Why does everyone hate Family Guy?

Seriously, it seems like everyone out there considers this show below them. Everyone hates the cutaway comedy sequences for some reason. Why? What is so bad about them? I mean, okay, its an easy set up to make a non-sequiter joke. But I have two problems with this complaint. First of all, most of the jokes are funny. And honestly, I don't really care how something makes me laugh, I just care that it does. You can make all the intelligent, political jokes you want, if they aren't funny, then no one will laugh.

And also, people complain about how the cutaway humor sets up for jokes about celebrities or historical figures or whatever, but then go and watch South Park simply introduce the celebrity du jour into each episode with some kind of half assed explanation of how they got to the town, and then make jokes about them. Is that really that much better than the cutaway? No, it's pretty much the same damn thing.

And that's another thing I don't understand. Why does everyone like South Park? That show is absolutely terrible. I mean seriously, I'll write a script right now:

Excessively vulgar joke about shit or penises, namely, one coming to life.

"Satirical" joke about Bush being stupid.

The penises that come to life start dancing or something.

Another "Satirical" joke about Hillary Clinton having a gross vagina.

Cliche race joke.

I guess I wouldn't hate South Park that much, but it thinks of itself so highly. It thinks it's like this socio-political commentary that should be documented in the library of congress. In reality, It tries really hard to satire things, but it ends up failing and going for cheap shots like the aforementioned Hilliary Clinton's vagina is gross and then saying penis a whole bunch of times. It's a show geared toward 18 year olds that's only funny for 12 year olds. And that's what it is, it needs to accept that and stop thinking its A Modest Proposal or Animal Farm.

I love the show, the references, the humor its all hilarious. I think it's more people WANT to hate it rather than hate it for a good reason.

It always seems to be the Family Guy fans vs. the South Park fans.

I bet there are a large number of Family Guy haters that actually loved the show before it was reinstated. You could argue that the format shifted or the quality dropped, but no one "noticed" until after the South Park episode.

I like Family Guy, but it gets annoying when one scene gets dragged out longer than necessary. Case in point.

You know how a game might have excessive dialogue and backtracking, giving the illusion of length? This has the same effect.

That scene would have been a lot funnier if they had slightly changed the way he says "Ahh" each time instead of looping the same animation over and over :meh:

I do like the show though I have a few gripes about it but the one I hate the most is the use of annoying jokes like the emphasis on a word and wacky inflatable armed tube man over and over again just gets on the nerves.

The first few seasons it was great. Had me laughing most of the time, but now its just filler with 5min of actual stuff going on. Each episode is like this now:

Wow I cant believe that you got Quagmire and Cleveland arrested and Joe written up on charges for abuse of a prisoner Peter!

Ya Lois, the guys are going to hate me even worse than that time when I walked into the Hollocaust museum wearing my kacki suit with that permant marker stain under my nose when my arm was in a cast pointing infront of me, and I had a cold so I kinda sounded German.

*Insert 10min scene of Peter dressed like Hitler in the Hollocaust museum and everyone hating him*

*Cut back to another 10 seconds of the previous story*

Peter somehow reconsiles with the guys and gets Joe off of the charges. Then somehow he falls in the mud and ends up looking like Hitler again and gets up to a bunch of Jews getting out of Sinagaug, then Peter says "Boy do I need a distraction. Ladies and gentlemen, mister Conway Twitty"

*Insert 4min song of Conway Twitty*

Go to commercial.

Wrap up the show with Brian calling Stewie gay, Chris being dumb, and Peter making a joke about Meg being ugly.

Now you have a Family Guy episode in 3min of writing.

I like it, the over the top, low brow humour is just plain fun..I don't go out of my way to watch the new episodes every week I will be honest, or even go out of my way to watch it but if I find it on while channel surfing I will watch it for sure..its just a funny show that pushes the envelope so much....like South Park..but South Park has kind of gotten stale like the Simpsons.

The Fox primetime cartoon bunch is definitely a wide variety.

There are people who like Family Guy, but hate South Park

There are people who like South Park, but hate Family Guy.

People who either like or hate both South Park and Family Guy generally hate The Simpsons.

Everyone hates American Dad.

And Texans love King of the Hill.

Funny enough, I love watching all of these shows including American Dad...dunno why this show gets shit on all the time...

But if I had to order them in terms of my enjoyment of them, I'd say:

King of the Hill > Family Guy > South Park > Simpsons > American Dad

:-D

I still like family guy, just not as much as I used to, I used to think it was hilarious ALL the time and always very witty, now its just so/so and funny sometimes, its still a good show just no where near what it used to be , kinda like the simpsons , but futurama always been my favorite.

I myself actually prefer it in this way.

American Dad>King of the Hill>South Park>Family Guy>Simpsons.

American Dad has those great episodes, specially the one where Son gets breasts, (totally forgot his name for no reason, I know everyone elses but not his!). Also King of the Hill is great, and I dont even live in the texas. :D

American Dad is pretty decent sometimes. It has more plot than Family Guy does.

Family Guy HAS gotten progressively... dumber. I mean, it makes me laugh, but at the same time I dislike the show. It's funny, but it also doesn't need any sort of backdrop anymore. It's like... the first couple of seasons were there to develop the characters, and then they decided that with cutaways and flashbacks/forwards they could just do sketch comedy with these established characters and call it a day. It just feels like lazy people humor/writing. Plus a lot of the jokes have been so beaten into the ground it's like the dead horse show now.

I have no qualms with King of the Hill. It's pretty enjoyable and at other times it's boring. It's just one of those things. I think everyone came from Beavis & Butthead into King of the Hill and realized it had nothing to do with any of that after the first episode.

Simpsons is enjoyable but is also reaching dead horse territory since it's been around forever. I've always been a fan of Futurama ever since it came out.

South Park is still pretty creative at times, and even though they have all the dumb jokes they still do an AWESOME job of parodying film genres and other stuff. Like with the whole "Police TV Show" parody they did or with Butters being a super villain, and all that stuff. Sure, they'll have the "Oh god, fuck this celebrity, let's just tear them a new one" stories, but... whatever, some of those are decent too.

Fix'd

I enjoyed the first season or so of Family guy, but it got old fast. I can't watch it anymore.

I actually absolutley LOVE King of the Hill, it's my favorite animated comedy show. I really like Futurama and I guess I'm the only person on the planet who doesn't hate post 9th season Simpsons.

I think everyone hates American Dad because it's an inferior clone to Family Guy. I think Futurama would have suffered the same fate (being hated by 99 percent of the population) if it weren't funnier than the Simpsons. That being said, I don't HATE American Dad, however, I would much rather watch King of the Hill, Family Guy, Futurama, or the Simpsons.

I love family guy , I prefer it to most other shows ( still like other ones though ). I like the fact that it doesn't narrow itself to a storyline and some of the funniest moments, for me, are when something happens that is nothing to do with the topic they are talking about.

Most of thier jokes are pretty dumb , but I love to switch off and just chuckle away to myself :teehee:
