Okay so the amazing pop culture store in Melbourne's CB district that I go to for comics has a bunch of Green Lantern comics and paperback graphic novels, etc. question is... what ones do I start with? I'm interested in reading the comics before I see the film next year and I was tempted to buy Green lanterns Blackest Night but decided not to and ask the Yamagato experts to give me some recommendations, there was also a best stories of green lantern paperback to that interested me.

anyone got recommendations where to start with Hal Jordan?

on a side note, I also bought Battle for the Cowl and the first two editions of Scott Pilgrim today while I was there?

YAMAGATO GO GO!!

The thing about understanding gl comics since hal came back is that everything geoff johns was writing was building for blackest night for the longest time in both the gl book and the corps book. I would ideally recommend that you read from rebirth - on for the gl book and recharge - on for the corps book.

If you wanted the Super duper quick version that won't make you enjoy it as much
Secret Origin
GL Rebirth
GL Corps Recharge
Sinestro War
Rage of Red Lanterns
Agent Orange
Blackest Night

As far as getting the gist of the characters for the film Secret Origins is your top priority. Mongo pretty much listed off everything and about the only thing I can add to it is that since Geoff Johns has been on GL for a few years now and never took a break it should make it somewhat easier to narrow down what books to buy. As far as the Green Lantern Corps. series goes you don't have to read it, but it does flesh out Oa and if your looking for Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner and John Stewart then this is the book where you'll see them.

Yeah, as far as understanding everything with Hal Jordan you don't have to read the corps title, but I found that I didn't enjoy the Sinestro War crossover event until I had.
