Pride, Dream, K-1, UFC, Elite XC. Armbars, guillotines, rear nakeds, grounding and pounding. Let's talk violence, shall we?

What do you think of Mini CroCop (Gorin Reljic)? That dude threw some mean kicks, showed he could take a hit, and has knockout power in his fists. I was very impressed with his debut.

And who do you have...Faber or Pulver? I'm partial towards Pulver because I went to high school with the dude, but the California Kid is a monster.

Tito sucks.

Anyone see the Kimbo Slice/James Thompson fight? Kimbo sure didn't look too good and it looked like he may have even tapped in the 2nd round. He won with a TKO in the third round though after he connected some nasty shots. This guy would get destroyed though if he went against some real opponents.

Low Bugdet Jeff:

Gorin is rough. Yeah he is like a mini Crocop but not quite up to the origina;s status...yet. Isn't he like 9-0 or 10-0? I'm not familiar with Faber, I do know Pulver but I'd have to see more of his opponent before I make a judgment. I'm not a huge fan of Pulver but he did beat one of my favorite fighters, BJ Penn back in the day but that has since been avenged.

Zeddy: Yeah I watched it last night, I though it was overall an exciting night of matches. A number of the fighters on the card were almost over the hill but we got some pretty exciting matches. The best one being the femle fight with Carano. That was a good match. And they wanted to give the match to Kimbo. They've been hyping him for months and trying to make him the face of Elite XC so I feel they stopped that fight prematurely. Don't get me wrong I thought the other dude was on the ropes but it was stopped a little early. I bet the tv execs got worried during the second round when Kimbo was on the ground and getting hit with elbows for like a minute and a half. Kimbo has only fought in 3 MMA matches and they hype him to be one of the best. Put him against Fedor, Noguiera or Quintin Jackson(Light Heavy) and see Kimbo get destroyed.

And that middle weight fight turned out to be good. Started real slow but picked up. I hate how they're saying that Lawler is one of the best middle weight's in the world and should be mentioned up there with Anderson Silva. Anderson would destroy him in under 2 minutes.

Anyone else looking forward to seeing Darth Fedor(best fighter in the world imo) massacre Tim Sylvia?

I miss Pride and I hate the UFC with a passion mostly because of Dana White.

Also, while I consider myself an MMA fan, my passion has always been just grappling in judo and BJJ. However, with the explosion of MMA since '05 or so, it is really hard to find a place where you can just train in jiu-jitsu without it filling up with meat heads who think that they can train for a few weeks and then climb into the octagon.

Well i watched UFC 81...i think it was 81.
Anyway basically i've been interested into UFC for a while and i wanted to give it a shot and when i heard of Brock Lesnar (former wrestler) making his UFC debut i had to watch it. But honestly i just found out that i'm not into UFC,i prefer WWE or TNA. Sure MMA is the real deal no fake violence but in the end fake violence is more entertaining than real violence...somehow

Whether you like him or not, Kimbo Slice will be what makes MMA mainstream.

Every sport needs that one athlete to legitimize the sport in the eyes of the public. He already has his own following from the internet and now he's making more fans.

Even if you don't like the way he fights, you have to admit that getting a cage fight on CBS is quite a big deal.

MMA is already mainstream. It's been for about a year now. Traditional martial arts are going in the gutter because of these half-assed wrestlers. It's ridiculous. MMA doesn't mean actually mixing martial arts styles anymore, it means someone who has decent boxing skills, decent kicking skills, and decent grappling skills, and throws them all in one and beats the hell out of someone.

Anyone remember the first UFC? Where they had sumo wrestlers, ju-jitsu practioners, and so on? Where they didn't have a set "uniform" of trunks, they wore their traditional apparel, like Gi's and such. and small-joint manipulation was legal. HAH

Also what about Pancrase? Anyone remember that (older Pancrase)? Bas Rutten was a beast.

I own it.

I also own the one where...what the hell was his name...I can't remember. But he kept punching the dude in the nuts.

IN THE NUTS. It was all legal. And badass.

This isn't exactly the best picture, but just imagine that punch on those nuts about 10 times .

I have to disagree about the half assed wrestler comment though. MMA is exactly what it says, a mix. You can't be an expert in one art, and a rookie in the rest. You'll die.

Yeah I remember those video sets, there was always lots more violence than there is today.

Well I was just saying it, that MMA is now it's own "martial art" in a way, no one says Mixed Martial Arts and means "Oh yeah I do Taekwondo and Hapkido." Mixed Martial Arts means you are a kickboxer that also knows how to grapple and submit. Just a little annoying to me, and although MMA is good entertainment, it just, for me, lacks the grace and fineasse of tradional martial arts like Taekkyeon or Wing Chun.

However, I still think there are a lot of MMA fighters out there who are expert in sets and a rookie in the rest, persay, but it's actually just strong points and weak points, like Cro-crop being a strong striker and not that great of a grappler, and so on. Usually never matters though, and when they are fighting it just looks like their boxing skills are weak to me, it annoys me, and sometimes the grappling gets ridiculous, where one guy is just on top of another the rest of the round. It can get really boring.

