Forum rules

Rules

1. All normal forum rules apply.

2. NO JOKES! This isn't the topic for funny pictures or wise ass remarks.

3. Serious topics need to be well thought out when written, they also need to have well thought out replies. Please try to write more than a single sentence. Back up your opinion with facts or something else.

4. Keep a cool and calm head, especially about things such as politics, gay rights, religion, etc. People are allowed to have differing opinions than you, please don't view them as personal attacks, please don't start any sort of major drama or get all offended here. In the end, we're all friends still.

5. Use common sense when posting in here, which simply means ask yourself if this is something really worth posting, are you intentionally being mean to someone, if your topic is ridiculously controversial (IE. Baby Eating), are you accidentally bashing Christianity on Easter Day, etc.

6. In your posts, please try to clarify whether you're speaking based on fact or personal experiences as it will lead to less misunderstandings. Please do not state opinions as if they were facts without proof to back it up.

7. NO DRUNK POSTING.

Failure to comply with any of these rules (additional rules may be added in the future as needed) will result in a warning or perhaps a banning from the 'Why So Serious?' sub-forum. The severity of the punishment works in tandem with the severity of your actions.

National health care. Plenty of people who don't have it don't pay taxes, have nice cars, iPods, computers, etc, but they just choose not to pay for health care. What this is going to amount to is LINES at the hospitals, and the wrong people are going to be there, abusing it, and getting in the way of the people who really need to get into the care of doctors, etc. Anyways, the money that we'd be paying the government for said health care would be more than if we just paid for it ourselves, and assholes who don't even abide by the rules are going to get all the benefits.

There are no "LINES" and "horrible people abusing the system" with universal healthcare man. In Canada we have a choice to ether pay for private, or if you have no money its free. Sure sometimes there is a wait, but if you are dieing you are admitted right away, and if its not that serious the time waiting is very small. As a Canadian I just cannot understand some Americans being so afraid of free healthcare. All my American family wants it, and the right to care should not be evaluated based on your pocket book. The whole idea behind it is taking care of one another, so I fail to see how its a bad thing.

I live in Alberta, which is a very conservitive province. Because of this we pay a nominal fee for our health care which works out to $150 every 3 months. My cousin took her kid to see and American doctor 3 times last month and it cost over $400 dollars, which is unfortunatly NOT covered by her insurance company, due to "contractual stipulations" <------ What the hell is that??

You can always tell the true measure of a country by how it takes care of itself, and from the outside it doesn't look like things are honky dory down there.

Honestly, I hope you guys vote for Obama, as your the one super power in the world, and the person running your country carries a ton of responsibility.

Well who's fucking paying for the national health care? Families like mine. Not the rich, not the poor, but the middle class, in taxes. We NEVER get a fucking break, and asshole Barrack Obama has labeled us as "rich" when what we really are is "financially stable", so he can tax us more. You either have to be rich, poor, or an idiot to be a Democrat. Also, just because national health care works for one country doesn't mean that it should be in every country, it's kind of like democracy: it just won't work everywhere. If you can't afford health care, it's your fault one way or another, and I hate seeing those who don't make an effort for anything get rewarded while hard workers like my family get continually punished for their mistakes, and the only reward for our work is more work so that we can get the things we want while paying for everybody else's fuck ups.

Just too many flaws in Obama's plans IMHO, I fail to see how anything done by him will benefit ME in any way, shape, or form. We aren't a doomed nation, not yet, but it seems like it almost solely because whenever the Republicans try to get anything done, we end up tripping over the Democrats because they go batshit whenever they don't get what they want; they're big fucking babies who haven't realized that they're not helping AT ALL with ANYTHING in our country.

I think you're being pretty selfish there. You shouldn't be worrying about what will benefit you, and think about what will benefit your nation as a whole. And I think you should watch what you say here, you can have your opinion, that's fine, but don't be an asshole about it... also use of CAPS for some words aren't nessessary AT ALL, they just make you look like you're shouting random words.

It's not just about Osama Bin Laden anymore.

He is just sort of the face of Al Queda. Now, obviously, it isn't about WMDs anymore, more so fighting the whole war on terror.

I haven't heard people say shit about WMDs in YEARS.

Bin Laden isn't a person anymore. He's just a generalization used to give a face to Al Queda as a whole.

SO OMFG! It isn't that difficult to understand.

Ahh.. "War on terror".. for me that sounds so cliché that I cant even take it seriously anymore. But while youre at it, dont collapse the whole worlds economy and save some oil for us europeans too!

Gold Xf,

You need to remember that only a very small number of people take advantage of the system. The rich, middle, and poor classes are all taxed accordingly. I make over $80,000 a year, and I am not complaining about what I am taxed. Its really not that bad. CNN, FOX etc, all have interviews saying "ZOMG our economy will crash, how can we do that? Funny the same new corporations had a poll on tv the other day saying that 80% of Americans are worried about money. What kind of crap is that?? I have not met a single person that wasn't worried about moeny. I fail to see how it would hurt the economy in the USA when it hasn't in any other country in the world. I think a person should have to right to some type of healthcare, money or not.

Don't get me wrong, I think that people that abuse the system should have harsh treatments if caught, but its better to give the benefit of the doubt when it comes to dealing with a humans health.

