It's Spider-Man vs Hollywood, Mongo vs Food, Beeslo vs Drink, and a new segment for everyone to enjoy that came straight from the fans. It's pandemonium this week on YIBR!!!!

I will also give bonus awesome points to the person who can tell me what the song from the first break is. I'm thinking about 10,000 awesome points.

Vs. was a TERRIBLE game for the PSX. Just so y'know. I'm taking it to an Exchange to get like 25 cents for it. Also... I've heard the song from the first commercial break. Fuck if I can remember where it's from though.

Anyways... I bought an individual sound card because I thought my onboard sound was shitting out (it's a known fact that Sound Cards have superior audio quality compared to onboard cards usually.) Turns out, it wasn't anything of the sort. My VIDEO DRIVERS were causing issues with my AUDIO. Go fucking figure. :-/

Marvel is eyeballing May 2011, as that's the announced release date for the Thor movie. Which should've been mentioned in this week's show. I've got my ear to the ground (or rather Marvel's twitter account.)

Call Dominos through my Skype account and record it! We'll have it on the show and potentially get a lawsuit for recording someone without their knowledge. Also, I agree with Beeslo about The Net. The Internet seemed amazing back in that day.

Alfred vs. Norman from The Big-O would be awesome considering they're very similar to each other.

Lizard was the Lizard because of the Beyonder. Because if I remember right, he was also TALKING a majority of the time and had his human mind (sort of like Planet Hulk.) Anywho... you can't expect a fight to throw down in the middle of nowhere. Although I will admit if this fight happens post-House of M there's a less likelihood of a mutant passing by the fight.

I'm surprised by Beeslo only making 3 purchases, but then again this was a REALLY slow week. I'd be curious as to what happens once Fall of the Hulks drops and Siege is still going on. I'm curious if you'll be able to buy anything but tie-ins. I haven't read Siege yet, it's in my pile.

I'll be posting my comic of the week in a separate post in this topic once I finish this week's comics, although I think I know what comic I'll be choosing.

Also, I've purchased the first 3 TPBs of Avengers: Initiative. Primarily so I could follow the adventures of Ant-Man up to the point of Thunderbolts since I've recently got my hands on Irredeemable Ant-Man. I doubt I'll continue following it after he goes over to the Thunderbolts. But... who knows, maybe I'll have a different opinion then you guys.

PS. Tiny complaint. Some of the music seemed to try to drown you guys out at times. Nice musical choices though Mongo, a lot of it sounded VERY familiar I just couldn't place my finger on where they came from.

Y'guys forgot one (potentially critical) thing in yer Vs vs Vs segment.

You were right about Mimic taking on the powers of nearby mutants, but, he also permanantly retains the powers of the original five X-Men (which is why he still has wings) because he spent so much time with them in the early days.

Still a really good segment though. Lookin' forward to more down the line :-D .

About Avengers: The Initiative. I've been reading it right along from the beginning and while I do enjoy it, I really don't think your missing much by not reading it. It's very self contained (what happens at Camp Hammond, now Camp HAMMER, pretty much stays there).
Though the latest issue was pretty cool, although still not overly important. It showed how TaskMaster got to be a member of the Cabal as seen in Seige: The Cabal and had a couple really good "Norman Osborn is an evil bastard" moments.

To answer your question Link - pretty much all the music to this weeks episode was from the One Piece OSTs when we were talking.

Link's Comic of the Week

Image

Believe it or not, my comic of the week is Marvel Boy: The Uranian #1. It was written by Jeff Parker so the story and character is very similar to how he is portrayed in Agents of Atlas. The art is... unique. I don't have the comic handy so I can't remember who specifically did the art, but it's got this "scratchy" style to it that I'm sure people would easily view as ugly. It's not the best art in the world but it's still good for the type of story being told. The reason this is making my comic of the week (aside from BOTH Siege's being taken, and even Suicide Squad #67 was a close winner) is because of something I found pretty cool and amusing.

Everything takes place back in the post WWII era, and there's a company named "Timely Comics", which is what Marvel ORIGINALLY started as, and they explain the backstory to Beeslo's beef with Hulk and Skaar and Conan. In the Marvel universe, comics exist but they're created as a sort of "propaganda" so Superheroes can get their word out to the public. Marvel Boy saved the day and saved some peoples lives, and it apparently didn't even make the front page. So, they create a comic and use the name "Marvel Boy" from a previous fictional character since they thought "The Uranian" was too hard for people to remember, and thus The Uranian became known as Marvel Boy and they change his REAL origin story around so it would be more believable to the general public. I'm hoping the rest of the comic is sort of like this "dual self-promoting image" sort of story where they're trying to turn him into a "profitable" hero that the public can love as much as they love Captain America.

It's a pretty neat concept, and to make things even more fun they throw in a few inside jokes about old comics like someone stating they "Have this cool Gorilla idea" for a failing comic known as "Men's Adventures" which is the title Ken Hale AKA Gorilla Man first appeared in. So it has some 4th wall humor duality going on. But, the real cool part is that the REPRINTS in the back of the book also act as a supplementary material and as a comic within a comic... since it can be assumed that the reprint is the comic that Timely Comics created for Marvel Boy's debut.

