Shinigami - The Game Master. The Shinigami chooses who will be Kira and L for a Volume and announces each day who dies and how they die when Kira decides to kill someone for the day. The Shinigami also handles any action taken by players.

• All actions taken must be PM'd to the Shinigami.
• Directly asking the Shinigami for help will most likely result in the opposite result happening. Think of the Shinigami as Ryuk. It's the Shinigami's job to make things more interesting to his own discretion.
• All decisions in the game that are made by the Shinigami are made by a d20 dice roll. Several factors go into the percentage of success of these dice rolls.

Kira - The secret killer. This person will eliminate the other players one by one every day. It's the goal of Kira to kill all of the other players before they can guess who is really Kira.

• Kira is allowed to kill ONE person per day by PM'ing the Death Note entry to me, the Shinigami. I will announce the death, as to avoid revealing who is Kira.
• Kira is allowed to make a descriptive death (limited to the boundaries of what is actually humanly possible). This can possibly throw people off, or increase suspicion around you. Be careful how you use the Death Note.
• Kira is allowed to tell others he is Kira, but he must be careful who he tells, as that person might just use that information to end the game.
• Every three kills he makes, Kira may make global announcements to the people through the Shinigami. Kira must PM these announcements to the Shinigami.
• Kira may not quit the game if he believes that he's about to get caught. Mix things up. TRY to think of something that will take suspicion off of you.
• If the game goes on for 4 days and Kira hasn't killed anyone, Kira will die and the game will end. This means that Kira cannot rely entirely on a second Kira for more than three kills in a row.
• In decisions made by popular vote, Kira's vote does not count.

Second Kira - The other secret killer. This person's job is to try to take suspicion off of Kira and onto themselves with his manipulation of the deaths.

• If the Kira chosen is having a hard time keeping suspicion off of him, he is able to recruit a second Kira. This person's name MUST be PM'd to the Shinigami. I will NOT announce that a second Kira was chosen.
• The second Kira may be a Civilian or an Investigation Supporter, but careful planning must go into what kind of player is given this power as the Second Kira will still have to follow the rules of their player class. If the Second Kira is an investigation supporter, they are STILL a required kill for Kira to win the game.
• The second Kira can only use the death note on a day that the original Kira has decided not to kill someone (It should be noted that it works the same way in reverse: Kira may not kill on the same day as the second Kira).
• The second Kira may not discuss his role with anyone. Any person caught saying that they are the second Kira will be punished or jailed.
• If the Second Kira is murdered or defects, then Kira may not pick another Second Kira.
• Kira has the right to kill off ONE second Kira and replace him with someone else. Kira forfeits this right if the second Kira defects or is murdered.
• In decisions made by popular vote, Second Kira's vote does not count.

Investigative Team - The people whose job is to deduce which of you is Kira from the killings and actions of Kira. These are the people that Kira must kill to win the game. Kira will be among you in secret.

• To capture Kira, all of the other investigative team members must agree on who is Kira and declare their arrest.
• Investigative team members may not kill other people, as their job is to save lives and not destroy them.
• After five kills from Kira, the investigative team reserves the right to imprison a member of the team for up to 4 days (the team member must be chosen by a popular vote, of course). The imprisoned team member MUST be released before the 4th day ends. This power may be used at any time after Kira's first 5 kills, and must be invoked by popular vote.
• Imprisoned team members may not make any actions, including taking part in voting and writing in the Death Note if they're Kira. Unlike jailed members, they may still post in the thread.
• Once every seven kills (by any means), the Investigative Team must add ONE civilian to their numbers. This is done by popular vote. People added this way gain full rights as an Investigative Team member, including the right to vote.

L - The ace investigator whose sole purpose is to bring Kira to Justice.

• The role of L is chosen from the Investigation Team by the Shinigami at the start of the game. The chosen L will usually be somebody that the Shinigami believes will present the biggest challenge for the chosen Kira.
• Every three kills by Kira, L is allowed to give an announcement through the Shinigami, thus giving L the ability to convey his thoughts, opinions, and evidence without giving away his identity and making himself a target for Kira.
• Claiming to be L will result in 1 day of jail time. Even if you are L.
• L is not a required kill for Kira to win the game, but if he is killed by the Death Note, then one fourth (rounded down) of the remaining Investigative Team picked by random chance will become Civilians. These players will no longer required for Kira to kill to win. After this, L's powers are passed on to the L Successor.
  
• Every 5 deaths (by any means) L gains the right to jail any ONE person himself for up to 4 days.
• L is allowed to vote in the Investigation Team's public popular vote decisions, and his vote counts for two people.
• If L is killed by physical means, nothing happens. It will not be announced, and his powers will be passed on to the L Successor.
• L may not kill other players.

L Successor - A detective prodigy who is destined to take up the title of L should something unfortunate happen to him.

