Is there anyone here who actually likes the Friday the 13th Series? You know, the series that had the best slasher monster in history?

Friday the 13th III is my personal favorite. Everything in that movie is just insanely ridiculous. They used every opportune moment to incorporate 3D shots which don't translate at all to the video release.

My favorite death happens when Jason shoots a harpoon into some girls eye from close to 75 yards away. After he does it there is a pause as though he amazed himself with his accuracy then struts away with a cocky air about him.

Close second is the fake as hell head squeeze complete with projectile eyeball. Also, this one has one groovy soundtrack.

We must have watched that movie once a week in college.

hell yea, I love friday the 13th, my personal favorite is a tie between 3 and 6 - 3 was probaly the best "jason" and its the movie where he got his mask for the first time, and 6 ( jason lives ) had the best deaths out of all of them and was the first movie with "zombie jason" which is actualy what most people these days asociate jason with, its highly debated but mostly accepted that jason was just a human though the end of the 3rd movie and posibly still human in the 4th movie, the 5th was some fuckwad pretending to be jason and then jason actualy became a monster for sure from 6 on.

the main reason I love these movies is because they are the personification of american horror, cheesy movies , about a guy in a mask, running around killing teenagers who have sex, smoke dope, and get drunk, with over the top gory kills - everything a good american horror / slasher flick needs to be great.

the sequel / remake / reimagining scares me to death, its suposed to be a remake that combines the events of the first 4 movies and reimagines jason as more of just a nut in a mask ala the halloween remake, I really wish they would leave this one alone, jason is the face of american horror and if they pooch this one its going to sting.

and one final thought, if you enjoy friday the 13th movies, or just enjoy slasher movies at all and have not yet seen it, check out Behind the mask : The Rise of Leslie Vernon , its a "mockumentry" about a film crew following around a slasher who is much in the vien of jason or michael ( from halloween ) as he is getting ready to set up his killing spree, it is a great concept with some great twists and just an awesome movie, one of the 2 best slashers Ive seen since the original scream. ( the other one being hatchet )

have I ever mentioned I freaking love horror movies? :yuush:

I love the Friday the 13th movie series. I currently only own the 4th movie on VHS I happen to find it for only $4. As much as Jason pops up in my dreams to give me a good scare every now and then. He is by far my favorite horror film character of all time despite a few minor bad moments aka Jason X. As for my favorite movies I liked the 4th one where at the end he just gets chopped with a machete over and over again by Cory Feldman. Then Jason Lives was pretty good too had some gory kills in that one. I did like his latest appearance in Freddy vs Jason because he was still the same old hockey masked killer. Despite all the humor Freddy put in the movie.

With the new remake coming up in 2009. I'm crossing my fingers that they don't repeat the mistake that was Jason X. Oh and the best Jason actor has to be Kane Hodder. Here's a little info on the new remake http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758746/.

While the Friday the 13th series is awesome (even with 5's rediculous ending), I think Michael Myers is the better of the two.

I am excited about the upcoming remake. :yuush: :yuush:

I do like the movies, but I prefer Nightmare On Elm Street.
Also, Jason goes to hell is terrible.

I hate scary movies, they give me nightmares >D.

Except for Saw, those give me very nice dreams, about torturing people I hate.

I'm not quite sure, but fairly certain, that the box set of I-VIII that I purchased on DVD contains edited copies of the movies. I picked it up for like...thirty bones...or something like that. I watched VI first because that was my favorite, and it just seemed really...tame. I'm going to try downloading a copy (which I have no problems with morally as I own a copy of the movie anyways) to compare the two.

If anybody can confirm my fears, it would be nice. The box set is the one that has 3 movies per disc, and they are in slim cases. I bought it at Frys.

It's a decent series. I want to see a 'remake' of the series that is similar to how Jason is portrayed in Freddy vs. Jason, where he's this mindless Frankenstein/tragic villain sort of guy.

yea, its cut, I remember reading about this on IMDB and on amazon.com reviews, of course that still didnt stop me from buying it, but I am a horror nut and friday the 13th nut so I was going to end up with it anyway, heres a link to it on amazon where there are a few reviews that talk about how bad its cut - http://www.amazon.com/Friday-13th-Cryst ... 736&sr=8-1

Now see, I didn't like where they went with Jason after the 80's movies. I mean other people are impersonating him, he vacations in NYC, then he's in space and ends up fighting Freddy.