Jeff Parker is slowly becoming one of my favorite writers. Everything he writes seems to just be AWESOME. I'm REALLY excited he'll be working on the Red Hulk title in Fall of the Hulks. He went from Agents of Atlas to soon to be stardom it feels like.

Also... IF YOU READ SECRET SIX PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING ASAP BEFORE NEXT WEEK:

Image

Suicide Squad #67 is ACTUALLY a Secret Six comic. DC is doing this thing where they're making follow-up number issues to canceled/finished series as part of Blackest Night, playing off the whole "zombie/return from the grave" sort of idea. Suicide Squad #67 is more or less Secret Six #16.5, as it's a direct sequel to the events of #16 and a prequel to the events of #17. You should definitely purchase it and read it, otherwise you'll probably be a bit confused when you read Secret Six #17.

I'm okay with postponing of the next Spider-man movie, not really that psyched on that series myself right now and it gives Raimi more time make it better.
Hey Beeslo, what if the next movie becomes Spider-Man 4: One More Day? Wouldn't that just be hilarious?

Versus! Awesome!

Alfred vs. Jarvis
Alfred wins.
Is Jarvis still around? Haven't noticed him in comics that much nowadays.

Lizard vs. Mimic
Sooo Lizard against a man who has the powers of Angel, Beast, Cyclops, Iceman and Marvel Girl... Yeah, I guess Liz gets pretty much beaten hard. However without those powers, or any other power nearby to steal, then yes Micmic losses.

Lady Gaga COMIC? Please say that was a joke, right? Please don't say Marvel has decided jump on a another stupid bandwagon.

Jarvis was one of the key Skrull figures. I'm not sure if he was ever back as a non-Skrull after Secret Invasion. Considering all the Avengers are illegal and that Tony Stark is an enemy of the state... I'd assume he's dead?

Turns out I'm wrong...

Quote:
After the final battle, the real Jarvis is discovered alive, prompting Jessica Jones to discover that her baby had been taken by the Skrull impostor.[6] Jarvis is later shown in a support group meeting with the others that had been replaced by Skrulls.[7] The Skrull Jarvis was eventually found in a hideout and was shot by Bullseye after returning the baby to Luke Cage.[8]

During the "Earth's Mightiest" arc, the real Jarvis, having refused to serve under Norman Osborn's new group of Avengers is sought out by Hercules and Amadeus Cho to be a part of the new Mighty Avengers team, Amadeus having done the maths and found Jarvis to be the one constant of the Avengers.

Also, they retconned his relationship with May because of One More Day, so... yeah, Jarvis is pretty useless right now until the Avengers come back.

It was the old music WWE (then still WWF) used during PPV's during the segments where they announce the card run downs. Not sure if it was strictly used for Wrestlemania, but I know for a fact that they used it at Wrestlemania IX when they were at Caesar's Palace in Los Vegas in 1994... I marked out a bit just now...

It is in fact the old Wrestlemania song! You sir get 10,000 awesome points!

BTW, Wrestlemania IX being outside was awesome. I totally remember when I was a kid watching it and Bret lost to Yokozuna and then Hulk Hogan randomly gets an impromptu match on the spot to win the championship!

haha, shit! I knew I knew that song from somewhere! I watched way too much "professional" wrestling during my childhood. I always liked Razor Ramone and the 123 Kid, and of course Undertaker was always the shit.

123 Kid got his gimmick because of Razor Ramon. He like beat him and stole a sack of money that Razor put on the line for the match.

Yeah, I remember that he originally started as one of those "throw away" wrestlers and then won the match.

I liked the versus stuff.

Mimic is way more powerful than Lizard. Couldn't find any info where it says he can only copy powers from just X-gene mutants. But even so, the powers he has kept over the years are enough for him to take down Lizard. That being said, I think Beeslo did a better job defending Lizard, so I say the win goes to him in this round.

Apparently (and I had to look this one up) he can also take on learned skills.

For example, he once was able to mimic Shadow Cats ninja skills. Which are of course not a mutant power of hers.
I duno if it has to be a mutant for him to be able to do it, but either way.

So who knows, maybe he could mimic Lizard's animalistic ferocity (can't back that up with facts, but it seems like a possibility at least) and that plus the combined powers of the original X-Men would probably make him pretty fuckin' dangerous.

I didn't do extensive research on Mimic before we actually had our Vs. I wanted to just be creative and go off stuff I knew off the top of my head.

For a guy who knows a lot about X-Men comics, how the fuck did I know more about Mimic than you though? For realsies. Am I the only person who remembers that trading card where he was flying through the air shooting lasers out of his eyes and ice out of his hands as he was dressed in an original x-men costume?

I swear I had like 20 copies of that card.

Oh, that made me so ANGRY! First of all, I didn't want Bret to lose the belt. They finally made a star out of the guy, and they have him drop the belt at the biggest show of they year. And then Hogan comes out and wins the belt from Stinko Tuna in approximately seven seconds after a match he wasn't even in.

Great. That's just great. We go from the Excellence of Execution to a guy whose entire repertoire consists of punch, body slam, and leg drop.

And then to make matters worse, the Hart/Hogan grudge match for the belt (which Bret would have won for sure) never happened, and we got Lex Luger chasing the belt instead. But that's a different rant entirely.

That was a terrible year for wrestling. Absolutely terrible.
