This may not be as universally cool as the first one: It's an animated short set to music composed by Sergei Prokofiev, who is my favorite composer. He has to be the true inspiration behind Danny Elfman's earlier movie scores and overall style -- including orchestration -- specifically, Batman, Batman Returns, and BeetleJuice; Prokofiev's music had a dark and whimsical sound. I'll post some links of a small fraction of music he composed that sounds like it could have been used in Batman. There are a ton of other examples that would be perfect, but I'm unable to attach any music files to this post. It's a shame he's mainly known to main stream audiences for doing 'Peter and the Wolf' because he did so much more than that.
The music is from the 2nd movement of his 2nd Piano Concerto.
Here's a link to music he composed that sounds like Batman (It might not at first, but at around 1:33 in the video, you'll see what I mean): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0veYI4SKGw
And this sounds like Batman Returns (specifically starting at around 1:30): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy84N_U5jw0 Edit: Because I don't own a PS3, I'm just now finding out that this music was used in the game "LittleBigPlanet" in the last level.