• Upon being chosen, L must choose his/her Successor by sending the chosen person's name to the Shinigami. This person must be a Civilian (I can't have you picking Kira, after all).
• The L Successor will be told that they were chosen, and will continue to play the game as a normal player until L's death.
• Upon L's death, all powers and priviledges that L had will transfer to the L Successor. The L Successor is not allowed to use the priviledges of L until the first L is dead.
• If L is kill by Kira, the L Successor does not gain any of the original L's saved up jailing chances.
• L successor's death does not have any adverse effects other than the investigation team's loss of L's benefits.
• If the L Successor is dead before L's death, L will be notified, and he/she will be allowed to re-pick his successor ONCE. If that Successor dies before L, then L's death will result in nobody taking his place when he/she dies.
• After succession, L Successor may not kill other players.

Civilians - Civilians are just regular people who aren't a part of the investigative team, and are just normal people. Civilians are broken up into two secret factions: Kira supporters, and Investigation supporters.

• All Civilians must PM the Shinigami with their allegiance preference. To make things easier, the PM title should read either "Civilian: Kira Supporter" or "Civilian: Investigation Supporter"
• For the sake of balance, please include whether or not you would be open to switching your alliegance. I plan to keep the ratio of Kira Supporters and Investigative Supporters as close to 1:1 as possible.
• Civilians may not take part in the Investigative Team's popular votes.
• Civilians may discuss their allegiance, but be wary as some people may say they support the opposing side to get information and screw up the actions of the opposing side.

Kira Supporters - Kira Supporters are civilians that have an allegiance to Kira and wish to see his plans succeed. Part of being a Kira supporter is trying to make sure that if a second Kira is needed, that it is NOT an Investigation Supporter.

• Kira supporters may attempt to kill investigation team members, but must keep in mind that the penalty for attempted murder of an officer of the law is severe. Jail time could be anywhere from 3 to 5 days if they are caught.
• Kira Supporters may attempt to kill other civilians, but must keep in mind that there is a penalty if they fail. Jail time is 1 to 3 days if they are caught.
• If a Kira Supporter attempts to kill Kira, it will fail and they will likely be jailed if they are caught.
• Kira supporters must follow ANY instructions given to them by Kira's announcements.
• If a Kira Supporter is recruited by the Investigative Team, the Shinigami reserves the right as to whether or not Kira will be informed.
• Kira Supporters that are recruited by the Investigative Team are not required to die for Kira to win the game.
• If Kira wins, his supporters win.

Investigation Supporters - Investigation Supporters are civilians that oppose Kira's will and wish to see him captured. Part of being an Investigation Supporter is making sure the Investigative Team does not recruit Kira Supporters.

• Investigation Supporters may attempt to kill other civilians, but must keep in mind that there is a penalty if they fail. Jail time is 1 to 3 days.
• If an Investigation Supporter is chosen as the Second Kira, they can either keep it and do Kira's bidding and renounce their role as an Investigation Supporter, or announce to the Investigative Team that they were chosen as the second Kira and give up their Death Note.
• Investigation Supporters may kill other civilians, but must keep in mind that there is a penalty if they fail. Jail time is 1 to 3 days if they are caught.
• Investigation Supporters must follow any orders given to them by L. Other players may do the same if they wish to make themselves appear to be investigation supporters.
• If the Investigative Team wins, their supporters win.

Dead People - Those that have been killed either by Kira or by other civilians.

• For the sake of making sure there's no confusion, if you're dead, post in red. And keep in mind, your input means practically nothing, as you are quite dead.
• Dead people are not allowed to discuss their roles in the game, or any other vital information relating to the game.
• For the love of God, don't use being dead as an excuse to goof off. Either be a productive dead person, or don't post.

Additional Rules:

Signing Up - Signing up for a position does not guarantee that you will get the requested position. Two situations may arise: 1) If you sign up for the Investigative Team, and I believe that you will not be active enough for the position, I may not allow it. 2) If a civilian alignment has too many people, I may transfer you to the other team to keep the ratio of Kira Supporters and Investigative Supporters as close to 1:1 as possible.

Murder Attempts - To further protect the identity of Kira, any deaths carried out by any person's own means (without using the death note) must also be carried out by me, the Shinigami. YOU MUST PM THE SHINIGAMI IF YOU WISH TO PHYSICALLY KILL SOMEBODY FOR ANY REASON. Whether or not these deaths are successful is determined by the Shinigami.

Life Saving - If someone is suspicious enough to where you believe someone is about to murder them, a civilian has the ability to save their life. This is done by PM'ing the person whose life is to be saved to the Shinigami. The success of this is determined by the Shinigami. If no outstanding death threats have been made on the chosen person, this action will fail and could possibly result in adverse effects.

Information - When the Shinigami announces a murder or Death Note kill, sometimes not all possible information about the death will be revealed. Investigation of the murder scene, victim, and other factors may be required. In order to gain more information about a murder or death, PM the Shinigami about your attempt to investigate. The Shinigami will then make a decision and PM back any information that was successfully gathered. A crime scene will deteriorate as more people check it based on what was searched for and/or taken. Information checks may be performed by ANY player, including civilians.

Jail system - Crimes committed will net people jail time. Those in jail cannot make any action, and may not post in the thread until their jail sentence is up. And no mention of prison buttsex. Leave that stuff to yourselves. The Shinigami reserves the right to jail anyone that they believe is being abusive, annoying, or otherwise trying to screw the game up for other people.
