Comedian Greg Giraldo died today after a prescription drug overdose.

I'm very bummed by this news.

I'll respectfully say I was not a fan of his comedy, but it is sad that he died and I feel for his family.

I heard about this yesterday and it really upset me more than I thought it would. He's made me laugh out loud countless times and really had a unique style of comedy that was genuine, something you don't see too often anymore. Giraldo was also so completely under-rated and I was confident that he'd be one of those few underdogs that would eventually make it big. He was definitely my favorite roaster and in my top 10 comedians. I can honestly say that this is the first celebrity death that really bummed me out significantly.

This, except there were other recent celebrity deaths that upset me.

I was a huge fan of the guy, he was like Mencia before he sold out. Anyone ever see Mencia's good actt before that shitty show? It was actually brilliant.

I hope the man's family is doing well.

Yeah, I hate Mencia with a passion now, and most people automatically assume I'm biased for some reason. What people don't know is that i LOVED his original stand-up and when I heard he was going to have a show I got really excited. Then I realized how much he sold out and I just instantly despised him. It was a straight rip-off of chappelle's show, and then all the jazz with his stealing of other people's material was basically confirmed.

I guess we can be safe that nothing like that will ever happen of Giraldo, and he'll always be remembered for what he's always stood for. it's just so sad to know we'll never know what he could have really amounted to. Roasts will never be the same again, and I really do feel bad for his family.

Damn shame. Comedy Central's roasts won't ever be the same.

Definitly one of my faves and of course I always looked forward to him on the Roasts in a big bad way.

I heard about his passing on the Daily Show the other day and when he said Greg had passed away I was just sitting there for a few minutes shocked.
I was sitting there thinking "Man, was it some heart disease or something?" but, I honestly knew deep down that it was drug related.

Damn shame.

I don't know the details, but I'm looking at this more as an accident (not knowing the strength of the medication) vs an accident of just plain overdosing on pills. He was at a party, but I'm not sure what kind of medication it was or why he was taking it. Were they painkillers or were they something that he thought he needed (like Heath Ledger's accidental overdose). Not sure.

Considering he was a recovering alcoholic, I'd be surprised if he were taking prescription meds if not for a somewhat legit reason. But who knows?

It is a shame because like everyone else mentioned, he was original in his perspectives on life and how we treat each other. He was always a dependable source of laughter in all the roasts (even the bad ones). And he seemed like an all around decent person.

It's a shame, he was a pretty funny guy.

On a side note ... I wish Comedy Central would show the actual Friars Club roasts not their own.
