Canadians discuss this. Personally although I did not vote for Harper, I don't think it's fair that a new party we didn't even vote for is attempting to overthrow the government. The party would consist of Dion (Who last I checked was resigning after he lost the election), the Bloc (Quebec Seperatist party), and the NDP. Apparently the NDP went against the concept of fighting high income tax cuts to join in with these parties as well.

What do you guys think? Personally I think this is some scary stuff

Our political system is a mess. First off I want to say this; What did Harper expect would happen by cutting the funding to the other Canadian political parties? Did he really think they would sit back and see the majority of their funding cut? Very dumb move on the Conservatives part.

Now, as for the coalition, I think it's bullshit they can just take over like that. I'm by no way a fan of Harper, but this is just retarded. Dion as PM just scares me. Honestly, I think this whole coalition thing might have some serious backlash, and I don't think voting Canadians should stand for it!

so true, I am NOT a Harper supporter at all..but whenever I bring this up, people think im some sort of conservative apologist, when I just don't want a party that has no platform that formed last week take over the country. The fact that a separatist party has fucking veto power on the budget is not something that im happy about.

Mongo- Harper basically thought that he was in a position where he could give a the finger to the other parties by cutting a lot of their funding in the national budget, but it turned out to be a big mistake, and now all the major opposing parties have formed a coalition in an attempt to overthrow Harper's government. What happens from here basically comes down to the Governor-General. They might even shut down Parliament @_@

Harper, who is the current Prime Minister of Canada, and his party hold the most amount of seats in Parlament. That means that his party is the majority. However the Bloc Quebecquois (Spelt that wrong and dont care), the National Democratic Party and the Liberal Party have all joined forces into a colilition. So those 3 parties are essentially working as one party. This gives them as a large group more total seats than the Progressive Concervative party that Harper is the leader of and Prime Minister becuase of.

This French douche named Stephan Dion, who can barely speak English, is the leader of the Liberal party. If his party and the Bloc and NDP join together Stephan Dion would take over as Prime Minister of Canada. Which would suck major donkey balls and fuck over everyone in pretty much every sector of live and business.

Now Harper, even though he is also a douche, was voted into office by Canada. If the 'coup' by the other 3 parties takes place they will essentially take over the government by majority rights and Harper will be shit outta luck. Thus making our votes worth shit and essentially saying that even if we vote it can mean nothing anyways.

So ya, either way Canada is up shit creek one way or another, headed by either Dion or Harper in front in a douche canoe.

Well, they just shut down parliament.

It's interesting to see how some of the international papers are spinning this issue as well.

Not soon enough, he's the worst Liberal leader in Canadian history.

He's in power until May when the Liberal convention takes place for his successor.

hahaha well I can see he's already got a head start in helping the economy by not using Expensive audio equipment to record speeches, other than that... he's got to go, I'm wondering if the Liberals are going to get rid of him even before May

I think it's either one or the other.

what a fucking load of ass...its as if this is all one big diversion to keep the eyes off the economy and make it tank further. Anyone else find it suspicious that Harper wanted an Election when we were hit with the recession? and that all this shit is going on while the markets continue to dwindle? its an embarrassment that our elected are acting so much like pre-school children, that the parliament is locked down TILL JANUARY 26TH! :omg:

I agree with Phil. I mean, I hate Harper...a lot...

Now, I'm not crazy about Dion (I voted NDP, cause I pretty much know Conservatives were going to win) and while I'll be happy that Harper won't be in power, this also doesn't feel right. It's like running a marathon and punching out your opponent to win the race. So really, I'm not pleased with Canadian government at all...with anything...

Shouldn't we be focusing or something else? Like our crippling economy right now? I thought that was kinda important.

If the coalition does take over, and Dion resigns (like he said he would) here's hoping they get someone amazing to replace him. Like Frank McKenna! That guy....is-a da shit!

I really do hate the way elections run here. At times I wish we had the American way of doing it so we don't have this stuff happening.

Anyone catch the Daily Show last Monday? They did some pretty funny stuff on it...plus mentioning the complete stiffness of Harper's hair.

...seriously...that shit can't be real...
