1. All normal forum rules apply.

2. NO JOKES! This isn't the topic for funny pictures or wise ass remarks.

3. Serious topics need to be well thought out when written, they also need to have well thought out replies. Please try to write more than a single sentence. Back up your opinion with facts or something else.

4. Keep a cool and calm head, especially about things such as politics, gay rights, religion, etc. People are allowed to have differing opinions than you, please don't view them as personal attacks, please don't start any sort of major drama or get all offended here. In the end, we're all friends still.

5. Use common sense when posting in here, which simply means ask yourself if this is something really worth posting, are you intentionally being mean to someone, if your topic is ridiculously controversial (IE. Baby Eating), are you accidentally bashing Christianity on Easter Day, etc.

6. In your posts, please try to clarify whether you're speaking based on fact or personal experiences as it will lead to less misunderstandings. Please do not state opinions as if they were facts without proof to back it up.

7. NO DRUNK POSTING.

Failure to comply with any of these rules (additional rules may be added in the future as needed) will result in a warning or perhaps a banning from the 'Why So Serious?' sub-forum. The severity of the punishment works in tandem with the severity of your actions.

Anyone else getting tired with the constant media of Nazi'ism and the the horrible deeds that were conducted in the Second World War? I just notice that the further we go, the more constant (and bothersome) things have become with modern society.

In VideoGames: Any Medal of Honor or Call of Duty game (except 4 and World at War, think thats the japanese), Wolfenstein, etc
In Movies: Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas
In Books: Mein Kenph, Diary of Ann Frank

Im sure theres a lot more movies, books, games, and music that show how bad the Nazi's were in WW2 (and trust me, the things done were horrible) and prove Hitler has become the worlds biggest punching bag (and with plenty of good reason). Its just, isnt it a tad excessive?

Its nice to never forget and stuff, but if you or your country made a horrible mistake, would you constantly want that brought back and thrown in your face? (example to Americans: no matter how much better your country would potentially become, do you want people to forever remember it for Bush?)

In basic conclusion, I think that the history of the world war should, more or less, be kept in the history books, and never forgotten...but I dont really wish to be reminded of it by the media who is out to make a buck for shock.

mein kampf was a book from nazis tho...you can't really say its part of the modern era

also
if you ignore the past, the future is doomed to repeat itself, we need to keep the memory of the horrible things nazis did to keep it so it doesn't happen again.

thats nice and all, but I cant take that with a straight face. To be frank, somewhere in the world, there always seems to be a war going on. The degree of torture has changed, but nevertheless, people are still being killed. For example:

-War in Korea
-War in Vietnam
-War in the Persian Gulf
-War in Afghanistan
-War in Iraq

its not a matter of forgetting.

Its not the war part I was speaking of

It was the genocide I was speaking of
Whether or not we go to war, no one has gone to the depth of genocide that hitler did.

It's quite possible that the amount of media Nazi hate is to get it through to kids that the Nazis were and are generally bad. Think about it, you virtually shoot enough people with swastikas and you become someone to recognize that symbol as something to hate so when you actually see it in real life you turn away from it. I'm saying this is the case for over playing WWII in video games, but it's a possibility.

Edit: Although I will admit that the WWII Era has been played out and is pretty much boring. I want to play a WWI game.

No, because it's just videogames that are over saturated with the topic these days, and you're trying to generalize it so that it applies to everything.

TL;DR, you have no point.

You use it to sum up the crap you wrote so that less enthusiastic readers can get the gist faster and start flaming the shit out of you earlier.

World War II was a huge moment in history. If there wasn't a large amount of books, movies, games or even comics covering or set in it, I'd be more surprised then relieved if anything.

The Nazis are the epitome of "the bad guys" nowadays it's all "this dude is a terrorist" but I think the world can universally agree that the Nazis were the bad guys. I mean, take Captain America for instance.

Captain America, outside of a WWII setting, just doesn't work very well. I mean... he has no REAL enemy, what's he going to do? Punch Osama Bin Laden in the face? :-/ I just think Nazis and/or "crazy Nazi experiments" always make for a decent "these are the bad guys" antagonist for a lot of fictional stories.

Agreed, the Nazis are the more or less the closest we have gotten to a "truly evil enemy", because they pretty much embody everything we think about when we think "bad guy". The fact that they sought world domination is just the cherry of the sundae, making them the ideal villain in several forms of media.

I guess you could say that people have tried to do the same with terrorists during the past seven years, but it doesn't seem to quite be working out, generally because the word "terrorist" is far too vague, and depending on how you define it, the U.S. foreign policy could be classified as terrorism. Also terrorists are not one massive unit, unlike the Nazis they are made up of several small groups who don't necessarily even cooperate with one another.

Given these (and several more) points regarding what we see as an enemy and what not, it's quite easy to see why Nazi Germany is the ideal villain for war drama of any kind.

My problem is people associating all German's as Nazi's, when in reality most people have no idea what went on in Germany in WWII. If you were 18 years old, (with a few acceptions of course) you had to join the army or you were considered a traitor and exicuted. My grandfather lost 2 brothers in the war and was in the German Navy as a bumb dismantler. He was taken as a POW by the British army, and what happened when the war ended? He moved to England... just to show you how bad things were in Germany, he moved to the country that captured him. So many German's didn't even have a choice to fight in the army, many others were easily brainwashed by years of poverty (something many people forget the after WWI Germany got screwed in the treaty of Versailles). Don't get me wrong, I hate the Nazi's greatly, I hate Hitler more than people could ever know, but I freakin hate when people associate German's as Nazi's or everyone who faught in the German army in WWII as Nazi's when they don't realize that many people didn't have a choice.

I could speak about my grandmother's side of the family and what unspeakable things happened to them during WWII but I don't want to get into it. My German grandparents are the kindest people I've ever known and probably will ever know (anyone who's spent 5 minutes with them totally agrees. My Opa is my hero. All the shit he's seen/been through in his life, he just shrugs it off and looks at the bright side of life. I hope to have that mindset at 86 years of age.

Are you talking about the black slaves from the Carribean and Africa, or are you talking about the white slaves from England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy and surrounding countries that nobody talks about because everyone has forgot?

I think its important to talk about and discuss history regarding our horrible past because if we dont and only focus on certain aspects of it instead of all of it you have situations like above where everyone focuses on the black slaves that worked in the cotton fields in the south, but forget about the white slaves that worked in the coal mines and ship yards of the north east.