I do miss the old UFC, where it was pretty much a TRUE no holds bar contest.

I've been into MMA since an old buddy showed me Pride after a jiu-jitsu session, and I fell in love with the sport immediately. What I miss is the days of Pride but it seems to be coming back now with Dream (Aoki for champion btw).

You should check out Vale Tudo then, as that is basically what UFC was before they started adding rules; it's been going on in Brazil for a long, LONG time.

Yeah, Vale Tudo. That means something like "anything goes"? right? I know it's supposed to be an "art" or something, but I have never seen like any actual matches. The only thing I really know of it, is Ray used Val Tudo in his Bloodsport matches. XD

I'd agree with you on the Pride comment, I preferred it much to UFC, and think Dream is in a way bringing that "Pride feeling" back, heh.

Yeah, it's Portugese for anything goes. I've never heard it called an art; it's basically just an all out brawl with as few rules as possible (usually the rules are basically: No biting, no gouging, no fish-hooking) and no time limits. I can't say that I like it but meh, everything has it's audience...

I loved Pride because of it's philosophy on fighting; in the West we rate a fighter based on how much they can dish out and how hard they've worked (probably due to Western MMA stemming from Vale Tudo). In the East they rate fighters based on their hearts and how entertaining they are (probably due to Japanese MMA stemming from Puroresu).

I would love to have a true no-holds barred sport like the old UFC. In fact, I want fucking deathmatches.

And I want Mills Lane as the referee.

I want it to have black jack. And hookers! You know what? Forget the sport.

I'm happy to see Pride gets its proper respect. I was a huge Pride fan, my friend has every single Pride event on DVD and I went through the entire run and fell in love with the fighters. How legendary was Sakuraba's run through the Gracie Family? That is quite honestly the greatest achievement in all of MMA history imo. I would stack Fedors hold of the Pride Heavyweight title for 5 straight years up there as well. But to go so methodically through one Gracie after another and finish off the run with an hour and a half battle against the "one that started it all", Royce Gracie and defeat him is mind boggling. To earn the nickname "The Gracie Killer" is quite a honor.

But enough about that. I'm glad Dream has started up, which wants to keep the Pride feel and attitude. I despised Dana White when he bought up Pride. He knew they had the better fighters.

Very true! Sakuraba is my all time favourite fighter for many reasons: The systematic dismantling of the Gracie family (even breaking Renzo's arm in a kimura! Blast from the past), showing that there are alternatives to BJJ when it comes to the ground game and also for being the finest entertainer in the sport! The only one to come close is Genki Sudo and he's retired now.
Fedor is the greatest HW ever IMO and has nothing left to prove; a lot of people whine about him not being the top HW due to his not fighting in a while but let's face it: How many people are left for him to fight? He's fighting Sylvia soon (and I hope Sylvia gets his ass beat partially because I like Fedor and partially because I despise Sylvia) and after that there's basically only Randy and Barnett left who can be considered truly legitimate competition.

I hope Dream and World Victory Road fuse sooner or later and form a new Japanese powerhouse; the UFC needs some competition as their events have fluctuated between good and horrible lately.

Who here is pumped for Affliction: Banned?

MAIN CARD (PAY PER VIEW)

* Fedor Emelianenko vs. Tim Sylvia
* Josh Barnett vs. Pedro Rizzo
* Ben Rothwell vs. TBA
* Paul Buentello vs. Aleksander Emelianenko*
* Matt Lindland vs. Fabio Nascimento
* Renato "Babalu" Sobral vs. Mike Whitehead

PRELIMINARY CARD

* Ray Lazama vs. Justin Levens
* Mark Hominick vs. Savant Young
* J.J. Ambrose vs. Patrick Speight
* Brett Cooper vs. Mike Pyle

* - not signed

That's a pretty serious card they have out there. Rumor mill says Andrei is signing with them as well. If they could pull off cards like this every time, that could be a serious threat to the UFC right there.

Yeah when he broke Renzo's arm, I didn't notice it at first but when they showed the replay I was shocked! Renzo didn't even tap! He just kept in there. Sak is just the shell of the man he once was though. When Sak plowed through the Gracies, it was a changing of the guard. It was somewhat a new era being ushered in. From straight ground game(Gracies), to half ground game half gnp(Sak) but since then Wandy has easily defeated Sak and a number of others. But no matter what happens now, the Gracie run is already in the books. It will go down in history. Now MMA has since changed from Submission/GNP to more GNP/a little submission. I feel the UFC is a big factor in that. Most fighters that stem from the UFC are Hughes/Ortiz/Liddell clones. You'll never see a Noguiera style fighter come from the UFC.

Yeah I agree with you, Fedor has nothing left to prove. And yeah I feel that his only real competition lies in Baby Face because I think he will plow through Sylvia(hate this guy) and even Randy Coture I don't think has a chance. If he fights Randy I think it will be Fedor/Coleman all over again.
