Rules

1. All normal forum rules apply.

2. NO JOKES! This isn't the topic for funny pictures or wise ass remarks.

3. Serious topics need to be well thought out when written, they also need to have well thought out replies. Please try to write more than a single sentence. Back up your opinion with facts or something else.

4. Keep a cool and calm head, especially about things such as politics, gay rights, religion, etc. People are allowed to have differing opinions than you, please don't view them as personal attacks, please don't start any sort of major drama or get all offended here. In the end, we're all friends still.

5. Use common sense when posting in here, which simply means ask yourself if this is something really worth posting, are you intentionally being mean to someone, if your topic is ridiculously controversial (IE. Baby Eating), are you accidentally bashing Christianity on Easter Day, etc.

6. In your posts, please try to clarify whether you're speaking based on fact or personal experiences as it will lead to less misunderstandings. Please do not state opinions as if they were facts without proof to back it up.

7. NO DRUNK POSTING.

Failure to comply with any of these rules (additional rules may be added in the future as needed) will result in a warning or perhaps a banning from the 'Why So Serious?' sub-forum. The severity of the punishment works in tandem with the severity of your actions.

I think I'm cursed with some kind of weird syndrome. Ever since I graduated high school I've been unable to sleep on my own. I spend countless nights just laying in my bed with my eyes closed but never drifting off into sleep. I've visited countless doctors, therapists, psychiatrists, every sleep study clinic within 50 miles and all they can do is prescribe sleep medications. (which most of the time don't work.)

I tried all sorts of methods to try and get to sleep without pills but they don't work. I tried playing calming relaxing music, I tried ambient sound effects like running water and rain, I even tried getting myself worn out with physical activity... nothing works. I'm on a life sentence of sleeping pills because they seem to be the only way I can get to sleep, and it's frustrating as hell. No matter how tired I get, no matter how little energy I get, no matter how long I stay awake my body just won't shut down for the night.

I call this "ailment" I have "Hercules Syndrome", on the count of my body never wanting to rest or sleep.

I fear this will be going on for my entire life and I don't know what to do. Anybody got any ideas? Is there any surgical procedure I can go through to fix this?

There was a time in my life where I had this problem, but it was a combo of stuff in my life that was just overbearing. I had lots of stress and just couldn't deal with it that great so I lost lots of sleep. I wish I could help you with that, but that was the only time in my life where I had that happen.

Physical Activity and Exercise are a little different. I don't mean like, go for a walk or play a game of hopscotch :P I mean like total balls to the wall death by exertion exercise.

i know what you mean, but it totally depends on one's stamina, like before i was a slob and just started working out my body wouldn't go as far but after an hour of workout it feels like im about to collapse, now when i go to the gym regularly im able to spend 3-5 hours in there... then i finally feel tired and or sleepy(besides all the hot girls go there so im definitely staying)

now as for TBG, it really depends on your activities. one thing is perhaps thinking too much your body stimulates to your thoughts, i may suggest you meditating at night or in the day, just close your eyes and clear your thoughts instead of actually trying to clear your thoughts just focus on your breathing and let the meditation get to you naturally. it really helps...

earplugs and eye mask. Helps me sleep when I dont want to, especially during the day, since I do a lot of shiftwork.

I swear this topic was brought up awhile ago but anyways insomnia is shitty. I haven't been suffering from it for a couple weeks now but a good method for me is smoking pot. Maybe drugs aren't your thing but I'd rather smoke a plant then swallow some synthetic pharmacutical shit.

Marijuana is a good sleep aid, although I can't really condone doing this considering it's illegal where I live. There have been a few occasions where marijuana didn't do a damn thing to help me sleep, but I believe it was due to stress. Anyway, I agree that pot is definitely a better alternative to sleeping medication.

Oh yeah, I have this and then some. I remember being in the lobby of a hotel near where I live to take a leak during a bodybuilding convention, then sat down and waited for some folks to arrive. This was a Saturday; that's important to remember for this story. A bodybuilder sat down next to me, complaining of being tired. He said he hadn't slept in over 30 hours. I asked him to guess the last time I slept, and he guessed about the same, and I told him "Wednesday." He shut up.

I'll tell you one thing that helps, and if you've seen Fight Club, it's true: therapy groups. In my case, a lot of times I was the one therapizing the group, but either way, if you get to hear some fucked up stories, you'll often sleep great the same night. No joke.

Sit in front of the tv works for me. Put something not that interesting on. Sleeping with a girlfriend helps. Her Breathing will put me to sleep. Most of the time I read until I pass out. Hop into bed an hr before you need to, open a book or a mag. Do not take pills until you are having major problems. Sleeping with someone else and reading works best. I think we have all been through this at one point or another. I've gone a couple of days without sleeping a wink before.

I used to smoke weed alot when I was a teenager. I lit up every weekend, whether it be a bowl, joint, or a blunt. I eventually came to a point where weed did nothing to me. I can;t get high off weed anymore, I even smoked a huge assed bong my friend Mike made out of a 2 foot long cardboard tube and I didn't even get a little high. Also weed is expensive and I got laid off from work after Christmas so my ability to buy Mary Jane is out of the question. Besides I'm so desperate to find another job that I don't want any of that shit showing up on drug tests, but that's another story.