There's no excuse for them not to have already gotten themselves health care. People squander their money on luxuries before they get to necessities. If the individuals who don't have health care currently spent their money more responsibly and made smarter decisions, they wouldn't be in the dilemma they are in currently. I really don't feel like paying for somebody else's mistakes, quite honestly.

Then SURPRISE!! I actually did happen. AIG did this within days of the bail out being passed, of which they took $85 billion (or $45 billion...can't remember). They were going to do it again but more than a few tax payers were a little upset with this, so they've postponed.

And thanks to this idiotic bail out, the U.S. Government now owns Manchester United. My baby takes the morning train!

Someone said Nader>Obama>McCain. I would say it's more Obama/McCain>Nader. Nader's party wants to cut funding to ALL public education. No more Loans, Grants or government buying books. Granted the government does a poor job at buying books and generally funding education, but they still do it. Obama's education plan seems pretty solid, but McCain's is almost as laughable as Nader's. McCain actually thinks that the No Child Left Behind Act has had a positive effect on our country.

That is by far the most selfish thing I've heard in a very long time. Deny people the right to healthcare? That would never fly up here.

Yea that's pretty uncool. I struggle everyday to make ends meet, my job doesn't offer healthcare benefits and I just can't afford it. I should have health care since my job requires some risky undertaking but because it's expensive and I choose to eat rather than pay for health care I have no choice. Now tell me, do I not deserve health care?

I currently work at Starbucks BECAUSE of the healthcare. I'm going to be a teacher soon and I'll still work at Starbucks on top of teaching because of the health plan. Teachers, those in charge of the youth of America, get screwed on their health care plans. By being on my own plan, I'm saving my mother, who is a teacher, $200.00 a month by only paying $20.00 a month. By the way, my health care plan is better than my mother's.

If that's the case he's going to have a rude awakening when he's on his own... Also, if that's the case then he has no right to tell people they have no right to healthcare if he hasn't experienced living paycheque to paycheque... which even I do, and I live in Canada WITH free healthcare and make an ok salary.

I get so pissed off when people bitch about free healthcare for all. Okay, so if people can pay for healthcare, thats awesome. But there are so many in our country that cannot-some of you have posted that you cannot. I am fortunate to currently still be covered by my mother's insurance, but that ends in a year. What happens then? I'm currently at Starbucks, but won't be when I'm going to need the benefits.

It makes me so mad that we are supposed to be the best nation, take care of our own, blah fucking blah, and we don't have healthcare for everyone. I see people every fricking day who don't have insurance, and its pathetic. I'm not saying that Canada's system is perfect (nothing ever is), but it is sure as hell better than ours.

As for education....the No Child Left Behind Act was a joke from the beginning, and was never really useful. It also put added pressure on teachers who make shit for what they do every day. McCain just isn't realistic about stuff. Is Obama perfect? Of course not, nothing, and no one, is ever perfect. But he's better than McCain on so many levels, how can you NOT vote for Obama, or at the very least, how could you vote for McCain? (Besides the fact that his VP is a dipshit who thinks she's just so fucking adorable)

Been doing other stuff lately, sorry for a lack of response on my part. I honestly didn't expect you guys to get so worked up about my health care comments. The point that I was attempting (and apparently failed) to get across was that it disgusts me to see people getting the same, if not better lifestyles when they don't make the effort to do even a fraction of the work that people in my family do (extended beyond immediate). I play by the rules, and it's even more sad to see the people cheating through the rules having said rules made easier on them. But enough about health care, it's really not the most important thing in my head right now (plus, many of you guys aren't Americans anyways, so you don't see things the same way as one of us would, conservative or liberal).

One thing that I really want to talk about is Obama's take on illegal immigrants. He practically caters to these people that I consider for the most part (apologies if you fit into this category, I'm really not a very forgiving person when it comes to this) to be cheaters, and thieves. A lot of them come here pregnant, have their children born here so they (being the children) become citizens of the U.S., and they try and use that as an excuse for them NOT to be deported. Honestly, I couldn't care less if they had their children born here, they can join their parents wherever they're deported to. I think that ALL illegals should be ridden out of our country, they're taking America's jobs, America's money, and they're just parasites to us (all of this MY opinion on it, of course, don't flame me). One of the things that bugs me the most about them is that they come to one of the most expensive parts of the motherfucking country to live: that's right, America's ass (California).

These illegals don't pay taxes, they work here, and send money back to their home country, so it doesn't get spent here and doesn't help our economy. Some people say "Oh, they just want to come here to work, and they can't afford to become illegal immigrants. It should be okay because that's how America used to be." to which in response, I feel that their home countries need to figure out how to fix their own economies and shit, because it's like some homeless person coming into your house and saying "I like what you have better than me, therefore I have the right to live here for as long as I want, and bring all my friends in here as I please.". Illegal immigration has been going on since My own father could remember, and in that time I'm sure a country could've improved themselves significantly, but oh no, one of Mexico's main sources of income is the U.S., so we're not allowed to do anything about it. That's a load of horse shit, and I honestly feel cheated. Crap, these guys don't even bother to learn our OFFICIAL LANGUAGE, and Obama thinks that we should learn Spanish so they don't have to learn English. That makes my blood boil.</rant, don't take anything I've said personally>