It seems like everybody is getting a reboot/remake these days. Sure there are a several 80's Jason flicks that we can watch, if we don't like the newer stuff. But, they just don't make em' like they used to.

I meant his revamped backstory and inner psyche that was shown through Freddy's Nightmares. Gives him some depth as a character than just a hockey mask wearing zombie.

Totally. I know what you mean. I actually find the remake of Halloween the most entertaining in the series.

If they can do it right is the question. I don't know if its too high of expectations or just plain out bad timing. But the ball has been dropped on too much good material lately.

see , I have a diferent point of view, I dont want alot of back story and expsotion in the remake, I want it to be very bare bones, a mongoloid kid ( sorry PC crowd, thats what he is ) drowns and is presumed dead, years later shows up ( posibly in a gunny sack posibly in a hockey mask ) and kills lots of people, thats all the back story I need, if they go in and add too much to it, it will start to feel like something else entirely - obviously some back story would be good, but dont over do it like they did with halloween....

I really wish they would have gotten tom savini to direct this movie, he directed the remake of NoTLD and it was almost as good as the original if not better in some aspects, and sicne he did all the make up for friday the 13th and did all the make up work for friday the 13th part 4 and the special effects so he really knows the character and helped to create it and I honestly think he would have done a great job with this movie.

I hate to speculate on what his back story could possibly be, but here is what I'd like to see. Young Jason Vorhees is a prodigy in his sparse desert town where he works at a local junk shop. His single mom works day and night at the local diner and has little to offer Jason's future, a burden that is tough for her to bear. When he's not at the junk shop, Jason uses his spare time to work on his dune buggy which he races against the scum of the desert. His victories provide a beacon of hope for his mother....until the accident.

Jason makes little progress after months of surgeries and rehabilitation. There is no hope for a normal life. The doctors suggest he have a change of scenery. A lush and green summer camp to provide a drastic contrast to his sandy surroundings. Perhaps the once brilliant Jason will be jarred enough to speak again in this environment.

Jason enters Camp Crystal Lake.

After a week the counselors stop trying to connect with Jason. Another week and the boy is a ghost. The counselors have a camp full of vibrant and energetic children. Can they really spend that much effort on a boy that just stares back at them? Staring into their souls?

Suddenly, a splash in the lake catches Jason's attention. He stumbles over to the lake to the very edge of the pier. His reflection, which he has not seen since the accident, startles him and he falls in. He sinks to the bottom... but there is a glow down there. It's not coming from the sun above, but from the crystal below. The crystal of Crystal Lake is not just a charming name. It exists. And Jason is dwarfed by it. Then she appears.

She is more beautiful than anything Jason has ever seen. More beautiful than the desert sunsets or his mother's smile. She does not cringe when she sees him, but smiles. She swims toward him using her fins to propel her. Jason has seen her type before. After all, Splash is his favorite movie. She kisses him with the gift of oxygen. This kiss is more than he could ever ask for before or after the accident. He has found heaven.

The mer-man appears from behind the crystal. In one swift motion he has water-tackled his bride, furious with her promiscuity with this mutant that has invaded their kingdom. In a rage the mer-man rips the fins off his bride and claws at her gills. The minnows begin to feast on her ravaged body. Without thinking or the time to do so, Jason clinches his fists and his hand finds a machete. Fish bait.

Jason grins as the effect of his first and last kiss fade away. His vision fades as he finds his aquatic slumber. At the cold bottom of Crystal Lake, the crystal glows, and a killer awakens.

Also, Jason builds talking robots in the desert.

Wrote this for fun without putting much thought into it, but I have a feeling the revisioning will contain some of these elements.

*Sigh* I thought something was funny about them. Damn that really pisses me off. Oh well, I guess something good did come of it. I have a buddy who has never seen any of the Jason movies. He wanted to watch one of them when we were kicking it the other week. I talked him out of it because I didn't want him to be exposed to it for the first time and have it been a butchered(pun intended) copy of the movie. Glad I went with the gut feeling.

Does this mean boobless kills or just less gore/violence.

I don't think I could take it if Friday the 13th didn't have the obligatory (*ahem* female) nude scenes before each kill.

Both. Yeah. It isn't even really worth keeping at this point. Once I started to think the one I was watching was edited, I skipped to all the kills in that movie and yep, they all seemed weak. Did that with all the movies in about half an hour, and that was the last time they were out of their case. That was like 5 years ago or something.
