Hell, they're the greatest games I have ever played. There's nothing I love more then to sit back, switch on my N64 and collect letters, musical notes, pokemons, and coins all day long.

Collecting always starts off easy. Say I have to collect 10 golden faucets, the first 6 are always in plain site, but the last 4 or last few are always a bugger to find. Sometimes they're in a tree, on a mountain, or possibly on a roof. Sometimes they blend in with the background. I think the developers do that to make you think most of the time.

Collect O thons are a standard above all video games. These games really make me think. "Where is that last skulltula?" That's something I would say to myself when I play a Collect O thon video game. I have to look deep within me to find the answer. I have to become the character I am playing. "If I were Link, were would I look to find that skulltula?". Collect O thons are very persuasively introspective toward the gamer. In a way, they break the fourth wall and tap into your emotions.

Why do you think Ocarina of time was so great? It wasn't because it was fun. No, it was because of the skulltula collecting. That simple implementation Nintendo put into the game evoked you to look deep within and become Link. A piece of you, much like a heart piece (he he he he), merged within that world. No one will deny their selves. Ocarina of time is as much a part of us as our pinky toes.

Collect O thons

They rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I once talked to a guy who was so proud that he had spent 4+ hours shooting every pidgeon in GTAIV. I explained to him how I had no idea there was such a minigame and that my favourite thing to do in GTAIV is to get high and just drive around listening to the ambient channel and taking in the sights.

He got very sad after that....

Yeah, game developers seem to think that more content = unfruitful Easter egg hunts...

Now don't bother me, I'm trying to eat every animal in MGS3

The sound the skulltulas make once made me almost go completely crazy. >:

I have killed all pigeons in GTA4. It took a while and some where in some unbelievable places. Did I also mention you get the awesome chopper in the main game for killing them all.

I have absolutely no problem with collect-o-thons in games.

Who does it hurt? Nobody.

The completionists get what they want in the sense of having more to do after the game is over.

The non-completionists get what they want by not having to worry about trivial pursuing of things that dont affect the game play.

Batman:Arkham asylum was very bad(good?) for collect-o-thons. Those damn riddler puzzles are enough to drive you to insanity (Maybe a huge irony for the game?)

this is pretty much my feelings on the subject, for me I just play a game to play through it and beat it, for those who want some more replay value / 100% complete it they can go through and try and find every little hidden thing.

in a way collect o thons are kind of like the precursor to achievement points in games - even though collect o thons are still in games and you usually get achievement for completing them, they are both born out of the same type of idea.

haha, that great pun aside, Riddler's stuff is easy as heck, especially when they give an in-game MAP telling you where to find the stuff. :D

PS. For most collect-a-thons I use somebody's super advanced dynamic map and/or watch YouTube videos. Most collectibles nowadays seem to reward you with Experience points, so it makes the game easier if you collect stuff.
